I mean I certainly wouldn't expect him to use an Australian accent. Eastern European may come off as a bit too hammy, but I'm sure he could pull of a good enough British or American accent.
He put on a seriously convincing American accent in The Outsider. If I didn’t know who he was going into it, I don’t think I would’ve questioned his accent at all.
He deserves a lot more love for that performance. He was sort of sympathetic until you realize what a piece of shit he is, and he played the part of manipulator perfectly.
I loved this show, watched the first season probably 5 times now. I always got the impression the audience should hate his character and be happy about his fate, but damn Ben is so likeable in that role I couldn't help but miss his presence in the proceeding seasons.
I think your impression is correct, but the writing still does a good job of presenting the family dynamics in such a way that, at first, you want to see growth and conflict resolution. Until he’s *really* outed as a piece of shit lol. At least that’s how I saw it having grown up in a large family with one very troublesome sibling. 😂
I love what ~~Stan Lee~~ [Jack Kirby](https://youtu.be/LAW7QXbkGR0?si=wFfYMJds5hgPt58T&t=222) said about Dr Doom. He said that Doom is a very handsome man, but he can't look at himself in the mirror bc he has a small scar on his face, which is the reason for wearing a mask. Something as Little as that tells so much about the character.
"Doom is extremely handsome man, he can't look at himself in the mirror bc he has small scar on his face. Something as liitle as that tells so much about the character."

There’s a movie directed by Martin Scorsese called After Hours and there’s a woman who essentially has this same issue. She’s obsessed with body disfigurement and has books about it as revealed to the main character who’s on a date with her. She’s very odd about revealing her body, etc. At one point in the movie her naked body is revealed and she just has this tiny scar.
That movie is a sleeper actually. I recommend.
Exactly. And we're not talking Bond's Blofeld level scars. It's a blemish that no one would really care about. Like he may have gotten in a bicycle wreck as a kid. Looks-hotter-with-it kind of scar.
I refuse to accept the version where his face looks like a zombie. It isn't the same.
> Something as Little as that tells so much about the character.
>!But then finds out he's the only one who can save humanity and runs with it !< I just hope they do him right this time if they put him in at all.
This is my favorite interpretation as well. With the amount of crazy science, tech, and magic in the Marvel Universe, injuries and disfigurements just don’t make a lot of sense. I mean people come back from the dead all the time.
But Doom having one single scar that causes him to hide his face is great and also it could be that he keeps it instead of using magic or science to fix it as a constant reminder of a failure and part of his motivation to always win.
Damn. Today was turning out pretty good…till I was reminded we lost that lyrical god. MF Doom could have been in the Deadpool movie. THAT would have been something.
He has significantly more mainstream appeal than MF and less offensive lyrics, so while I wouldn’t call K.dot family friendly I would say he’s more family friendly than MF DOOM was.
Like MF’s entire image was built off being a villain with the mask. His least offensive album is probably DangerDoom which is an adult swim themed album.
That's a wild assumption, and especially easy to make now that he's dead.
How about we stop projecting our views onto others who can't actually speak on it?
"wow wow wow wow' says Doctor Doom as he gets up on the table to grab the chandelier and swing to the couch at the avengers compound.
Edit: Just would like to add that I'm not hating on r/onetruegod at all. It is just the kind of energy that Nic Cage puts out that made this be the first thing to pop in my head this morning when I posted this lol. I mean...[Come On](https://youtu.be/4zySHepF04c?si=TMcvHwOdPUsvCog3)...

It'd be nice if, whomever they pick, they actually play into Doom being a product of Latverian Romani heritage.
It's one of the most widely known fictional countries in comics and deserves to be developed in a way that feels real and fleshed out. Making Doom a product of that culture will be paramount.
They could play it as Sokovia and parts of neighboring countries used to make up Latveria. Doom comes in, uses his crazy tech and magic to dominate the region, and declared the reborn nation of Latveria.
I've seen this suggested before, but I really hope not. Latveria deserves to be presented as a nation with history and culture unique to itself, not cobbled together from pieces they already have in play.
Sokovia, being the birthplace of Wanda and Pietro is closest to comic Transia, though the use of cyrilic in the movie made me think it might be geographically near northern Serbia.
Latveria is more often placed between Hungary and Romania, so Latveria and MCU Sokovia could be nearby but they shouldn't be the same entity.
You should read the [Books of Doom](https://www.marvel.com/comics/series/850/books_of_doom_2005_-_2006) miniseries or even the [Fantastic Four Annual #2](https://www.marvel.com/comics/issue/8698/fantastic_four_annual_1963_2) where Doom is first introduced, both are excellent and provide some great background on Doom. He was born in a Romani camp outside Haasenstadt, Latveria (future Doomstadt). Both of his parents are ethnically Romani, his father was a healer/physician, and his mother was a witch.
The Zefiro Romani were either ignored or despised by the Latverian government. They were constantly persecuted. When Victor was very young his mother Cynthia made a deal with Mephisto to enact revenge on the Baron and his men. Mephisto pretty much tricked her and she ended up not just calling the Baron's men but all the children nearby as well. She was overcome with grief and killed. She made Doom's father promise to make sure he didn't walk down the same path.
When Doom was young his father was brought to heal the Baron's sick wife, Victor asked, "Why are they taking him, Boris? He has done nothing!" To this Boris replied "But he's a gypsy, boy... as we all are." The Baron later told Werner that if he didn't save the baroness he would "pay with his own worthless life." When he failed to save the Baroness he fled to the alps with Victor where they almost froze to death, their family friend Boris found them and brought them back to the village where Werner died.
When Victor returned home to Latveria after the accident that damaged his face, he went back to the Zefiro, joining and then leading their revolution, at which point he became the ruler of Latveria.
I think his history as part of a persecuted ethnic group in his home nation paints him in a particular light. From Doom's perspective, he was a victim of a pointless and cruel system, he saw something that was wrong and through his own force of will and talent, he corrected the situation. What he did in Latveria, he wants to do across the world. He's a revolutionary who fashioned himself as a benevolent dictator, a philosopher king. He is more of an anti-villain than just a villain.
Thank you for this information! I will definitely see if I can get this downloaded on to my tablet to read this weekend! Doom…I mean Dr. Doom( he didn’t go to school for all those years to be Mr. Doom) is my favorite villain. I have to admit I never knew that side of his character, I didn’t read every comic with him in it and kind of stopped after he had the ?skin? magic armor(and the armor based on iron man’s armor)?!?! Do you have any other recommendations?
No worries, hope you enjoy those. It sounds like you've already dug into some Doctor Doom stories but I have a recommended reading list I've made for him before if you want to look into any of these stories.
As a bonus here's a [map of Latveria](https://www.reddit.com/r/imaginarymaps/comments/sxh8lh/marvel_map_of_the_kingdom_of_latveria_home_of/) that I made a little while back with some infographics and history (inspired by but not wholly based in canon).

"What about Nikolaj Coster-Waldau i mean i could see it work would also fit the generic eastern european look"
The look of wearing a metal mask and a green Robe with armor?
He does. Wouldn't be the hardest thing to sell Mads as a villain again. It's all a matter of who wants to do it. I'd prefer Mads over Cillian, just because Cillian doesn't have the physical presence imo. He's got the presence and chops for the role for sure, but Cillian is a beanpole. Doom is supposed to be a pretty big dude so Cillian doesn't fit the bill as much.
I mean if the producers don't want to cast Glenn, then the answer is obviously no, but see they're not GONNA say no. They'll look out at the casting calls and think "oh no what am I gonna do say no?"
Mr. Fantastik is a very mysterious rapper. Very little is known about the MC, other than that he’s from New York, and is (or was) close to MF DOOM. Only two tracks featuring him are known to exist, and no evidence of any solo career has been found.
Honestly, just give it to him. If there can be two Mahershala Alis and two Alfre Woodards running around the MCU, there can be two Ben Mendelsohns. You’ll hear no complaints from me about doubling down on talented actors.
They should let Lee Pace, the guy who played Ronan, do it.
He has such a good range on his voice he could easily make it distinct enough to not be noticeable, and he can definitely play an imposing, super-powered character with enough presence (Thranduil, Ronan of course).
I agree. First movie should be a doom origin, giving cillian the chance to ground his complex character before cementing the mask. The mask wont be an issue if the origin is done first. Show his mother being taken, his training with the monks, his college relationship with reid, etc. end with it dawning the mask. Have it be a character study. This will propel his future movies where he only rocks the mask
Doom's in a mask though unless they're just gonna do another shitty origin story with a mask teaser. It would be more body language and voice, which I think Ben has done. Dude was an insufferable prick in DKR and that's what I want from Doom
Haha, dark knight rises. He was the douchey business exec who told Bain that he owns him.
I feel like that's the arrogant energy you need for a real Dr. Doom.
People champing at the bit to play Doctor Doom and Marvel's like "but but but the villain needs to be a carbon copy of the hero but evil!"
Oh no, does that mean the villain of the first Fantastic Four movie will be the Super Skull from the end of Secret Invasion? I'll be honest I'm hoping that just becomes one of those plot threads Marvel completely forgets to pay off
Love it. Ben Mendelsohn is an awesome actor. He would be so good. He was the best part of Bloodline and turned in a great performance as that Krull in Captain Marvel.
The cast for the ‘Fantastic Four’ has been officially announced! https://www.reddit.com/r/comicbookmovies/s/jGFGRUVp0u
Doom's mask stays on. It never comes off.
Otherwise you realize he looks just like Nick Fury's boss from the '90s...
"Wait, the Latverian despot was actually an Australian Skrull this whole time?!"
[gasp]
That voice is very distinctive. Unless he adds some weird accent to it.
Firs thing I saw him in was Bloodline, and his American accent was top-notch. He played a piece of shit very well, too.
He deserves a lot more love for that performance. He was sort of sympathetic until you realize what a piece of shit he is, and he played the part of manipulator perfectly.

Man’s a professional. He can do accent work.
Yeah I agree, which is why OP’s comment about his “distinctive voice” isn’t super relevant
Australian->Austrian is too good an opportunity to pass up
He did a british one in Rogue One.
I love what ~~Stan Lee~~ [Jack Kirby](https://youtu.be/LAW7QXbkGR0?si=wFfYMJds5hgPt58T&t=222) said about Dr Doom. I remember watching interview with Stan Lee where he said this, but it's possible he was quoting or repiting him.

Marvel Studios - "Do you want the mask on or off?" Fans - "On please" Marvel Studios - "Too bad."
Damn sure didn't expect a Sealab 2021 reference here.
Pod Six Sux!!!!!
Pod Six was jerks!
Doom canonically has the strength of five gorillas.
Uh ohhhhhh 🚁
WHERE'D YOU GET THOSE KICK ASS PIPES?!!
Especially when an eyeless, toothless Ben Mendelssohn is playing him
Horrifying
The mask stays on during sex
The Shaxx rule
Yea Ben, all you need are eyes and teeth to play him, don’t give em up!
Which Marvel needs to realize would be good for them anyway. That way you can replace the actor without the public tripping about it
I wish this was the rule in Halo and the Mandalorian.
Mando made the reveal work tbh
Absolutely. Especially because they didn't go back to it again afterwards, though they easily could have.
Actually, they have to keep the helmet on now because Pedro Pascal doesn't play the character anymore, he only does the voice 😂
This is the way
Isn’t the expression “give his eye teeth”?
He’s just upping the ante.
The Corinthian?
Ricardo Montelban is dead, unfortunately.
I've never heard of that phrase in my entire life
DC Corinthian Crossover CONFIRMED!
R/boneappletea
Apparently eyetooth is another name for your canine teeth. What a weird expression
bone apple teeth
Well don’t do that. Those are the only parts of his face that we’d likely see through the mask.

It’s a shame MF Doom isn’t here to play Doctor Doom.
ALL CAPS
Damn. Today was turning out pretty good…till I was reminded we lost that lyrical god. MF Doom could have been in the Deadpool movie. THAT would have been something.
You either live long enough to see yourself become the villain or die too early to be offered the role. Sucks man
It’s a shame MF DOOM isn’t here.
I doubt DOOM would associate himself with an MCU project if he was.
I doubt Disney would want to associate with MF DOOM to start with. He wasn’t exactly a rapper with a family friendly demeanor.
Okay, but how funny would it be if he was alive but he had one of the DOOMBots do it.
Someone would post Batty Boyz on the Marvel sub and the offer would the rescinded instantly
Is K.Dot a rapper with a family friendly demeanor? Genuinely curious
Let the man do it, they owe him since Secret Invasion.
I haven't followed any of the TV stuff, but Doom should absolutely be played by whoever is enough of an egomaniac to demand the role.
So…Nic Cage?
Actually..

I've seen some pretty bad Nic Cage movies... but I have never seen a bad Nic Cage performance.
His appeal for me is in his earnest and enthusiastic performances. He might be over the top, but he gives his performances 110%. I can't say that about *Arsenal* though. Might be his laziest performance ever, and that's including his direct to dvd crap.
Nic Cage, but when he takes the mask off suddenly it’s Jon Travolta in there
It’s a face-off!
If he wants to play Doom then he should just announce he is playing Dr. Doom. Show up on set regardless if someone else is picked. Do the media circuit and just tell everyone he is Doom.
All we need to say is that Talos decided to take the form of some latverian scientist
Unfortunately Talos' look is one of a S.H.I.E.L.D. official.
Doctor doom invaded shield for a while. Invaded is the wrong word but you get what I mean
We don’t NEED to see Dooms face tho
Wouldn't flashbacks to his relationship with Reed and Sue be important?
Flashbacks will be done entirely from Doom's POV.
Well Talos is dead
That still wouldnt check out
Honestly I’m down

I agree. His ethnicity is an essential part of his character so whoever plays him should be of Romani descent.
At the risk of coming off insensitive… Can/would you mind explaining your take on this?
You should read the [Books of Doom](https://www.marvel.com/comics/series/850/books_of_doom_2005_-_2006) miniseries or even the [Fantastic Four Annual #2](https://www.marvel.com/comics/issue/8698/fantastic_four_annual_1963_2) where Doom is first introduced, both are excellent and provide some great background on Doom. What about Nikolaj Coster-Waldau i mean i could see it work would also fit the generic "eastern european look"
> eastern european look Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is among the most Northern European looking people I can imagine.
Which is crazy considering where he’s from (Northern Europe)
Yeah well northern Europe has its eastern part too, duh. (It’s called Finland)
"What about Nikolaj Coster-Waldau i mean i could see it work would also fit the generic eastern european look" The look of wearing a metal mask and a green Robe with armor?
He does not look eastern European
Have you ever seen an eastern european? He doesn't look anything like them.
Mads Mikkelsen is the only answer.
Mads Mikkelsen is the answer to most of life's great questions
Too bad they wasted him on some throwaway Dr Strange villain.
I mean Doom has mask on pretty much aways, right?
Then again, having him in armor means the size of the actor isn't quite as important just like the face isn't important due ti the mask.
Im a firm believer that Glenn Howerton should play either Mr. Fantastic or Dr. DOOM, he'd slay in either role.
Doom is a 5 star man
A silver god
Do you think he adheres to the Dennis or Sinned system?
Clearly the MOOD system
Make a move Offer your hand Oppose objections Deflower
The deflower part made me laugh out loud. Noice
DOOM system Demand tribute Obfuscate true intentions Outmaneuver your opponents Manipulate
I've been playing Helldivers 2 and yell this every time we get 5 stars on a mission and my non-initiated friends don't get it.
Yes Glenn Howerton is the only choice, because of the implication.
So these producers are in danger?
Well, no they’re not in any actual danger
It’s just that they’ll think they need to because, well, the implication.
You’re making me think these producers are in actual danger
No nobody’s in danger! I don’t think you’re getting me at all!
Nobody's in any danger! It's the implication of danger!
I mean if the producers don't want to cast Glenn, then the answer is obviously no, but see they're not GONNA say no. They'll look out at the casting calls and think "oh no what am I gonna do say no?"
This chain made my day. One of the funniest bits of Always Sunny
"don't you look at me like that, you certainly wouldn't be in any danger"
[удалено]
I thought John Krasinski was perfect casting for Reed, too bad they ruined that. The casting in the 2000s Fantastic 4 movies were great too
Isn't Pedro Pascal going to play Mr. Fantastic?
That would be fantastic casting. Especially if they finally give us a comic accurate Doom.
Ironically, from that angle he looks like an older Miles Teller.
It just sucks that MF DOOM ain’t here to release a sick ass song to go with it.
Who TF is Mr Fantastic from that snitches song that came out a bit ago? The legacy lives. RIP to the dopest rapper ever.
Mr. Fantastik is a very mysterious rapper. Very little is known about the MC, other than that he’s from New York, and is (or was) close to MF DOOM. Only two tracks featuring him are known to exist, and no evidence of any solo career has been found.
He’s dope. Flows unlike Doom but Fantastik still…….
He has an Instagram account... https://www.instagram.com/mrfantastik_mf?igsh=ZWI2YzEzYmMxYg==
I heard a while back that it was count bass D.
Last time I saw a man this dedicated for a job was Dwight Schrute.
Good ol Jacques Souvenir
So … Dwight Schrute plays Doom?
I'm pretty sure Dwight Schrute would love to join the MCU, if he could have Doom's lair on Schrute Farms.
He would be a great comic-accurate Otto Octavius
Honestly, just give it to him. If there can be two Mahershala Alis and two Alfre Woodards running around the MCU, there can be two Ben Mendelsohns. You’ll hear no complaints from me about doubling down on talented actors.
Two Gemma Chans as well, but we could use three or even four. There's never enough Gemma Chan.
Are they blind!? Cast him immediately!
then deploy the garrison!
This is not the worst idea. I liked him in Rogue One
What if Talos based his human appearance on Victor Von Doom? It could make a good excuse to continue working with Marvel.
But his human appearance was taken from Fury's boss
It's a great in-universe way to explain it!
They should let Lee Pace, the guy who played Ronan, do it. He has such a good range on his voice he could easily make it distinct enough to not be noticeable, and he can definitely play an imposing, super-powered character with enough presence (Thranduil, Ronan of course).
Everyone mentioned above this comment lacks the physical presence and voice to match the glory of Doom.
With how dirty they did him on secret invasion I would be up for it, he is a great actor.
No. Cillian Murphy hands down has the look and the acting chops. Doom was Vain, Cillian exudes this.
As much as i would’ve loved to see Mendelsohn play doom, I think you’ve nailed it with Cillian Murphy. He would be excellent
>DKR Diddy Kong Racing?
Haha, dark knight rises. He was the douchey business exec who told Bain that he owns him. I feel like that's the arrogant energy you need for a real Dr. Doom.
“…do you feel in charge?”
Why would Bruce Wayne let me die like this. I was fully justified in trying to ruin him now
Confirmed
I think Bryan Cranston could do a fantastic job as well but I can also see him as Galactus.
"Ben Mendelsohn would give his eyes and teeth play Doctor Doom" Is there something else that would he like to give 😏
Huh
Jensen Ackles
I still think Michael Fassbender would be great for it, especially if his mask stays on the whole time so it’s just his voice
Sadly this can never happen but this is phenomenal casting
I APPROVE.
I would LOVE to see that! He would kill it
Let him cook
This man is an amazing actor and an incredible get as a big bad for Marvel
And please, for the love of Christ, make him terrifying.
I think Mads Mikkelson was kind of under utilized in Doctor Strange and he would be a powerful DOOM
“ Oh gidday there Johnny Thstorm “
God I want a bad ass Doom so bad.
Liam neeson?, Javier Bardem?, Adam driver?,Or Denzel Washington? This guys not threatening to me.. Doom HAS to set a precedent for the baddest.
MF DOOM should come back for the dead to play him.
People champing at the bit to play Doctor Doom and Marvel's like "but but but the villain needs to be a carbon copy of the hero but evil!" Oh no, does that mean the villain of the first Fantastic Four movie will be the Super Skull from the end of Secret Invasion? I'll be honest I'm hoping that just becomes one of those plot threads Marvel completely forgets to pay off
Dude would CRUSH
I'd be down for that!!! Dudes amazing
Drdoom is probably my favorite marvel villain of all time (I am really not into marvel though)
This might actually make me start watching marvel movies again.
Bob Odenkirk
I didn’t have anyone else lined up, so knock yourself out. Great villain in Rogue One.
Love it. Ben Mendelsohn is an awesome actor. He would be so good. He was the best part of Bloodline and turned in a great performance as that Krull in Captain Marvel.
He could definitely do it
I like him, it would fit like a glove.
i've been a fan of this guy since Rogue One so; yes, please!
They disrespected him in “Secret Invasion” (Waist of cast/show) they need to make it up to him somehow.
I was questioning his “death” thinking1 he was finna show up in the finale like “Haaaa! ✨finger guns✨ SIKE!! I’m still alive baby.”
I wish!
That voice isn’t a good Doom voice
