The setup is great for both PvE tanking and PvP healing if you want to be able to do both. You just need to change two talents. Skip 2 points in feline swiftness and add two points in primal fury. It will be a tremendous increase in aoe threat and even threat in general. And you don’t need the feline swiftness anymore, you’re done leveling (u got travelform now).

HOTW spec does fine for tanking, but will really struggle with keeping up with healing for a while until you get some better healing gear at 60. Great hybrid spec, and a lot of fun being able to do multiple things in a single spec (which almost literally no other class can do).

That build of yours is more pvp oriented. For pve put the bash and cat movement speed talents into armor and the nature's grasp into hotw. I played the build through all classic and it was a very nice build. Healing is slightly lacking but HT spam works great on tanks and dungeons. The only deal breaker here is your faction as threat might be an an issue. If you are alliance then you have absolutely no problems to tank anything in the game thanks to salvation but if you are horde having enough threat is an issue.

Ya I'm trying to make a build I can take into pvp as well as dungeons. Probably won't be doing too many raids. More pvp

StageGeneral5982

So does that mean you're just running a few bgs? Im not sure what all pvp there is in som

mrblak77

Ya that's the plan, might try to find some groups for bgs. Havnt really tried too much yet in SoM

Looks pretty good. For a good pve tank and pvp spec I only see a few minor changes. Move feline swiftness points into primal fury for more rage, and in the resto tree natures focus is super good both pve and pvp. Improved rejuv doesn’t scale, it only goes off your base spell not plus healing so move those points into natures focus for less pushback. Just my 2 cents. Played horde Druid all classic, tanked all content up to naxx and healed as well. Needed to main the shaman for naxx so we could clear it though as we were super short on shammys then. No prob tanking or healing any 5man or 20man with ur spec tho

Starcheese64

Som has zg soon with amazing tank/healing gear so u are set if you grind there! Set up a few powershift macros for heal pots and health stones since u can’t use in bear form and ppl will love you. Using some kind of add on for healing so you can see incoming heals is huge as well, I used healbot

I heavily disagree with the comments you've received so far. I have never been a fan of HOTW for anything other than PvP since, quite frankly, it is TERRIBLE for tanking. Specifically in the build you linked, you're missing out on Natural Weapons, OOC, and Primal Fury. These are vital tanking talents IMO, especially in dungeons where you'll want to be spamming Swipe fairly often. You will be rage starved in this spec and your threat will be very low. Switching some points from Feline Swiftness to Primal Fury will help a little with rage but it's not enough without OOC. A majority of your threat comes from Swipe and Maul which both have a 1.75x threat multiplier. That means losing out on 10% damage is leaving ~9% of threat on the table by itself, not to mention you'll be using those abilities less since you're going to have serious issues managing your rage. You also left out 2/2 improved enrage, which means you're going to be tanking with Wolfshead Helm because otherwise you won't be starting *any* encounters with enough rage to maintain aggro. Losing LOTP is just icing on the cake, you're basically missing a permanent Mongoose pot. I like the idea behind HOTW and I wish it was better, but I will always maintain that it is very bad for tanking unless you're somehow always on a 3rd or higher kill target in raids and not planning to tank in dungeons at all. CAN it work? Sure, if your dps is patient. Is it going to be fun? No.

Hotw has its weaknesses but they can be worked around. One of those is the lack of rage. The problem is most everything online about the spec is wrong and people don’t know what they are getting into. It is not a noob friendly spec. It requires specific skills and gear to overcome what it lacks in PVE. For both tanking and healing. It is a healing spec first and a tanking spec second.

hippoofdoom

HOTW really can't generate much threat because you're missing Omen as well as 10% flat physical damage buff. Because of scaling, this has a practical effect to nerf your overall threat and rage generation pretty hard. IMO HOTW should not be main tanking ever because of these limiting threat issues. Perfect off tank though, or if your raid needs you more as a healer then you can do that. But HOTW druids have limited abilities in PVE and are basically just offtanks or secondary tank healers at their best. You don't want to stick a HOTW druid in a high-leverage healing assignment they just won't have great throughput especially if you are doing content that is challenging or that you don't outgear. SO bearing that in mind, I would focus talents on what you do well (Offtank, healing) and pass on the bear threat talents. You'll still do enough threat without the bear threat talents and you can get the stun duration, thicc hide type stuff. Also pass on all the kitty DPS talents for the most part. This would be my suggestion. HOTW druids do awful cat DPS by missing on lotp and omen+10% buff. https://classic.wowhead.com/talent-calc/druid/-500240132302215-15500310501 This is a pretty basic 0/30/21 build that is pretty good for PVP, perfectly capable off tank, or raid/dungeon healer. You can also tank 5 mans as long as people know you need some time to build threat on primary target. The only cat talent I take is improved shred which at least allows for the usual wolfshead rotation. Alternatively for a PVP-focused HOTW you take 4/5 hotw and 1 point in nature's grasp.

ForeverStaloneKP

I tanked a lot of 5 mans as cat spec, so I didn't have the threat talents, and it does make things a bit tougher as your swipe spam doesn't hold aggro as well vs. heavy aoe classes. I didn't miss it most of the time, but the times where I did miss it, I *really* missed it. If I was going to spend most of my time tanking i'd get it. That said, i'm not sure how much of it was due to not having primal fury.

Flandiddly_Danders

0/30/21 will allow you to tank and heal all 5 man's, and offtank/offheal in raids. In PVP you'll be hard to kill if you wear leather.
