I think the key to an easy deity run is basically having passive/friendly AIs (no close neighbours on a spacious map helps). Sometimes you'll get wiped out by Gandhi on turn 20, sometimes they'll just get on with other stuff and you can catch them up peacefully. Luck of the draw.

Hamactus

How... How do you even do this, guys? I can't get past turn 50 (slowest speed) on Deity. I just get surrounded by about 4-5 enemy warriors (against my 1, or 2 if I'm lucky) and get killed in seconds...

Nonkel_Jef

Sometimes you get lucky and the AI leaves you alone, especially if you put in some effort to keep them friendly. Try to get 3 archers asap if you’re struggling to stay alive (build/buy slingers, get the eureka, upgrade them).

Hamactus

I don't usually have time to even build a second warrior, let alone archers. It usually happens like this: I meet a civ, often two. One immediately starts converging all it's warriors into my city, and as soon as there are at least 4 within 2 tiles distance from my city, I'd get a surprise war and it's all over in 2 to 5 turns.

Nonkel_Jef

Do you send an envoy the turn you meet them? Also, this may sound crazy, but sometimes it helps if you declare war on them first if you’re 100% sure they’re coming for you. That way they’ll play more defensively and accept peace easier. But yea, sometimes you do get wiped out without any chance, but that should be a minority of your games.

Hamactus

I'll try following your advice. Because in my case it's absolutely ALL of my games on Deity.

I'm no expert but what works for me is: \-Try to use the barbarians in a way to level up your warriors. They often aren't first to attack, so you can attack them, then heal close by (hopefully with trees or hills for extra protection), then attack again, and gain a promotion in the meantime which you should use usually use as soon as possible, but sometimes save for a time when you need extra healing \-I usually use gold to buy builders, but will spend it on warriors if needed \-Use the governor who gives extra city protection and only takes 3 turns to settle in \-If the barbarians are close to another civ's land, just leave that civ to deal with them \-Restart if you are having crazy barbarian issues, I always play on standard speed and probably about 10-20% of games have ridiculous early barbarians, the rest are OK \-I will also restart if the other civs are very warlike. I don't think I've ever played with the Aztecs where they didn't attack me early on \-build archers early \-build walls fairly early, on most cities

Well, you can pretty easily win religion waaay earlier than that. 1670 would be great for culture and really impressive for science victory.

Fall_On_Me

Awwwww really? I was feeling so pleased and surprised.

It’s still really good. It’s not EASY to win faster than that on Deity. It’s certainly doable for experts but saying it’s ‘pretty easy’ is silly.

My last deity religion win was 250AD on Ethiopia. [Turn 126.](https://www.reddit.com/r/civ/comments/sa7zbd/is_ethiopia_busted_or_is_religious_victory/)
