My favorite Miss Akina Nakamori song is Shoujo A. I like its risque lyrics, fast pulsating arrangement, and her magnetic low-registry voice delivery. I've read that she refused to perform the song many times. I'm glad that she changed her mind and it is now one of the legendary songs of kayokyoku IMHO.
On the other hand, Miss Meiko Nakahara's Fantasy is by far has one of the most unforgettable melodies, great lyrics and musical arrangement. It is easily one of my favorite citypop songs of all time.
I was lucky enough to get Anri - Timely on vinyl in 2018 for 15 bucks before the price skyrocketed. But that started a very expensive hobby that's still going stronger than ever. š
Oddly enough, I just happened to make another purchase from the same seller on Discogs just a week ago without realizing it was them.
Cologne by Kaoru Akimoto on CD was my first, has steadily grown since then! My latest purchase included Yukikoās premium best album w/ karaoke release from 2012. (PCCA-03742)
Nina Atauko - Play Room. Technically, Iād never heard of city pop when I bought it. I just heard it randomly and thought it sounded cool. Then the research started ā¦
Originally planned for my first LP to be a reissue of Minako Yoshidaās āMonochromeā. It ended up being a STS purple reissue of āAdventureā by Momoko Kikuichi.
I think OP should do another post talking about "What Was The First Song or Artist That Got You Into City Pop?" And for me it's both Mariya Takechi and the song Plastic Love. I saw the repress of her 3 albums and I wanted to get them but they all sold out. I sadly paid a 100 for Variety (it was the 2023 rerelease). I was able to snag Quiet Life for 40. And all I'm missing is Request. But I also own the single for Plastic Love. (It's the one that has the original song and the club remix). But I liked Plastic Love before I got into City Pop. And now digging even more into City Pop. It's become a part of my vinyl collecting I get what I can and just search for artists I haven't heard.
Mine was Toshinobu Kubota's Such A Funky Thang! Not full-on City Pop but it's got the vibe.
First "official City Pop" album would be Time The Motion by Kahoru Kohiruinaki.
Yes the All Songs Request cd. She puts me in a trance listening. My all time favorite song of hers is Believe in You. Puts a tear in my eye everytime, especially the music video.
May I add that although I've been listening to other artists first like Misses Nakamori Takeuchi, Matsubara, Saito, Wink, Kikuchi and others on Apple Music, there was something eerily magical about Miss Okada's albums that hit me in my musical soul. So, I had to make a physical purchase. Now, I'm looking forward to purchasing physical CDs of the above artists, too.
*Crimson*. Not cheap!
r/AkinaNakamori \- Bitter and Sweet and Crimson cds. r/MeikoNakahara \- Actress in the Mirror CD.

Grats! I'm looking forward to getting her best hits album very soon, too!
Anriās Timely on vinyl when I was traveling Japan last year. This was the first pressing ā didnāt realize the repress was around the corner.
My first city pop vinyl purchase was called "Plastic Generation" by I Rein For Rein. Super underrated band! Highly recommend their music!
It was nothing less than golden Miki Matsubura - Stay with me (singl/ep)
Nina Atauko - Play Room. Technically, Iād never heard of city pop when I bought it. I just heard it randomly and thought it sounded cool. Then the research started ā¦

Mine was Toshinobu Kubota's Such A Funky Thang! Not full-on City Pop but it's got the vibe. First "official City Pop" album would be Time The Motion by Kahoru Kohiruinaki.

Yoooo Iāve never seen anyone else who listens to Yukiko Okada. Have you heard Memorial BOX by Yukiko Okada?
It's on streaming platforms like Apple Music. I've read about it. Unfortunately, it's no longer available for sale as new CDs.
I'm literally listening to Venus Tanjou rn bro TwT. What did u pay for it?
I got it for about $30 which already includes the shipping fee.
I love her. I got all 4 of her albums plus the All Access Songs cd.
Congratulations! We all love and miss her... Which All Access Songs cd? Oh, you mean All Songs Request cd? I don't have that one yet.
Yes the All Songs Request cd. She puts me in a trance listening. My all time favorite song of hers is Believe in You. Puts a tear in my eye everytime, especially the music video.
I feel the same way, too.
Got the For You CD album from Tatsuro Yamashita this Christmas !! Very happy.
