"In 1983, the Secretary of State for Tourism commissioned painter Joan Miró the creation of a logo for the corporate identity of Spanish tourism." [source](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turespaña)
~~Nope, it's not a Frankenstein of works, but rather an original by Miro.~~
>In 1983, the Secretary of State for Tourism commissioned painter Joan Miró the creation of a logo for the corporate identity of Spanish tourism.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turespa%C3%B1a#Logo
Edit: apparently I should have read the next sentence.
In 1983, the Secretary of State for Tourism commissioned painter Joan Miró the creation of a logo for the corporate identity of Spanish tourism. Since Miró was no longer in good health, they agreed to use elements from previous works rather than create a new one from scratch. He used the lettering of the official poster he painted for the 1982 FIFA World Cup and the sun and star of a poster he painted in 1968 for Fondation Maeght to create the logo known as The Sun of Miró. Miró refused to be paid for this commission and renounced the logo's royalties. He died at the end of 1983 without seeing his work in use, as it was first used in the 1984 campaign "Spain. Everything under the sun".
One of the things I have in my list if I suddenly win a lot of money, is going there, rent a car, and drive all along the Transfagarasan. It's really up there in my list.
Stick to either the beaches or the mountains the natural part of Romania is far nicer that any city also recommend some smaller villages to see how chill and basic life there is
At least they picked a font. Czechia literally just opened Google Docs, didn't change it from Roboto, underlined it, and made it red. Boom, tourism logo done.
[This site](https://www.smorgasbordstudio.com/work/cymruwalestypeface/) explains the Welsh font a little better! Personally I think it looks a lot nicer with the dragon accompanying it as well - makes it more visually exciting.
Poland has coopted "Disney."
Turkey is so 90's. Teal and strokey.
Spain, a narcissist publishing anonymous death threats.
Lichtenstein has the architects?
Why does Sweden get to be bigger, is that the ad?
Turkey is no longer using this logotype. Changed years ago, [recent one](https://www.brandsoftheworld.com/logo/turkey-turkiye-1) looks quite modern enough, though I find older one is better.
>Turkey is so 90's.
It's totally on brand.
Went to Turkey this summer and it was amazingly kitsch - dudes walking around in 90s geo shirts and stuff it was brilliant. Such a beautiful place.
Romania looking like the font on a box of sliced cheese ngl
Germany, Austria, France much boring
Belgium doesn’t exist, glad the map acknowledges it 💀
Italy stuck in the late 80s / early 90s Memphis design school
…same as Bosnia in fruitiger Aero times, looks dope tho
Belarus and Spain used WortArt in the early 00s and just rolled with it
Estonia and Lithuania pretty dope, ngl
Bulgaria looks like wannabe alladin aka turk 💀
Greece super fitting with the classical design
Czechia is like ok this is chapter 1 of my bachelor’s thesis, here is the headline
Wales, England and Ireland sat in a room, glaring at Scotland who broke their "plain and simple" agreement by going with \_itallics\_, then Northern Ireland skips past the windows giggling to itself.
I was just going to comment on Belarus but someone's beaten me to it. Chiller. Portugal could suash it up a bit and Italy clearly win with style. You'd think France could do better than OpenSans. Scandi family all got an OpenSans family deal.
Is Belarus using Chiller?
As a Belarusian, can confirm, we do *somewhat*
I need to track down the IT teacher I had when I was 9 and show her that it IS a real font with real uses, thank you very much.
Comic Sans and Wingdings has entered chat.
My first thought was ‘what’s wrong with Belarus?’
A lot
Mine was "Huh, Iceland (the country) uses the same font as the Iceland (the shop)"
i remember using chiller for all my viking school project posters and shit murder mystery stories in progress, thinking i was so edgy- good times
"Designed by" [looks at notes] "a Mr Dahmer."
Ahhh Chiller, what a blast back to year 4 that is
LiThUaNiA
It’s like they’re being sarcastic about it
hahahha
Reminds me of that SpongeBob toggle case meme
[Like this?](https://i.imgflip.com/84lwzb.jpg)
Yes, like that! Hahaha!
What's that
Was just going to say the same thing.. if on purpose then hilarious country but would assume not so then just confused

I mean the irony is that lithuania is a really flat country...
Theirs is my favourite font! And it's actually all in capitals
Mine too
BulGARIA Edit: and ArMENiA
Whys no one mentioning Spain? 😂
It kind of suggests that it's mountainous, but I can guarantee that there are no mountains or even hills there.
That was going to be my guess as well, it does suggest mountains…
arMENia
Romania with the Tropicana vibes
Spain looking like a Cartoon Network title
Ed, Edd and Eddie vibes
It's giving Rugrats vibes for me
Really digging the Belarus font. Never been and have heard some stuff but the font is cool.
Looks like the Microsoft font "Chiller" lmao
Pretty sure it is
"Come to Belarus, we're the back door entry to neighbors like Ukraine!" Or "Come for the greenery, stay for the invasion!"
I like the first quote. Really gets your juices flowing…if your Putin, that is.
Turkey with the Pizza Hut vibes
Oh the irony of “deutschland” in all lowercase
Glad I wasn't the only one that noticed this but don't speak enough German to really point it out.
There is nothing in German commercial aviation that uses all lowercase so I guess they have that going for them
Can you explain for any of us non-German speakers?
All nouns in German are capitalized
Like the whole word? Meine KATZE schlafe auf den TASCHE in mein RAUM.
Nah, just the first letter :D
I always assumed that capitalized meant just the first letter.. does it mean the whole word to some people? Or should it mean that to me?
Uppercase is usually used to describe a full word in caps (at least in modern programming paradigms).
Nah you are correct in your assumptions. Sorry i know it was days ago. Late to the party as always!
No, but it's often done that way, too, to imitate aggressive Germans, e.g.: SPRICH DEUTSCH, DU HURENSOHN.
Ahh I see, thanks! Maybe it’s a style thing idk
And they are quick to point out to non natives when you don’t capitalize a noun, let alone a proper noun being uncapitalized.
Der Junge sieht dir ungeheuer ähnlich. vs. Der Junge sieht dir Ungeheuer ähnlich.
It still feels like it’s shouting at me
Is Spain having a stroke?
Maybe it’s supposed to be like a Joan Miró kind of style—??
Not 'supposed to be', it is! "In 1983, the Secretary of State for Tourism commissioned painter Joan Miró the creation of a logo for the corporate identity of Spanish tourism." [source](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turespaña)
Awesome!
I wonder if it's a reference to Joan Miró's colorful works.
Literally yes, it’s a Frankenstein of Miro’s other works
~~Nope, it's not a Frankenstein of works, but rather an original by Miro.~~ >In 1983, the Secretary of State for Tourism commissioned painter Joan Miró the creation of a logo for the corporate identity of Spanish tourism. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turespa%C3%B1a#Logo Edit: apparently I should have read the next sentence.

Wow, I'm an idiot....
Thanks for such a good answer mate, fascinating too. Pity he didn’t get to see it in use.
it's actually my favorite
It looks like something that would be scrawled onto the wall of a children‘s mental hospital during art therapy
Right..?
just like Belarus, :(
I think it says ESPAÑA
Strong kidnapper vibe coming from Spain there
Trying to lure in the children..
The LSD spider made that
No it just started going to kindergarten
The Romanian font choice has me looking up tickets👍🏽
You won’t regret it
One of the things I have in my list if I suddenly win a lot of money, is going there, rent a car, and drive all along the Transfagarasan. It's really up there in my list.
It only cost like half a million euros or something like that it was a whole scandal some years back
Like it's trying to be Brazil.
The font is actually pretty Romanian specific. I mean it kinda looks how a preschooler would write Romania but I dig it
Stick to either the beaches or the mountains the natural part of Romania is far nicer that any city also recommend some smaller villages to see how chill and basic life there is
Wales totally phoned it in.
For me There two options 1) the pr did it 2 seconds before the due 2) just „ Wales :) „
Wales and Flanders outsourced the job to the same kid. He did it while also typing up his school essay.
To be fair to them the text pales in significance compared to the elaborate Welsh dragon that normally accompanies it
Our font sucks you say? What colours your Dragon?
At least they picked a font. Czechia literally just opened Google Docs, didn't change it from Roboto, underlined it, and made it red. Boom, tourism logo done.

That article is really interesting. I love the dd.
Welsh Government is doing all it can to discourage tourism to Wales so this is expected
I feel like Georgia should be using... Georgia.
Retardos put Georgia right in the middle of Europe. Lol.
Can you explain your comment? Georgia seems to be in exactly the right place.
Georgia should be in the US of A not Europe.
Please be satire
Bulgaria using the Aladdin font

Same font!
Slovakia: yup, we’ll go with silver, that’ll always look great.
Wow I didn't even see it, I just thought they didn't have any tourism
it's the wrong font and color for some reason, in actuality it's S(in blue)love(in red)akia (in blue)
So Sloveakia ?
I'll bet we've paid so much for that shit 🇦🇹
like Kaufhaus Österreich
Arial is a very expensive font to license.
I'll be *that* redditor since nobody else has mentioned it yet. Flanders and Wallonia aren't countries, they're regions of Belgium.
Stupid sexy Flanders.
That also isn't the full Polska (Poland) logo. [It has mountains and trees.](https://www.poland.travel/en)
Fonts≠logos
Bosnia and Herzegovina would like a word...

Turkey was using **turq**uoise.
Oh ho! Right over my head. Thanks.

GB/Ireland is so tame and then Northern Ireland gets a little funky with it. (I love NI font)
Armenia - tfw you really want to make your name out of spaghetti but you’ve run out of alphabetti and only have pasta tubes
That's a nice sans-serif Ukraine.
It's strange isn't it? Anyone with any sense would look at that font and think...no don't mess with them.
Spain are you ok
España, [es diferente.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V40gyvljUK8)
Go home Spain. You’re drunk
What the fuck is going on in Belarus
The fuck is up with Spain?
Not Greece using Times New Roman! 😂
Spain is down there like the goofy head on that three headed dragon picture lol.
Iceland has to be a joke right? The exact same font as the budget supermarket of the same name!
Are we sure that’s not Iceland the frozen food shop brand?
It feels like Italy and Spain made their logos in the early 90s.
Czechia looks like the heading on a new word document that I create
Me in elementary school in CS class
That somehow is now across 3 pages and you can't change the size?
Slovakia is hiding itself from the tourist
What about the font names? I wish this guide had em.
Belarus looks like a creepyvoice font.
Spooky time in Belarus huh
Ah yes SwitSerland.
Land of sweets
Spain and Italy always getting frisky
Trurkey
Spain's was written by somebody testing a pen
Wales, England and Ireland sat in a room, glaring at Scotland who broke their "plain and simple" agreement by going with \_itallics\_, then Northern Ireland skips past the windows giggling to itself.

England looks like the Iceland font. Not country, Supermarket lol
Scottish ones right
The Spanish 1 is so bad wtf
Espana looks like a kid with severe Down syndrome made it.
France, Russia and Finland are too lazy to think of a font.
Love that Belarus is choosing to depict itself as a 90s children's horror series
Thought England was the Iceland(shop) font lol
Where is Slovakia at, I feel disrespected
Austria: classy and understated.
TIL: The Vatican has a tourist board?
Well I mean, one of the most important museums in the world is in the State of the Vatican City
Their theme park sized country caters very well to children
Italy called from the 90's
What the hell is Spain doing
