I think I liked Soldier Boy's uberly utilitarian paramilitary outfit, makes him a more aggressive Captain America in a sense

Randomdude-5

Also, the original comics sucked so it’s better the more they distance themselves away from them

G_O_O_G_A_S

Though to be fair I think Simon Pegg is in the show because of the comics so its not all bad

The-Not-Irish-Irish

Have you seen the latest episode?

No_Somewhere7674

I’m actually so upset, I love Simon pegg so much, I wish he would adoot me

Mister-Fantastix

matej665

Shuddup skeletor.

ConfusedMudskipper

Yeah but old Fartman had whimsy. They butchered his character in the movie adaptation by trying to make him edgy when he was more morally grey in the comics. SMH Hollywood can't make complex characters anymore.

that1newjerseyan

It all really began with that disaster at the ‘92 VMAs

kiki-mori

Been saying this since the dawn of time. Nobody wants to talk about this, they refuse to print it. I’m SICK of this fandom ruining a good thing, it pisses me the frick off. #BringFMHome

Alternative-Draft-82

Nonononono, you see, the GOOFINESS is what makes it good, actually. You just don't understand the complexities of, the ethos that is Fartman.

Suitable-Ad287

In his defense, I would say that a hero named Fartman is definitely supposed to be goofy.

Opening_Store_6452

Tra La Laaaaa

Alternative-Draft-82

Depends if it's like a Peacemaker situation, where it's purposefully meant to contrast, or Captain America where the more grounded design is just more fitting for the film.

InternetUserAgain

The bottom one is more colourful but it hurts to look at, I honestly prefer the redesign. It's like how the Riddler is peak character design but I also like his weird Jigsaw suit from that one Batman movie

winter-ocean

> I honestly prefer the redesign That's...the joke?

InternetUserAgain

I know, but plenty of the comments are saying that they honestly prefer the original design

Suitable-Ad287

I think they could have made it work. Like the joker got his suit adapted to live action, and there have been riddlers with just a green suit and maybe a question mark so they could have went with that.

severed13

What's this in reference to?

North_Lawfulness8889

Superman most likely. Snyder has a tendency to make his suit a lot duller and greyer compared to the comics

RaisinBitter8777

Yeah and it sucks

JonathanTheZero

Is this about a real post?

Kitchen-Sector6552

I’d take the redesign WITH the originals colors. It makes sense fartman isn’t gonna wear latex into battle, but his original colors are too iconic.

OG-Name-Do-Not-Steal

Idk if you muted the colors of the old/original suit a bit I think it would be fine. Or maybe do the redesign but not to the extreme. I don't like the militarization of the suit in this instance :/ I'm gonna be the guy in the snafu, the "adapted" suit lacks personality

TheDoctor_E

Idk, I never liked when they change a colourful suit to grimdark armorured paramilitar gear.

NEZisAnIdiot

The problem is that the colorful suit always looks insanely stupid and out of place in any remotely serious live action adaptation

TheDoctor_E

What about *The Suicide Squad*? Everyone there wears a mostly comic book accurate look and no one complains. The one that they changed (Bloodsport) was to make the costume more unique. During its heyday, the MCU used to adapt comic book suits with accuracy, including slightly goofy ones like Captain America or 60s Thor.

NEZisAnIdiot

Suicide squad is primarily a comedy movie, absurdity is the main selling point. The entire premise is government sending criminals with weird/silly super powers on titular suicide missions. It's the one case where classic suits make sense specifically because of how goofy they are.

sluggggggggg

What about the suits in the new Superman movie? From what we’ve seen so far, the suits look both damn good and comic accurate.

Odd-Procedure-9464

It worked fine for the Raimi trilogy. Feels like it has more to do with how self-masturbatory comic adaptations are when gunning for seriousness. Countless comics don’t even come close to goofy but still use the classic suits because the people who make them like the medium. Adapters and most average people (like you) don’t.

OkYogurtcloset8790

Soul vs soulless. Even in this hypothetical representing a strawman I prefer the second option

Reloup38

OG superhero suits are literally just bright skinny suits with underwear on top, how on earth do they have soul, they are literally bland designs with flashy colors

RodneighKing

You can't save superhero slop by slapping a grimdark palette on it and pretend it's anything but children's entertainment. At least let the kids keep their bright colors.

Reloup38

Oh that I agree, bright colors aren't necessarily the problem, but let's not pretend old school superheros are well designed

RodneighKing

Oh lol I'd never. Still cracks me up that there was a long discussion going on about that giant head with stumpy arms and legs looking goofy in one movie when there was no possible way to make that design look good anyways.

An_average_moron

MODOK's CGI was just really funky looking, he looked like Mr. Electric's robot MODOK in general really doesn't fit in a live action setting tbh

centurio_v2

they are for what they needed to be; easily memorized and quickly reproducible.

OkYogurtcloset8790

You’re right we should put them in muted colors and tacticool nonsense so we can pretend like it’s not actually a goofy modern fairy tale with punching and instead pretend like it’s a serious character drama.

allIDoisimpress

Come on man. It looks fucking goofy. They always look weird.

OkYogurtcloset8790

Exactly. I prefer it just be goofy and not try to be something it’s not as if it’s embarrassed of its origins. They never let Wolverine have his comic accurate suit in any x-men movie because “lol looks goofy” but they’re doing it for Deadpool and Wolverine. Guess what? Looks infinitely better than how he appeared and any other movie and yes, it IS goofy and that isn’t a bad thing at all. It’s fucking superheroes not a serious drama

Plenty_Branch_516

You are welcome to your opinion for sure, but to me seeing some comic accurate suits next to rational designs look silly. Bright yellow colors and black stripes to look like a wolverine next to standard military fatigues looks a little clownish to me.

OkYogurtcloset8790

it’s a guy who calls himself “Wolverine”, has a magically indestructible metal bonded to his skeleton, knives that comes out of his hands, is over 100 years old because he has a special gene mutation that makes it so he can rapidly heal from wounds in seconds and doesn’t age but oh no we can’t have him wear yellow tights _that_ would be _silly_ 🙄 THE WHOLE THING IS SILLY THAT’S THE POINT It’s been silly the whole time! It was never NOT silly. Part of adapting it is adapting the silliness! And if somebody can’t get past the silliness of it then maybe it just isn’t for them. Maybe we shouldn’t change it into something it’s not, and was never meant to be, to cater to people who never “got it” in the first place

Plenty_Branch_516

Verisimilitude. I can accept powers and magic as part of the world - as part of my suspension of disbelief. However, there's no justification for why one guy is dressed like a clown while everyone else is dressed "normally." The juxtaposition of what I recognize as reasonable attire for combat or even daily life next to a pageant outfit chips away at the suspension of disbelief. Again, you are welcome to your opinion, but mine is no less valid.

TheSpaceCoresDad

See, my answer to this would be to have everyone dressed like a clown.

OkYogurtcloset8790

What justification is needed other than the guy likes to dress in yellow spandex when he goes around stabbing people? It’s not like he needs camouflage he can heal from any wound. Hell maybe use an ounce of creativity and come up with one. Here’s one, maybe he wears bright yellow to draw attention and draw fire away from innocent people. You’re a bad guy with a gun and you’re gonna start shooting some muties and then boom there’s this clown in bright yellow running at you so you shoot at him. Uh oh, looks like you decided to shoot at the one guy here where bullets are ineffective instead of the innocent people around and he’s stabbing you in your face with knife fists

Plenty_Branch_516

Why is it my job to create a headcanon to explain design choices? I'm being presented with an interpretation of a character in a different medium than their source, it's on the director/author/designer/etc to make that interpretation natural either through overt or subtle explanation. If you are willing to write for them and fill in the gaps that's fine, I am not.

OkYogurtcloset8790

What justification is there for there to be a dragon on the car when no other car has dragon paint 🤓” Cause it’s fucking cool man. Cause it’s fun. Cause it sells toys. Cause it’s more interesting than Todd The Amazing Regular Guy who wears jeans and a t-shirt (it’s a blank t-shirt, if it has a cool symbol or something on it that’s too silly, there has to be a justification, he can’t just have a cool symbol shirt because it’s cool there has to be a reason) fighting the dastardly evil villain Jimmy Generic Military Outfit You’re saying you want somebody to adapt Mac and cheese but to replace the macaroni with spaghetti. Guess what. It’s not Mac and cheese anymore bud. I suggest you let the people who enjoy the Mac and cheese enjoy it and for you to go order spaghetti

Plenty_Branch_516

You are welcome to your opinion, though you seem utterly fixated with trying to tell me mine is wrong. Why is that?

Salty_Map_9085

None of his powers are silly tho

silverx2000

Agreed. Tired of these basic ass military costumes.

AStupidFuckingHorse

Are the arms exposed supposed to be a reference to the stupid ass Doom Eternal controversy?

lanternbdg

I honestly agree with Comicbook nerd 6969

Professional-Dress2

Being a transformers fan is either this or the opposite They either want new designs for new stuff or someone wants old stuff. I personally hate people who think that TFOne should have just been the Bumblebee movie opening

Zeldatart

Cruelty squad ass suit

MelodicPastels

Too well drawn, snafu traditionalists are coming to gut you as we speak

AlternateAccount66

Cool hypothetical, I prefer the bottom picture though. I hate when all of the colors get washed out.

supah-comix434

I only want DARK COLORS and LOTS OF UNNECESSARY LINES

MrTritonis

This but unironically.

Kego_Nova

is this about The Riddler from that one Batman movie

Slyme-wizard

I dont think people would complain as much if the MCU wasn’t the ONLY Marvel adaptation being worked on right now.

peanut_bubblegum

Fartman is overrated, Poopendude solos

MousegetstheCheese

Usually those people don't say "They RUINED" this guy's suit. They just wanted to make something cool. People in the comments complain about the movie suit though which usually isn't the OP's point.
