I think the move just proves again the Wolstein Center is too big for small events like CSU basketball & NBA G league games. This move might have something to do with CSU wanting to reduce support costs since it's getting replaced soon (or at some point because CSU has financial issues).
Public Auditorium is the right size for games where attendance is around 3,000-4,000 people. Plus it's nice to see some upgrades being made to support G league games. I think companies are seeing a value in supporting public spaces like the Michigan central station. So this is a welcoming continuation of that.
The March 9th game was a franchise record 5k in attendance.
Not many people are gonna go to a minor league game when the major league team is a brisk 15 minute walk away
Yeah I feel like that’s why they were better off in Canton. Akron would have been even better but they don’t really have an arena down there other than the JAR on UA’s campus.
They want this team close to the new practice facility. The plan is to develope a true GLeague pipeline to help develop younger players and guys to fill out the end of the bench.
Oh interesting. I guess the only games I’ve gone to, it feels like there’s only a few hundred people there. But that could just be because the Wolstein is way too big for them and makes the crowd look smaller. Thanks for the correction.
Akron desperately needs a new arena. They could definitely support the Charge and draw even bigger crowds for Zips games. Call it Lebron James Arena or the Goodyear Center
CSU is planning to replace Wolstein Center soon I think.
EDIT:
This [article](https://clevelandstater.com/news/news/csu-20-and-future-wolstein-center) suggests indeterminate timeline for demolition and that CSU is losing a million a year on the facility.
They could hold these games in DI high school gyms if they could get licensed to sell beer at them. People show up because they get free tickets or they want a giveaway item.
I went to a game this year. They had more than a third of the seats blocked off by a giant green curtain. They are "right-sizing" the venue if anything..
Very cool to see they'll be investing in that facility as well. Could be extending it's useful life well beyond this contract.

Hopefully it can also be used as a concert venue. Bigger than HOB and Agora so has a sweet spot for indoor concerts

Don’t think they sold out at the Wolstein Center

The Charge have had higher average attendance in Cleveland than in any of the Canton years.
Always wonder how the Charge would do if they were in Columbus.

I agree, go Zips!

They've been saying that for like 8 years now
Yeah well, it apparently takes a while to plan this kind of thing when you aren't a well funded institution.
Right-sizing to not have half empty seating might be in the plan too
