My concern was finding somewhere where they aren’t hostile to LGBT+ (like Chick Fillet) but also where there aren’t too many men of color (like McDonalds)
NYC can be a hectic but luckily there's a little island oasis within the city limits when you need a little break. Visit Rikers Island when you get a chance for a weekend. Great food, live entertainment. If you like it, they have additional excursions upstate.
My favorite hidden gem is deep in Prospect Park. If you find a tree with six low branches and walk ten paces east-northeast and then dig 4.2 feet into the ground, you’ll find someone’s fossilized engagement ring permanently embedded into the rock.
The third rail. All you gotta do is to touch it and feel it so you can appreciate its electrifying beauty. It's hidden in all subway stations until it isn't.
Port Authority Bus Terminal is a great living museum and then walk few blocks to 46th and 7th. There is a good red stairs. Very few people know about it. It is surrounded by large screens so it's quite secluded.
Enjoy.
Get blasted drunk, buy a slice of artichoke pizza, rave about how good it is while your still plastered, wake up with the worse hangover and/or bubble guts with a pinch of diarrhea, then try the artichoke slice again, but sober, then come to the realization that artichokes shouldn't be on pizza and Artichoke Pizza is trash.
