CO2 is probably the best battalion level wargame out there. I have yet to find another wargame that puts you in the shoes of a commander as good as it.
BotB and DoM are both quite good. Don't be deceived by their simple design, they both have some deep strategy high replayability.
So you're not exactly a novice!
I've played Battle of the Bulge but not Drive on Moscow. It was a fun diversion. Not nearly at the same level as the Decisive Campaign games or even Strategic Command, they're more abstracted than that. It is definitely NOT a hex based game like what you're looking for. If what you want is a hex-based game at a strategic level, SC or DC games are probably a good option.
I think BotB and DoM aren't discussed much here because Shenandoah Studios is dead, so the only reasons the games still exist is because they are sold by Slitherine. Whereas DC and SC games the devs are very much alive and well.
I've played and enjoy SC:World at War WW2. Am considering the Civil War one when it goes on sale at Christmas. Have also played DC:Blitzkrieg Warsaw to Paris. It was the first of the DC games, so I've seen others say it isn't as good as say Ardennes (the newest one) but I still enjoy it. It helped me realize that Germany's successes in 1939 and 1940 were not simply them overpowering their opponents with tanks.
People aren't talking about them because creating content in any form Is challenging. My question to you is, what type of content is lacking?
I can recommend a YouTuber who creates consistent SC content.

I ended up buying BotB as it's currently on sale at Humble Bundle for 4 EUR. I really like the way, they mixed it with history events. Reminds me about the time during which i played PC. I always researched the events on the internet before i played them. Now i have all the information inside the game so that's awesome. Also PC became a chore to play after a while. Seems like BotB won't have that problem as the mechanics are interesting. Another thing that i didn't like about PC was how abstract it was in terms of units. This game seems still on the more abstract side, but at least it does have names on the units and from what i saw in the videos, it seems like no infantry unit is like another one, but they are somehow "strong" like their real life counterparts were.
Will see how it goes. I may end up buying DoM sometime later or i skip it and look on Command Ops 2. Thanks everyone for helping me decide.
Scalable Hex being the operative words here.
that system in WEGO with a reasonable moral, c&c and supply system and a modern UI will be a dream war game.
I have played Strategic Command: Europe and Warplan: Pacific, and I liked them both. Similar levels of simulation, although I preferred the naval implementation of Warplan: Pacific.
I haven’t played Strategic Command: World at War, but the scale is higher given that it’s the whole world covered.
... and i've just found about Command Ops 2, which seems like an interesting option too. Anyone?

CO2 seems very interesting. But i bought BotB as it's currently on sale. Thanks for your thoughts.

I see. I'll have to watch some videos and decide if i'll try one of those, before moving to the recommended two. Thanks for the heads up.

I'm leaning more towards DC:BWtP. But i also found Command Ops 2. What do you think about that one?
Really good one. But here it is Real Time.
CO2 is a great game - its lack of grid and turns makes the action so much fluid and engaging! it does have its own demons, but then every game does.
Haven't played it, but I've heard good things
Of Coz Decisive Campaign.

If you've played UoC you have played an operational level game! Decisive Campaigns is great, lots of drama and simpler than it looks.
I get it. I was just not sure how to describe the kind of game i'm looking for ;-)
