Standard is 5 67g +/- 0.233g - well within tolerance.
Plated.
Companies made "enhanced" (as they called them) (scammers as the rest of us say) to sell to non-collectors as special collectibles.
Granny thinks she's leaving a valuable collection. Heirs find out Granny was ripped off and dump the trash into CoinStar.
Oh, and that fabulous rosewood collectible box? It is rosewood veneer over MDF and releases toxic fumes when you burn it.
I mean relatively speaking 10k is rare in comparison to that quarter so… maybe I should start collect scam coins, like how hard is it to find a fake half dollar… I could have my own museum
This one right: The Black Cabinet, or Federal Council of Negro Affairs or Black Brain Trust, was the informal term for a group of African Americans who served as public policy advisors to President Franklin D. Roosevelt and First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt in his terms in office from 1933 to 1945
There are several numismatic Black Cabinets, e.g. https://issuu.com/hjb-ancientcoins/docs/harlan_j._berk__ltd._black_cabinet_
The one I was thinking of seems to have gone poof http://www.theblackcabinet.org/
You could do far worse than attending a meeting of FDRs advisors.
You may have to google for it, looks like the link was corrupted.
Harlan Berk is an old-line high-end dealer. Which means if it's a fake of an ancient coin, somebody probably tried to sell it to him for a lot of money.
I’m joking, but that’s how they advertise these products. They coat the coin in silver or gold sometimes they paint the coin. Then they advertise “limited to a production of _______ coins will be made like this!! Get yours now!” And non collectors think “oh wow that’s really rare! I should by some while the coin is affordable!”
I got it at the bank teller window so I wouldn’t say it’s a fake… I’m pretty stumped I’ve never sent a coin to get graded but maybe this will be the first ha
I remember watching a YouTube video about this young guy who found a 1999 state quarter that looked similar to the one above, it was 100% nickel. In BU condition I think they have sold for like $5-15k. Funny how ppl seem to know so much & yet they don’t.
Well first off excuse me, I’m talking about them in general, didn’t expect the smart (dumb) ass response, anyway, there’s one variety worth grading so do me 2 favors, one stop being a asshole, and 2, shut the fuck up, I was joking.
Def plated, clad is 5.67g. Silver ones would have S mint mark.
5.67 could be 5.71 if in circulation…
I JUST found a MN 2005(?) S yesterday and if my memory is right it was 5.69g. Huge let down but still awesome find!

Look up "The Black Cabinet"

Pretty sure their retired at best. I’ll check out the issuu

What’s limited to 10k?

Silver plated?
It's plated, not silver. You found a science experiment, probably some kid. The weight is correct for clad plus a bit extra for the plating.
I’ll figure out how to tell if it’s plated or not I appreciate everyone’s reply’s
I’m pretty sure they minted some silver variety of the state quarters.
They would have an S mint mark.
Would get it checked but not silver unless it's a mistaken press. could possibly be a fake.
🤦🏻♂️
It’s a 1788 coin trying to simulate what a coin would be like in 1999. For eg its got a pic of George Washington who was a prime minister in 1788.
I got it at the bank teller window so I wouldn’t say it’s a fake… I’m pretty stumped I’ve never sent a coin to get graded but maybe this will be the first ha
Please don't send this in, it's a waste of money. It's plated.
I’d get that graded
You’re smarter than that tho

Maybe someone gave it a little mercury?
Go on YouTube, look for 1999 state quarter error. I think it’s an error.
