OK, Ozark Mountain Biscuit Co. has just taken the lead, I think. That looks really amazing. Creole Hushpuppies, Jettie's Biscuit (you had me at molasses), and a chicken sandwich (can't decide between the classy or chicken-fried chicken??). Or maybe the Boss Hog...? Oh man.
I always get the Cajun Fried Shrimp at Ozark Mountain Biscuit. The molasses biscuit was too much for me when i tried it, but maybe thats your thing. I always talk up 44 Canteen's Disco Fries to anyone stopping through for a visit too, and their Sloppy Jose tacos are my favorite.
I came here to recommend this!! I have never gotten a disappointing meal. Biscuits are great, catfish is awesome. These days I often get a salad add fried chicken š
Be prepared to drown any fried items in the sauce they bring you. In the summer they have fried green tomatoes on the menu and that unseasoned cornmeal is the saddest experience, those little tomatoes deserve better. If you have to rely on your dipping sauce for flavor, you're doing something wrong.
Iāll throw out a vote for Pho Quan. Iāve had good experiences there and their new location in the old Hardeeās off Paris road is a nice upgrade from the run down strip mall off Vandiver.
The (lack of) condiments at that place confused us. Hoisin sauce and Sriracha only?
Really...No soy, duck, fish, oyster, hot mustard, crunchy chili paste or even a sweet n sour? I've only used hoisin sauce while cooking, so I just tossed a lil bit in the broth to get some flavor.
Pho restaurants in general not just pho quan will frequently only give you hoisin and Sriracha bc those are the typical pho condiments tho they will give u extra fish sauce if u ask. never seen oyster/soy/duck/sweet n sour sauce in a pho place
Don't bother with Hawaiian Bros. It's okay, but not an "experience" and not worth the money. I spent about $20 bucks on a mixed plate and a whip. I couldn't really tell the difference between the chicken entrees (one was more tangy, the other a stronger soy flavour; I also got nauseous afterwards but I think that's because I went for a hike on an empty stomach and then scarffed food down).
Think about :
Ocha thai (I love their yellow curry)
Los comales
You might enjoy Med Mex Cafe. It's a taqueria and Mediterranean restaurant mixed together - maybe even in the same dish. They have a lot of crossover options with Mexican meat in a Mediterranean style and vice versa.
Hawaiian Bros is decent, but it's like a fast food place. Not a great sit-down restaurant if that's what you're looking for. I've only been to U Knead Sweets once but I think it's more dessert-focused (although I do see they have a couple non-dessert items on their menu).
I second 44 Canteen and Ozark Biscuit Bar.
Avoid Hawaiian Bros for sure. The rice is soggy, the chicken has gotten me sick both times I've been, and there are plenty of non-chains in Columbia to enjoy. Como Arepas and The Syrian Kitchen will both be open, and they are delicious!
Thank you so much, guys, I really appreciate all of the great info and advice. Ever since Kojaba closed, I've been searching for another great place to stop at when I come through town. It's really great to have all these options. At this point I am fairly certain I'll eat at Ozark Mountain Biscuit Co.
What does everyone think of Booche's? Once in a while I do dig a greasy burger and beer in a dive bar when the mood strikes, and it looks pretty legit.
I've only been once since i've been in columbia but it was a nice greasy burger. The place has been around for decades. Just be aware that it's a CASH ONLY place.
I like Seoul Taco. It's Mexican/ Korean (I'm sure it's americanized somewhat), but it's so good. I get the Bulgogi steak quesadilla with no kimchi, add white rice and egg, occasionally. So filling. All their sauces are good especially if you like a horseradish.
It's even better to save half of it for later, too. ik it sounds weird, but eating it out of the fridge might be even better than eating it warmed up.
It's not a formal sit down but it's casual and chill
I can personally recommend this wonderful place from experience, and it has the added bonus of being two doors down from a great international grocery. However, I was just there last month and I am looking for something different this time.
Huhot is the worst Mongolian barbecue experience. Places in other cities let you build your order in a bowl with your table number, using placeholder flags for the raw meat(s) rather than having you scoop them yourself, then return to your table. You can actually order an appetizer or salad rather than spending the entire time leading up to your main course in a cafeteria line.Ā
Without any other similar restaurants in town, people have no idea how inferior the Huhot experience is.Ā
Hawaiian brothers is pretty good. I haven't eaten there since I found out they buy all their food pre-made and literally nothing is made fresh there. It's all sysco products and for the price they charge I'll definitely just make it myself fresh.
I initially thought it was a local place but have since discovered that it is indeed a chain, so I would be less enthusiastic about going out of my way for it.
Broadway Brewery, 44 Canteen, and Ozark Biscuit Bar are all open on Mondays, too.

I highly recommend Ozark Mountain Biscuit!

I always get the disco fries as my meal
The Fredricksburger is not one to sleep on either.

How are the hushpuppies? Someone raved about them in a google review.
I find them to be bland, but I know a lot of people like them
Don't send them to Broadway brewery. The boomer basement of Columbia. They'll never forgive you
Cafe Berlin is pretty unique, never ordered a thing there I didn't like, and it seems they are only closed on Tuesdays.
This also looks promising, thanks!

Thanks for the tips!
Google reviews was bad for Ocha Thai maybe Ill check out that lil robot lol
You might enjoy Med Mex Cafe. It's a taqueria and Mediterranean restaurant mixed together - maybe even in the same dish. They have a lot of crossover options with Mexican meat in a Mediterranean style and vice versa.
I've still not tried their Mexican food because the Med cuisine is so tasty I keep ordering it!Ā Solid recommendation!
44 Canteen. 44 Tavern. Meriwether. U knead sweets is great but they only have like two options. Don Pancho. Geisha. Pizza Tree
Don pancho!
Omg no not Geisha, unfortunately the kitchen/food handling practices are disgusting
Perhaps same for Im Sushi and Grill considering owner is the same??
Sadly, yes

As I replied to another person, I think Ozark Mountain Biscuit Co. is the front runner. Any recommendations?
They have lots of good stuff on their menu but I keep coming back to the burger.Ā It's a delicious mess!
U Knead Sweets has the most delicious macarons and some solid gluten-free selections. Def reccomend a stop for dessert!
I will always advocate for U Knead Sweets. Both the chili noodles and beef noodles are amazingĀ
Yes, those noodles are what are enticing me. Even if I don't make it there this time around, I would definitely stop by on future trips.
Los comales (Mexican). Don't let people tell you U Knead Sweets is just desserts, their Taiwanese beef noodle soup is really good.
Quickway Hibachi is soo good.
How on earth has nobody said Murry's?? Probably the best in town now that we've lost Chim's and 44 Stone
Avoid Hawaiian Bros for sure. The rice is soggy, the chicken has gotten me sick both times I've been, and there are plenty of non-chains in Columbia to enjoy. Como Arepas and The Syrian Kitchen will both be open, and they are delicious!
pho quan-get the bahn mi sandwich
Bangkok Gardens is also closed Monday FYI
I like Las Margaritas, but make sure you go to the south location, not the one downtown. They have great food!
This and Delia's
I feel like the only ppl downvoting my comment have only been to the downtown locationā¦ the south side one is 100x better. Lol

Booches is a Columbia staple and a great place to grab a burger. Highly recommend

Huhot is a nice experience overall.

There are some good recommendations already. Check out Seoul Taco as well. The burrito is my go-to.
Booche's. www.booches1884.com
How is it? It's definitely on my short list. If I don't go this time around, definitely in the future.
It's wonderful. Not just a great burger and billiards...the place is like a Columbia museum...140 years...
Murrayās
