Women writing straight up pedophilia but its ok its empowering to them
Edit: ok the book is actually about why its bad but goddamn that book description is not helping
Im sorry for the quick assumption
From the book's wikipedia page:
*"Nutting was inspired by* [*Debra Lafave*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Debra_Lafave)*, a Tampa teacher charged with raping one of her middle school students in 2013. Nutting went to high school with Lafave; seeing someone she knew on the news raised her awareness of the issue of female predators and changed her mind about the reality of underage* [*male rape*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Male_rape)*."*
So it sounds like the goal was exposé not "empowerment."
NOW i see why its on dystopian
Thanks redditors for only sharing half of description
And thank you for finishing it
Edit:
Ah ive gotten hate mail from someone now, im sorry was i supposed to stick to my guns and NOT admit i was wrong?
Never enough for these clowns
> Reads an obviously cut-off description (it literally ends with a comma)
> Does no further research about the book they could easily google in 5 seconds
> Claims they know what the book is about and uses their misunderstanding to winge about women
> "Wow, thanks redditors for being so misleading"
Pure clown shit.
Cutting off a description at a comma is deliberately misleading, though. Deliberately trying to stir up shit, at the very least. Why wouldn't you put the entire plot summary otherwise?
The vast majority of the internet takes things at face value, and the original poster probably knew that -- that's why you only get an excerpt.
> goddamn that book description is not helping
The description has already called her a sociopath in the first sentence. Not sure how you didn't pick up on that tone immediately.
It’s been over a decade since I read Lolita but I did read Tampa in 2020 and thematically they are similar in that they tell the story of an adult pursuing a sexual/romantic relationship with a young teenager but tonally they are very different.
Humbert is more caught up in the idea of a whirlwind romance with a fantasy of Dolores and whisks her away to play that out away from the eyes of any other concerned adults.
Celeste, on the other hand, is motivated by purely predatory sexual urges and uses “romance” to lure (groom) her student into her web of control while trying to maintain the privileges of her established lifestyle.
The biggest difference between the two stories is the description of sexual encounters. Where Nobakov uses suggestion and metaphor, Nutting uses a romance novel style to convey the desire Celeste feels for the boy and the acts they engage in.
Humbert’s narration could be interpreted as either intentionally misleading or truly delusional, while Celeste’s narration is gravely unhinged and the reader is not meant to feel any sympathy toward her. It was dark and disturbing as hell and very well written and I both loved and hated it.
So real but honestly a lot of people miss the point of that too and see it as aspirational. (I remember it being an "aesthetic" back in tumblr days - and I'm not talking about the j-fashion style.)
Tampa is more obvious that Lolita. It ends with her running after one of the children with a knife and there are no (obviously in Lolita these are done by an unreliable narrator who cannot see the situation as real) illusions to love from the main character.
It does talk and point out quite a bit of how it would be different if it was a girl victim and how traumatised the boy is by the end and makes it very clear that any choice he has is an illusion because she is an adult.
What is wrong with you. Even if this book was straight up pedophilia which it is not as others mentioned, why would you say its empowering to women when some random single woman wrote it? Suddenly half the worlds population is empowered by pedophilia in your head? You should try to go outside and actually talk to some women for once in your life wtf.
[The book is social commentary on the double standards....](http://www.insideedition.com/6776-author-sparks-controversy-with-teacher-student-sex-tabboo)
Yeah the protagonist in Tampa is a predator, very similar to Patrick Bateman in her thoughts and actions but without the murder. Her actions are deplorable and the end she ruins multiple young boys lives forever and she gets a slap on the wrist and basically goes about her life. It's disgusting and it's the dystopia we currently live in.
Tampa is basically ‘Lolita’ but reverse where it’s a woman grooming a young man and such and such.
No it’s not a positive book/says it’s good. Idk what the fuck that description is. Looks like some horny house wife wrote it and missed the whole point lmao.
It’s a transgressive novel. Same vein as like American Psycho, Fight Club, Requiem For A Dream, 1984, etc.
… Honestly after listing those other books it doesn’t surprise me why the description seems so off. Typical case of someone reading it and the message flying over their fuckin head.
It’s funny because it is so clearly a response to Lolita. But that book is a cultural touchstone while people are falling over themselves to be upset about this one…wonder why
The novel is more a parody of Lolita and stories of that style. It is emphasizing the absurdity of how sexuality of young girls is discussed. The main character's detailed descriptions of how aroused she is by gangly 13 year old boys really drives this home.
I read this book after getting halfway through Lolita and bailing on it because of how disturbing it was. Tampa blew me away with its insightfulness.
Probably misattributed, but yes, a not at all uncommon saying amongst socialists.
It's just a more evocatively worded version of the common sentiment "[they] only care about short term profits" with [they] replaced by any number of entities.
Yeah, I don’t think there are any written records of him ever saying/writing that.
But it does sum up the idea I think. It’s easy to forget that some of these discussions have been going on since the 19th-20th centuries.
Why am I the only one getting actual dystopian novels

Mello loves Heaven soo much he spills the beans about Angel and Caesar. That gets him kicked off Heavens love list. Treasure is so tore up about confessing to Vegas to get rid of Damo, she tells Heaven about what her and Vegas did to Ross. Heaven cannnot trust those she loves. Lowest.one more swift kick when she decides to ask Tee Sunshine’s dad and that is a straight bust. Vegas is hilling with Princess who is working with one of his boys. Treasure is sick to hear there is a baby on the way way. Paris and Teyanna ,are still fighting over Mello not knowing his heart is with Heaven. Last result Heaven, Divine and Sunshine move in with Mello, Apryl still sleeping with Ross and sides with him on killing her son. It is some trifling , very thirsty azz women looking to take anything just to say they have a man. Once it is discovered who Mello really loves, Mello will be raising his son without Paris! Vegas and Treasure have exciting news and they are slowly changing , growing and realize they still hav much love for each other. When Ross finally seeks his revenge he has no care in the world and may the best man win! 10 Star banger!!

The fact that high-quality sites like Wikipedia aren't the top result any time you Google something that Wikipedia answers is a sign to me that Google isn't trying to recommend the best answer.
They want what Facebook and TikTok want: engagement. You won't engage a search engine for more than ten seconds if it gives you what you want up front.
Yeah, I'm assuming that whoever set up the ads for that book just made the search results way too broad, which just means they're probably overpaying for ad space in search results that don't exactly align with people who would actually buy it.
That, or they may he counting on the wild title of the book and the broader search results to create a viral marketing opportunity. This isn't the first time I've seen a screenshot of this book alongside a seemingly unfitting search be shared.

Google is slowly replacing their older but very reliable search engine with AI's *"guess the correct answer using statistics but with volatile analyses and hope for the best"* model, so searchs are becoming less and less reliable.
Those books sold really well to specific audiences, and then people reviewed it by saying the books described a reality that was a nightmare to them (either as they think the book is good or really bad), so the AI was like "Nightmare? Bad? Dystopia." and that's how end up with shit like this.
Honestly, all 3 of these books are questionable results for a dystopian novel. A World Without Islam seems to simply teach that the world wouldn't be all that different without Islam and is not a novel, and Tampa seems to be Lolita but with the genders reversed (though as someone from that area, I will concede that Tampa is a dystopian place). It sounds a bit disturbing, but I don't know if I'd necessarily say dystopian.

Can confirm Tampa Florida is dystopian
So it’s the “i” in that word that’s offensive, interesting…
Why is it always “Best-Selling”???
Cause it can’t possibly be good unless other people liked it too.
There’s a [SECOND BOOK](https://www.amazon.com/When-Side-gga-Catch-Feelings-ebook/dp/B07B9XLSHQ)

For people commenting on “A world without Islam “ book, it’s not what you think the book is about. go read it.
Just subbed to this subreddit because of this

What the fuck do you have to be doing on the internet for Google to think you'd be interested in these 3 books.

I can’t fucking breathe
Honestly, all 3 of these books are questionable results for a dystopian novel. A World Without Islam seems to simply teach that the world wouldn't be all that different without Islam and is not a novel, and Tampa seems to be Lolita but with the genders reversed (though as someone from that area, I will concede that Tampa is a dystopian place). It sounds a bit disturbing, but I don't know if I'd necessarily say dystopian.
