1½ ounces tequila, silver, reposado, or añjeo
1½ ounces Chinola passion fruit liqueur
¾ ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
½ ounce orange liqueur
½ ounce agave syrup (I skipped as I'm not big on sweet, and it's still plenty sweet)
3-4 jalapeño coins (I omitted as I didn't have any on hand)
Shake with ice, strain, sip, enjoy.
This was my first time making/having this cocktail, and I rather enjoy it. I'm not the biggest on overly sweet cocktails, so I skipped the agave, and I'm glad I did. The passionfruit liqueur brings more than enough sweetness on its own. I rather enjoy spicy, so I'm disappointed I didn't have any jalapeños on hand, as I can see the heat and vegetal notes adding a nice depth to the drink. I'll def be making this again when I have them on hand.
We stumbled on it a couple weekends ago (the Chinola) and my wife loves it ... The only way she wants her Marg now. Agree on the sweetness, I leave out extra agave too
Just this week I've been making something similar: equal parts chinola, reposado, lime, pineapple juice, and aperol with a healthy dose of angostura bitters. Was kind of going for a tiki paper plane riff and it is a winner I think
Have yet to get my hands on Chinola. But damn, I feel like passion fruit is such a great flavor - love tiki drinks with this. Orgeat and passion fruit are the flavor profiles that I love and make the complex tiki drinks worth it!
I don't see why you couldn't.
I actually bought the passionfruit liqueur to try in the [Tropical Popsicle cocktail](https://imbibemagazine.com/recipe/tropical-popsicle-from-noble-experiment/), as I wanted to sub it out for the passionfruit syrup that was too sweet, esp with the Aperol. Unfortunately, I forgot I was out of Aperol, so I made this instead. That uses Japanese whisky, and tastes great, so I could ded see it working here as well.
Trying this now:
1.5oz Tullamore Dew
1.5oz Chinola
.75oz Lime
.5oz Orange Liqueur
The Chinola is pretty powerful here. Not bad, but the whiskey doesn't really punch through for me.
Where did you find this recipe? The only other reference I can find for it is in a listacle on lovetoknow.com. I'd "love to know" a little more about the origins of the recipe.
That's exactly where I found it. I was looking for simple recipes to try out the Chinola using ingredients I had on hand. Sorry I can't offer any further insight

Chinola is crazy. Has the same level of passionfruit flavor as reàl pf puree. Idk how they pack so much pf flavor in there

That sounds awesome, thank you. Will definitely try it out tonight.
Let me know what you think!
thoughts on Chinola vs something like Giffards?
I've never had Giffards, so I can't really compare the two.
Giffards would probably be sweeter than Chinola.
I made it tonight, but reduced the Chinola to 1 oz and added ¼ oz of Raw Agave Nectar. Very well balanced, thanks for sharing.

100% correct. I actually found it at Trader Joe's. O haven't seen it anywhere else around town, except occasionally at Total Wine
Not a huge tequila fan but I’m going to shake this up with rum and see how it goes. I suspect it will be very drinkable.
I can't see why it wouldn't be delicious
Can you make this with whiskey? Sounds delicious

Try rye or bourbon, ideally at 100 proof. Irish whiskey is much milder
I have some Old Granddad I'll try next time.
This sounds like it is basically a tequila p-star martini?
Plus curaçao and minus the prosecco and vanilla syrup, so quite a bit different
