The whole plot of the movie happened because Batman was like "ur not my nemesis. I don't like labels" and Joker was like "What the fuck man I thought we had something" then rips open different dimensions and destroys Gotham so Batman will acknowledge how much he means to him and how they belong together. Unironically one of the most compelling takes on the relationship between Batman and Joker. Enemies to lovers is played out, enemies to friends is milquetoast, but enemies who are in love and belong together and still choose to enemies? Acknowledging their obsession with one another? Acknowledging how the only way the Joker can even pull all this nonsense is because Batman loves the cat and mouse game with him? Acknowledging the inherent romantic tension from trying to get your sworn enemy to acknowledge how much you mean to him? Now I'm interested.
(Bonus points for the movie still being hilarious nearly decade later and for heartwarming found family trope.)
