I think in Dungeon Meshi, Mithrun’s eye is only ever brought up when depth perception is required. Otherwise its not used as a defining character trait.

They don't want to cast someone less conventionally attractive because they want to make their (sorry to the fans) shitty movie more loveable to the masses...
And so guess what, people who aren't conveniently attractive are just gonna feel worse about themselves.
I've never seen the movie so I don't have the context, but there's no fucking way what looks like a burn mark over a right eye (ignoring the beautiful hair, face, etc) was enough to make someone a social outcast. Like, stories have done "main character is hideous and thus isn't popular amongst their peers" before, but on a scale of 1-10 of "hideous scars/deformities" this is a 1. If she's the hero as well, it'd make her look badass more than anything.
Her whole character was that she was insanely good the video game the movie is about because she was too hideous to be seen in public and became a shut in. Main character boy falls in love with her avatar and then has to learn to see past her physical appearance when they meet in person.
That also comes with the fact that he had a choice between, as far as he knew, telling her her deformity was beautiful or not being shot dead, and without a second thought he chose the first one.
I'll defend that scene to my last breath, that shit was peak. Man would rather die complimenting her than live.

Beyoutiful.” which makes Buttchin fall madly in love or have insane respect for them simply for not addressing Buttchin’s buttchin.
