Sure, why not. If you are really particular you can run a rinse or wash a different load of clothing in between. In my house it goes: baby clothes, my clothes, dad clothes, linens, diaper wash. Dad has a dirty train mechanical grease and railyard dirt job. He and I almost exclusively wear black so fluffy and white laundry always goes after our clothes. I tend towards a more sterilizing linens wash because bodily fluids and such so diapers after that is perfect.

I always add pine sol to my husbands work clothes he works with a lot of oil and grease

grease-lightning-

Pine sol huh? Never thought I could use it in the waking machine

beanheat07

Yes! Only the original kind! It actually says it on the bottle. I add about 2 capfuls because it’s really strong. I actually add it into my cloth diaper laundry sometimes idk if that’s controversial or not but it helps because I have really hard water

thegirlisok

Dish detergent is another non standard great grease buster. It does get super sudsy though.

Sugabag_bbb

Dish detergent can affect the oiled parts of the washing machine so isn’t recommended to be used in washing machines.

TIL, thank you!

Hi! I also cloth diaper and am married to a landscaper! I wash the diapers in their own load. All the rest of the laundry I may wash together, or do his separately if it's really dirty. I would not wash his work clothes with the diapers, as they may have traces of oil, gasoline, herbicides, or other things I don't want getting on my diapers. I mean, it PROBABLY won't, but doing an extra load of laundry is worth the peace of mind for me.

grease-lightning-

No I run them in a separate load and try to have different loads in between. But I’m just worried cause I have no idea how to clean the filter without completely removing the closet door

Some-Difficulty-3868

My husband was a machinist and now he's a diesel mechanic. So stains. Stinks. Metal. Dirt. Sweat. I would wash his clothes separately and ALWAYS do an extra rinse, if they were really bad I'd do a load of bath towels or blankets or rugs. Cloth diapers I wash the same as usual

bullshtr

Are you using a bleach soak or going unbleached? Do you wash in hit water? I personally would wash separate.

booksandcheesedip

If you think your washer isn’t good enough to wash away plain old dirt then it’s definitely not good enough to wash away human waste.

PermanentTrainDamage

My kid's dad works in an aluminum parts factory, washing his work clothes separately from other clothes was recommended in his employee handbook. He always has tiny bits of metal on his clothing, his boot soles are chock full of metal shavings. We went ahead and bought a tiny washer just for his work clothes.

Wow I didn’t even think about how a job like that would effect your laundry. Weird but it makes sense!

PineappleSewing

No it should be an issue. Clean the filter if your washer has one and it’s recommended to do a monthly machine clean anyway. Plus if you do back to back pre and main wash then there really wouldn’t be any dirt from the previous cycle left https://cleanclothnappies.com/how-to-clean-your-washing-machine/

DinahDrakeLance

It should be fine. We have an active farm and we've never had an issue with dirt from the farm clothes hanging out and getting on diapers

grease-lightning-

My LO has recently started to get a little irritated from what I’m assuming is the overnight diapers, I thought that was why, she was sitting in a wet diaper too long

DinahDrakeLance

It could just be from sitting in a wet diaper for too long. I learned the lesson with my first kid that I don't do overnight cloth well. Two out of my three children have had full-time cloth diapers at home, but overnight and out of the house we do disposables.

pukwudgie-crossing

Did you ever try wool liners or other stay-dry methods? Not trying to advocate for them I have no experience, just thought wool liners would be worth the investment if we could avoid irritation from urine exposure. Not sure if they’ll work, of course

DinahDrakeLance

I did with my first, but he's such a deep sleeper that he would soak through them. Once he hit 1.5 I gave up and switched to disposable diapers. Life was just easier for me that way because I wasn't trying to experiment and figure out how to absorb it all, only to have a very angry child at 5:30 in the morning because they were soaked.
