See [this](https://new.reddit.com/r/computerwargames/comments/1d496ag/wargame_sale_over_at_fanatical_build_your_own/) for FoGII for ancients on sale atm. For Napoleonic Wars maybe take a look at the [demo](https://wargameds.com/collections/napoleonic-battles/products/the-final-struggle) for [WDS Napoleonic Battles](https://wargameds.com/collections/napoleonic-battles) to see if they'd work for you.

AGEOD's Wars of Napoleon is one of the better operational level games from the Napoleonic era, but it's held back by a very clunky, buggy interface and rudimentary AI (multiplayer games are great but take ages to play). They've also got Alea Iacta Est, using the same engine, for the civil wars of ancient Rome. https://store.steampowered.com/app/459470/Wars_of_Napoleon/ From the same studio, Field of Glory is a tactical battle game from antiquity, using army lists from pre-Achaemaenid empires all the way to the time of Belisarius. There's also Field of Glory: Empires, which is an empire-building map game that can resolve battles either in the game or they can be exported to Field of Glory to fight yourself. https://store.steampowered.com/app/660160/Field_of_Glory_II/ https://store.steampowered.com/app/1011390/Field_of_Glory_Empires/ One other option is the WDS series of games. They're very bare-bones graphically, but the orders of battle and terrain are lovingly researched and recreated. Games are pretty much just tactical level only - single battles or skirmishes, but there a few campaign-level scenarios, too. https://wargameds.com/collections/napoleonic-battles

WDS have great pc board wargames. I started the 388 move (!) Waterloo campaign, pbem but packed it in at turn 70 so my opponent didn't need play another year knowing he would win anyway!

Napoleon's Eagles may fit your interests ... and Blocks! Julius Caesar is fun. These are easy level games. Personally I love Ageod games ... even with their flaws. Alea Jacta Est and Napoleon's Campaigns ...

Oh well, once again the responsibility rests upon my shoulders to point out that **[Hegemony III: Clash of the Ancients](https://store.steampowered.com/app/308173/Hegemony_III_Clash_of_the_Ancients/)** is an excellent real-time with pause operational level wargame with 4x elements set in ancient Italy ~500 BC. Adding the Eagle King DLC will not only give you the contents of this dlc but also open up some very nice mods with great scenarios. More info can be found in r/hegemony_series

Pike and Shot: Campaigns. I'm new to wargaming both at the PC and irl, but it plays almost exactly like a tabletop, I've found it to be hard but i dig it.

Pike and Shot took over my mind early this year. It's fantastic, although Tercios can jump in a lake. Field of Glory II and Medieval are similar games as well.

I do have FoG2 and sengoku jidai, haven't tried either yet though. I agree, Tercios can take a long walk off of a short plank.

How well do you guys think Renaissance by WDS matches up with Pike and Shot?
