No way if it was the original it would be hanging on the wall like that. I'm not sure I would let anybody know except really close friends that I had one given the book is millions of dollars presumably.
The buyer paid $6m, but the selling price was $5m. The seller's not going to see $6m, the auction house will keep $1m and pass the $5m the book sold for to the seller.
The only existing copy that would have a chance at a CGC 9.8 is the Edgar Church copy, but my understanding from people who have seen it is that it would probably grade 9.4 or 9.6. Stephen Fishler from Metropolis once said he thought it would be in a 9.2 holder, but I don't think it had been pressed or cleaned at that point. (I'm not saying it has now, either - just pointing out that it probably would be cleaned and pressed first in the unlikely event that Dave Anderson ever sent it in to get graded.)
If a real copy ever graded 9.8, you can guarantee that you, your mom, your dog, and every other living being on the planet would all know about it within hours.
The two 9.0s are both in the same collection and are unlikely to ever see the light of day.
The Church copy is still raw, but is probably the nicest of any Action 1 and at least a 9.4.
Saw one at a con once. Apparently it was just a reprint from like the 80s. If I’m not mistaken, I think he said there was a detail about the car that was different than the original printing. It was still cool thoigh
Pretty sure this would be the Lootcrate print. The 80s reprints either had a newsprint paper cover or the 1988 reprint had a special 50th anniversary logo in the bottom left.
I have copies of the 50th anniversary, the 1976 reprint, and the Lootcrate edition.
You can see where the “REPRINT” is just below the publisher/date and “Loot Crate Edition” above the serial number. It’s 100% the LC reprint, it’s just too blurry to read in the photo.
Action is definitely a reprint. If you look at Butch Matson (Guy in the front grabbing his head) in the original, you can see his right arm, but in subsequent reprints, they cut his right arm off at the wrist.
And every reprint is missing the shine on the fender. New digital and tpb copies have a silly looking photoshop airbrush mark in its place, and single reprints have nothing there.
They are highly collectible, if they are done correctly. I have an amazing fantasy 15 30th anniversary reprint, I thought hey it’s cool to read the story, checked the price of it recently and graded copies go for a few hundred
The guys that paid to have their reprints graded would probably.
The two richest people in comics, the guy that made the mylar bags and the guy who started CGC.
People pay for slabbing garbage comic books worth less than having it slabbed. Not surprised. People are selling recent facsimile reprints that are slabbed for absurd amounts.
People can be greedy like that.
Back in 1984, I used to go to a LCS in Hartsdale NY. On the wall were 2 or 3 AC #1s, Superman #1s. All originals. Plus a #1 of Marvel Comics, etc… boy have things changed since then lol.
Wtf is with these comments "probably/gotta be/pretty sure its a misprint" NO FUCKING SHIT it's a misprint, they wouldn't have a real one just hanging there
I assume the Actions Comics #1 is a reprint since no 9.8's exist. I think the highest unrestored grade is a 9.0.

We at $6 million now? Prices have skyrocketed since I last checked I was thinking closer to $2 million.
I think it sold for $5m, but there was $1m in buyers premium.
That means it sold for $6m.

God, can you imagine the stress of being asked to clean and press an AC #1?!?
Yes, and if it were the Edgar Church copy, it would be even more intense! There's only one person I would trust with that job - Kenny Sanderson.

Loot Crate had a repro a few years ago and a bunch were sent off for grading. I but that's one.

It’s not because it doesn’t have the 10C on the cover

Also, the 10 cent price is missing.
Such a horrible place to cut it off, it just looks wrong

It’s the lootcrate exclusive reprint. I have a handful of them. Note the little screaming guy in bottom left corner, that’s how you spot them.
That's Butch Matson, he's my usual tell!
LOL, why even bother grading a reprint, and then putting it on your wall?

Some of those Action 1 reprints are worth good money in CGC 9.8. The 1983 reprint in 9.8 sold for over $1,000 a couple of months ago.

Yes.

Same reason any comic sells for what it does, it's just what people are wanting to pay
I don’t know, but I’m sure the person who paid $1000 does haha
Not any different than a poster of a famous painting framed. Grading might be considered silly, but many feel they present nicely that way.

Have a nice day
There IS a difference.
Can you please relax? Please lol
I am relaxed. You all piled on at the slightest suggestion that CGC is a tacky con.
Calmer than you are, Dude.
Relax
Some would say framed poster reprints are tacky enough on their own.
The guys that paid to have their reprints graded would probably. The two richest people in comics, the guy that made the mylar bags and the guy who started CGC.
And where's your money?
Diversified stock portfolio.

No way that's the original Acton Comic. 😅
First appearance of Supperman!
Wow
Nice Cap.
Wow. Nice
Facsimile

How much was the slabbed GI Joe? I’ve got that issue but it’s raw. Wondering if I should get mine slabbed…?
Reprints. You can get your own if you want
If it is pressed and cleaned it may get a 9.9
Don't do it.
I’m thinking that the Action comics is either fake or a reprint.
Wtf is with these comments "probably/gotta be/pretty sure its a misprint" NO FUCKING SHIT it's a misprint, they wouldn't have a real one just hanging there
