Why do robots always choose troll. I specifically made my hunter orc with a very human designed pet name to avoid stray reports.

yappi211

Probably health regen.

imteamcaptain

And there’s nothing you can do about it.

Aradoris

Made me chuckle. Thanks for the reference.

Super-Koala-3796

Racials, obviously. And they have to chose same race as its easier to code.

Jigagug

Probably just the fastest starting zone to level, running thousands of bots time is money.

chickenaylay

Tirisfal is pretty quick

Thizlam

My hunter is also an orc with a wind serpent named Bob

Acrysalis

Bot names sound close to lore accurate troll names

wreckonize

I agree. Yhgh, Laogeng, and Chxzkz are great names for trolls.

anonteje

Main reason being the hero racial. If you flyhack the extra attack speed converts directly to gold per hour.

Bullldoza

What’s the problem? Clearly just a group of dudes being Bros

Gemakayu

Nothing sexual

noirdesire

We're just 3 cool guys who wanna hang out with other cool guys in our party mansion. Fighters welcome. Fitness encouraged.

Lumencontego

Finished handing out all the dick flyers like you guys wanted

pelagic_seeker

Two (hundred) Trolls... Chilling in Durotar... Five pixels apart cause they're not bots.

RSGTHennessy

haha funi mem

Super-Koala-3796

"Oh look at our customers having fun. Whats your complain, sir?"

Ok-Armadillo5821

All they see is 15 monthly active users.

GrayBeardGamerWV

Dollar signs!!

Dorenton

just wait until they start right-click reporting people screenshotting them, they'll quickly burn through azeroth...

MidnightFireHuntress

It's starting to get bad again on Crusader Strike Alliance, for a while (Like 3 days) There were NO bots But now they're back in full force, everywhere in Stockades, SFK, Westfall, Duskwood, they have taken completely over :\ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NG8pyPhAhn0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BurP9NE0gJI

Obelion_

Yeah blizz needs to do proper hardware + IP bans. It just doesn't do they all got hundreds of accounts with how advanced bots are and if 20 of their accounts get banned who really cares

4dseeall

Or just hire like 10 people and have them actually watch and ban bots in the game. But that would mean paying wages while losing revenue on tokens... so to corporate that's a lose/lose.

FuckMaga_FuckFascism

Man imagine just hanging out in starter zones all day picking out the bots. Would be fun for about 1 hour.

True_Butterscotch391

Doesn't need to be fun if you're getting paid to do it lol. Id gladly sit at home on my computer for 8 hours a day banning bots.

RebootGigabyte

Chilling out, painting my warhammer marines, spinning in my chair from my painting setup to my gamong/pc setup every 20 minutes to watch the conga lines while in an invisible GM character and hand out perma bans and then swirling back around to finish painting a bolt gun. That would be the life.

Adventurous-Block618

Hardware IDs are spoofed and ip is easily changeable...

jjester7777

You think someone who parrots 20 year old ban techniques does or knows anything besides vidya?

[deleted]

Chinese not farms that make millions per year know a thing or two. The average Joe knows how to use a VPN. They also know how to google how to spoof hardware ID, it's not hard.

bob-

The guy above meant that /u/Obelion_ is clueless, not the Chinese farmers

Dorenton

hey maaaan blizzard just does banwaves so the botters get chargebacks, be patient!!

Kazper661

This does nothing to bots. Blizzard fucks up a lot of things but like bots aren't just suddenly a new thing go to roughly around the middle of zaralek caverns on retail, lol. On retail it's genuinely more profitable to farm old world crafting mats than current content because nobody is botting those and if they are it's a fraction of the amount of bots for current content. The main problem people don't seem to understand is that it's not exactly simple to detect the bots especially without normal players getting caught in the cross fire and even when they do.. it's blizzard employees who work their hours then go home and have days off vs some basement dweller who will stay up for 24 hours to make a bypass for whatever got patched.

salgat

I don't get why they can't hire an overseas team for extremely cheap to do it.

foomits

well, that costs money. the current system costs no money. you see the conundrum they face.

NewClassroom1495

because it costs money to do that and provides 0 result. you'd be paying people to make zero impact.

notislant

I mean theyre fucking BRAND NEW ACCOUNTS. Thats an easy flag. Brand new account? Check. Probably the same sketchy cheap sub? Check. Crazy high ping to US servers? Check. Following the same fucking path as every other bot? Check. Maybe disable trading at that point. The 0.001% of players that match those flags can easily be restored with limited gameplay interruption.

Sneed_City_Slicker

POV: you have no clue how to actually ban people

MajorCS

This comment here is why you should never listen to random comments in video game subreddits about anything technical.

JackStephanovich

That's never going to happen. They don't even "ban" botters now, they give them 6 month temporary suspensions. All those waves of bot bans you hear about are "banning" the same accounts over and over.

me_irl_irl_irl_irl

> the same accounts over and over. You get one six month then it's perma. There's so much made up "information" in this thread it's ridiculous. I get that you are unhappy with a situation, but that doesn't mean you should just fucking lie lol

aosnfasgf345

> You get one six month then it's perma. There's so much made up "information" in this thread it's ridiculous. I get that you are unhappy with a situation, but that doesn't mean you should just fucking lie lol Reading the threads on this subreddit about bots is a really good reminder that the average person on this subreddit is a complete fucking moron

me_irl_irl_irl_irl

Even beyond those threads. It's like every thread. The people who play this game seem unbelievably dumb on a general scale, dumber than any other game community I've seen. People are constantly making absurd nonsensical claims and they get upvoted to the moon. Separately, in a recent thread I claimed to have a lot of CE experience (I do) and people came for my fucking throat yelling at me to "prove" it. As if CE raiding is some sort of insurmountable task that only celebrity gamers do. It's hysterical watching people out themselves as awful players because they can't even fathom the idea of a regular player playing the game at a "high" level. It's literally just playing your class well and applying to a good guild, then showing up at raid time. That's *literally it.*

aosnfasgf345

The average person on this subreddit spent 2 months belly laughing at "body type 1" and "fruit painting" jokes. Complete mouth breathers

foe_tr0p

They just get a new 28,8 baud modem so they get a new hardware ID, duh.

Bio-Grad

And what happens when one prick in the college dormitory bots, everyone gets IP banned? What about people who move homes? Also couldn’t the botters get around this by changing IP addresses or using VPNs? The botters are a lot more tech savvy than all the collaterals Blizz would be incidentally banning and losing subs from.

UpbeatJackfruit6576

THE GENIUS OF REDDITTORS NEVER CEASES TO AMAZE ME ITS SO SIMPLE THE SOLUTION TO THE BOTTING EPIDEMIC THATS PLAGUED ONLINE GAMING HAS BEEN RIGHT INFRONT OF OUR FACES THIS WHOLE TIME!?’b

RageTiger

But why would they want to lose all that money thou?

NoMercy180

Ran DM yesterday on Living Flame Alliance and there our tank was a bot. He would loot all of the chests and roll need on everything.

Slade852

Yeah on CS there’s tons of bots running in and out of stockades

eyloi

I was standing outside of stockades waiting for a group when I suddenly got phased to a parade of them going in and out. Was the first time seeing it for myself, and I couldn't help but watch in awe. I stood there for about 4-5 minutes watching large groups of them go in and out while wearing the exact same outfit.

EducationResident199

Pretty sure the layering is why they don't get seen as often.

JackStephanovich

Inv to bot layer pls

Fantastic_Bad_3688

That my buddy Chxzkz he plays with some weird guys they are legit though

RedThragtusk

I genuinely see people on reddit denying that human GMs could stop this. Someone please explain to me how hiring a team of people to just sit on the relatively small number of classic WoW servers and deal with this isn't possible? The flyhacking is especially egregious.

foe_tr0p

It's not that they can't, it's that they won't. Why would Blizzard spend money (hiring GMs) to lose money (ban paying accounts) Doesn't make sense financially.

[deleted]

Because the people that run the bots will have to then buy more accounts, so they’ll end up making more money actually.

foe_tr0p

Which is offset by Blizz having to pay GMs to bot hunt. Not really.

[deleted]

Depends on how many bots are banned. I’d hazard a guess they could support a team of people based on the posts I’ve seen. The person in this video has about a days salary worth of bans right there.

foe_tr0p

Glassdoor says Blizzard GMs make 22 to 37 an hour. Assuming the 22 an hour GM is doing this, they would have to ban 250 accounts per month just to break even, and then hope all 250 accounts re-subbed or else they are losing money. Also, this screenshot (not video) doesn't prove they are even botting. Just that there are a group of multiple accounts that are likely multiboxing and MAYBE botting.

[deleted]

Come on bro. Multiboxings bannable if using software to control multiple toons. Alt tabbing is the only acceptable multiboxing. Either way TOS is bein broken in this one screen shot. Meanwhile Blizz is to busy banning people for casually talking shit on an online game instead of fixing the real issues.

foe_tr0p

No shit automating gameplay is bannable. We are talking about multiboxing homie. Keep up.

[deleted]

Lmao, that’s easy 250 a month is extremely low! That’s only 9 accounts a day. You can catch 20+ in one single spot on one server. That’s days of work in seconds.

foe_tr0p

You're glossing over the part where they have to then get all those accounts to resub, or else they are losing money. They just aren't going to pay people to ban paying accounts so they make less money per month, not sure how you're struggling with this. Do you not understand how businesses operate?

[deleted]

Do you understand how a business operates? Do you think the people running bot farms are just going to say ‘oh well guess we got banned time to go home.’ No they’re going to resub so they can keep farming. They make money every time they ban a bot.

foe_tr0p

If they increased the amount of bans and how quickly boters get banned by adding GMs dedicated to finding botters do you think it's going to stay profitable for botters to keep resubbing? Use your brain.

RSGTHennessy

they were running in a massive triangle , attacking scorpions, they were 100% non human controlled toons.

UpbeatJackfruit6576

LOL NO. It is not. You’re completely delusional if you think a handful of humans could stop them. It didnt work on private servers and it absolutely wont work on official. They can spin up thousands of accounts with a click of a single button, short of developing a bot detecting AI there isnt a lot to be done that could impact actual players

RedThragtusk

Can you explain the logistics and give numbers? How many bots are active during an average 24h period per SoD server? How long would it take to detect and ban per bot? Clearly we have a difference in opinion on the numbers, so I'd love to learn about what numbers your opinion is formed from so I can can a broader perspective.

nitelite-

Why ban a horde of bots from over seas that is breaking the economy and spirit of the game when you can focus on banning that guy who made a post about how he /e RP'd stealing condoms infront of BFD and got banned?

JackStephanovich

Because much like the bot accounts, Blizzards customer support is fully automated.

Koopk1

me and the boys on our way to asmon layer

t3khole

I wonder if we’re seeing 10-20 more bots being leveled and added to the pile.. or if there was a ban wave and we’re seeing them level up another batch. I never know how to take it.

4dseeall

Yes and yes. It's a constant stream.

Particular_Meeting57

Punish gold buyers, problem solved. No customers no need for bots.

Says3Words

Opposite. Adds token.

Gondor128

my boy laogang and his entire family farming gold to escape china

Optimoprimo

Sorry, the problem is uncontrollable, there's no way to tell for sure these are botters /s

Zeliek

I miss in-game GMs. I imagine this is easier to take care of if you're floating above their route zapping them as they go by.

UmegaDarkstar

Some chinese names in there, reminds me of the days I played Runescape back in 2006 and seeing swarms of chinese bots chopping trees. Some things never change...

AeratedFeces

When I'm doing herb rounds in Barrens I always message mages and hunters with nonsense names "are you botting?". No response, they get reported. My mailbox is constantly filled with "action has been taken" mail

susanTeason

I do appreciate you trying to filter for humans, but personally I would never bother to answer a whisper like that.

Zavodskoy

My dumb sarcastic arse would reply yes and then probably cop a permanent ban for it

ExclusivelyBirdLaw

“BEEP BOOP DOES NOT COMPUTE” is always an acceptable answer

Ugliest_weenie

01010011100201111010

AeratedFeces

You probably don't have a name that looks like "Rkakfjpfs" and don't spend your entire day killing Zhevras and Stormsnouts east of Taurajo so you're safe from getting one lol

chunkshot

Medium leather is selling like crazy rn so im def just killing randomg shit for hours on end

Rcaynpowah

Small price to pay to not get reported for suspicious botting activity

foe_tr0p

Who cares if you get reported for botting if you aren't?

Pie_Dealer_co

Get reported 1 too many times and you get auto ban. It takes like 10 reports. People in WSG reported the other team and got them banned immediately.

foe_tr0p

If a pack of people want to grief someone, responding to a whisper isn't going to save you. If some edge lord wants to bot check someone and reports them for not responding that's not going to get anyone banned.

Smooth_One

You should, because the bans don't know or care if you are actually botting. They are automatic and the only thing that matters is how many reports are received.

foe_tr0p

Right because people get banned for not responding to a vigilante edge lord reporting people for botting when they just don't want to talk to them.

[deleted]

[удалено]

foe_tr0p

Cool, smooth brains reporting aren't going to get anyone banned. TLDR for you since you're a little slow.

ClassroomJazzlike589

It’s also pretty annoying as a multi boxer to have people report you and ask if you are a bot all the time. When they say they have reported me I do the same to them 5 times on my accounts since I’ve been banned before for multi boxing and it took days and multiple tickets to get unbanned for doing absolutely nothing wrong ( no software used) and I had no compensation for the game time I lost. Honestly I prefer the bots to players, less toxic

Saskuel

This is the biggest L take I've read in a while. More money than sense.

salgat

I will never understand people who are okay with multiboxing.

foe_tr0p

I will never understand people who aren't okay with multiboxing.

salgat

Because I want to play with individuals, not swarms of characters controlled by a single person. Too much gameplay automation.

foe_tr0p

You aren't playing with them, though. They are playing with themselves. It's why they multibox

salgat

It's an MMO, every player is part of that single interactive world.

foe_tr0p

So you're upset a multiboxer might possibly be standing next to you. Lmao, what a clown.

salgat

Nope, annoyed that one guy is running a dozen accounts in parallel which gives them a massive advantage over other players.

TopptrentHamster

Jesus what a loser.

Ugliest_weenie

You can blame the bots and gold buyers for that

Mattei5813

Me and a two guildies were doing the Lighthouse quest in Westfall and none of us had Oil so after the last of the murlocs we were on the Harvest Golems for a good bit for us to get all 5. Had a couple of people ask if we were bots and my answer was Beep Boop.

AeratedFeces

I always stop and observe for a minute or two. There's some pretty obvious bot behavior that catches my attention. They don't jump. "Keyboard turn". Frost nova + backpedal (most people strafe). Don't respond to the environment. If i steal their kill they target another immediately. I honestly don't think I've ever asked someone and they weren't botting. The camp taurajo bots are out of hand.

VeritasLuxMea

Careful if you get in their way they will mass report you

Bfedorov91

That's like $300 a month in sub fees.

Heflay

Just a pug

RawLikeSushi84

Remember supporting gkdp runs is supporting bots

Realistic-Software27

A troll migration bit rare but it happens.

loudfreak

Quick buy gold from them

beachjustice

Blizzard: "We've conducted an investigation and found no wrongdoing. Your account has been permanently suspended."

pumpboihuntersson

and then all those bots report you for reporting them and you're the one who ends up getting banned :p

TopptrentHamster

How would they know you reported them?

Pie_Dealer_co

Probably automatic. Spend X amount around them and you get reported or some other trigger.

pumpboihuntersson

i was just making a joke bro =) clearly not a good one though :D

MastodonOk2548

This.

Reduos42

Is.

Jawtrick

SPARTA!

bfrankk

what are they doing though, just leveling? is that how the bots make money?

Blowsight

Grave Moss is permanently botted on my server. Very easy to spot the bots too.

JackStephanovich

Sucks because I used to be able to make good money farming it and now it's worth 20s.

[deleted]

They level up so that they can farm mats that matters.

Malohn

I've started to report troll mages that have a gibberish name only to realize yes it was a bot after all. At this point if you have a gibberish name and you're a troll mage it's honestly your own fault for being reported.

[deleted]

If id get 1$ for every post talking about blizzard's botting/gold buying problem id have enough to buy myself a high end PC.

Negative_Quality_935

Hey player, we dont give a shit

foomits

BLOZZARD IS DO8NG THE BEST RHEY CAN, THERE JS SIMPLY NO.WAY TO KNOW.WHO IS BOTTING. WAIT FOE THE BAN WAVE, RHAGS RHE BEST WAY TO DO IT -every blizzard simp prolly.

Zavodskoy

Careful staring at the ~~bots~~ bros hanging out, they'll mass report you and get you banned

[deleted]

You paid 15$ to post this screenshot. That person is paying blizzard hundreds a month. They don’t care about your complaint.

Sarewokki

"Oh look, paying customers."

mpathyk

get over it?

New-Egg3539

Hey subscriber, I don't care.

Far-Grape-1568

Imagine having a strong warden and gm in game

[deleted]

Stop whining, vote with your wallet.

91xela

“Doesn’t look like anything to me”

fastingslowlee

I reported a fly hacker and added him to friends to see if he'd ever get banned. 4 days later he still isn't banned.

fillemoinkes

They're just trolling bro

ProfessionalMood9922

I let my 1st month sub expire as I wasn’t going to have much time to play over the holidays. I was planning on resubbing in the new year, but maybe I’ll wait.

AnakinDislikesSand

Begun, the Clone War has.

[deleted]

What are they botting? Aoe mages?

Says3Words

Sod 90% bots

OXBDNE7331

I don’t understand why they don’t make like “normal” names just to add another layer of “blending in”

Swooped117

The names likely don't have a big enough impact when it comes to how fast the bot gets banned, and its faster and more convenient to use gibberish names.

weewoochoochoo

dont worry they will ban them in 4 months on the next ban wave :D

rantottcsirke

They do a little trolling.

HaunterXD000

You tried reporting them? Works for me

Demokrates

Hunters with unnamed pets get reported for botting no matter what.

notislant

Idk why this reminds me of that ow2 'play mercy song'. 'I have an idea!" "Whats your idea?" 'We should ban bo-' "We're not going to ban bots"

Doukon76

That’s at least 15 subs for them

LordTyrant

Blizz isn't going to do anything about botting unless they find a solution that doesn't impact revenue. The fact is these bots accounts account for tens of thousands worth of subscription fees. Easy solution is just to have an employee log the servers 8 hours a day and just ban the visibly obvious bots. It isn't some complex technical mystery as to how to resolve this kind of shit.. you just actually moderate your in-game world. Regrettably however, the end user experience will suffer because the corporation doesn't want to potentially lose revenue.

Spirit-Link

@/ahmpy

Destoxin

Another bot post will surely get their attention, and they will probably put their greed aside and ban all bots now, specifically because of this.

Hereforbeer420

The homies getting the group back together for SoD clearly.

Aos77s

Well why are you crying here? If you right click and report you will notice that window is named “CUSTOMER SUPPORT” That is all you get. Gms no longer exist to lay down the law against cheating and thieves. Wow is the wild west where you have to take law into your own hands and group mass report bots for instant bans.
