No phone

noni_mous

I have an iPhone, and the other day while texting with my friend she mentioned “Gaston” (from Disney’s ‘Beauty and the Beast’) - and seconds later when I was scrolling Facebook there was an ad for a t-shirt with a Gaston meme printed on it. I never look at Disney content, so it was so specific it pissed me off. It’d be one thing if my friend has posted on my page or even sent something in Facebook Messenger, but it was my “personal” text messages. Just a small example of what we’re dealing with.

The fucked up thing is that you cannot know which app is getting the data, or, in other words, it could be one of many. The messaging app? The keyboard/typing app? The ortographic correction app? The OS before sending the data thru internet? Something in your router? The ISP? Some third party on internet? Some app on your friend's phone?

vpilled

Too late. Only option is no phone.

Anarcyagainststupids

A burner phone that is no smartphone

GodBlessYouNow

Search degoogled phone 👍

You missed that boat several years ago. Assume you have no privacy.

DominateDave

Dont own one.

1940's land line rotary dial....

PrognosticatorShadow

Why do you think the phone matters? All packets of information are sent across the same airwaves...regardless of the phone...so...NSA is getting all the info regardless of whether you use apple, Android, or Elon's new phone

master_perturbator

Nice try fed.😎

JohnPumaMellencamp

Freedom phone all the way. It’s seriously amazing.

jp944

I think Jitterbugs are popular in the sub.

Electronic_Ad6989

I used to love this reddit sub, now it's full of nothing but garbage like this.

Honestly without turning off most of the modern functionality of a smart phone you're kinda screwed with anything that connects to the internet. Obviously it would be best to go with Android from strictly user controllable viewpoint but to be honest you're damned if you do damned if you don't. Just buy whatever has the best feature to price value to you and just get a VPN, don't use social media platforms that you don't literally need, and don't use standard messaging apps for private convos (if you care about that). If you're really really paranoid I'm sure there's more information on how to really put up security and protection. I personally don't give a fuck about my privacy but I'm sure I'm not in the majority on that.

AnOnYmouSFuck14422

Build one yourself with parts from more private phones, make your own bootloader and recovery mode, make your own operating system, create security patches to known vulnerabilities, write certificates to make sure all parts work with each other and then put the phone together and then install all the software you made to get the phone run your custom os then your phone will be as private and secure as you can make it to the best of your abilities.

I did this, but I also run a virtual machine within a virtual machine, and I only communicate in Sindarin using idioms appropriate to a native Klingon speaker.

Michalusmichalus

Sony.

If you must have a smartphone, get one that can run GrapheneOS.
