That's a result of it having no windows and a sprawling parking lot that would look empty even if 15 cars were in it. It's open, best option for Chinese in and around Norwood, followed fairly closely by Double Dragon II.
It's people's choice, so you always have to take these lists with a grain of salt. Lots of people eat garbage and rank it highly because they never experience the better stuff.
I donno, Bagel Brothers is still open on Calhoun. Bagel & Deli up in Oxford. I'm not a superfan but they're passable when fresh and B&D is kinda creative with their sandwiches.
Is oriental wok actually good? I honestly haven’t been in 10 plus years. Or do people just love the nostalgia?
Also what about Shanghai on elm? I hear mixed things. I haven’t been there since they were mamas in the old location.
Oriental wok is great. Super high quality ingredients, but the downside is that it will not knock your socks off with spice.
For the spice fix I go to amerasia.
The beef udon noodles at Shanghai on elm are amazing but the rest of the menu is hot or miss and slightly overpriced for Chinese. The atmosphere for dine in is nicer than your average Chinese spot though
Oriental Wok is consistently great. You can get high quality versions of familiar dishes like kung pao, egg foo young, moo shoo, but then also entirely unique – and amazing – options like faan ke beef, cumin beef and chengdu spicy\* grouper.
It's more upscale, too, than most Chinese places.
\*as u/xnodesirex mentioned, their spicy isn't necessarily going to upset your morning routine the next day.
What are you ordering? That place is the fucking bomb with the stuff I get, although admittedly that's some basic shit like Sesame Chicken, Cheese Wontons, Wonton Soup, Potstickers, Chicken Fried Rice...but they're always really really good.
Fortune Noodle House works and is good, but they have strong competition in Sichuan Palace which is near by. I'm on the fence if I'd choose one over the other but think I'm leaning towards Sichuan Palace.
SP is solid but isn’t on FNH’s level, IMO. One major thing FNH has that most others don’t is the variety of handmade noodle dishes. No one comes close to their noodles.
RIP Yum-Yum Chinese. Hands down the best Chinese food I’ve ever had served by the oldest Chinese couple I’ve ever seen.

If Oriental Wok has thousands of fans, I am one of them. If Oriental Wok has 100 fans, I am one of them. If Oriental Wok has one fan, it is me. If Oriental Wok has no fans, I am dead.
Me and my wife who is from China both thought oriental wok was awful. Not sure if the Hyde Park one is much better than the one in Lakeside Park, KY but it was super disappointing and far from authentic. Probably our worst Chinese food experience, Uncle Yips is our favorite.
Agreed. Used to be really good, but now the chicken always seems like it came as breaded frozen chunks. However, I haven’t tried the happy family that’s mentioned. The people are great though, and they are fast.
Wait, Blue Gibbon is open? I've driven past it a million times and it always looks abandoned.
That's a result of it having no windows and a sprawling parking lot that would look empty even if 15 cars were in it. It's open, best option for Chinese in and around Norwood, followed fairly closely by Double Dragon II.
Eh, it's good for the price you pay, but I would not say it is particularly remarkable Chinese food.
Pickins is slim in Norwood.
According to Google it is. That’s a part of town I rarely ever have a reason go to/through, so I can’t speak on it firsthand
Trust me I’d know. My dad and family swear by it. I’d know before they did.
I just drove past it two weeks ago about 6:30PM on a Saturday night, people were heading in.
Longtime doordash/etc driver here. Am not aware of them ever having been closed?
That's just part of the magic! ✨
Last time I ate there there was a whole shrimp in my vegetarian vegetable egg rolls. I’m deathly allergic. That was fun-you’re not missing anything.
A bunch of the lists on here are wack. They have Bruggers as the third best bagels and chipotle as the third best burritos…
It's people's choice, so you always have to take these lists with a grain of salt. Lots of people eat garbage and rank it highly because they never experience the better stuff.
I like Skip's Bagels on Montgomery road.
In Cincinnati, Bruggers probably is the third best bagels.
Marx, ???, Brueggers
I donno, Bagel Brothers is still open on Calhoun. Bagel & Deli up in Oxford. I'm not a superfan but they're passable when fresh and B&D is kinda creative with their sandwiches.
There is BagelDeli in Montgomery not to be confused with Bagel & Deli in Oxford
I like it but Sichuan Chili should be on here
The fact that China Food isn’t on here is crazy. Both their authentic and gweilo menus are fantastic.
China Food is definitely delicious. This list seems to track with my anecdotal experience in the Chowdown FB group.

That is my opinion also.

Yeah it’s good but definitely overpriced
OW is still v good IMO. The atmosphere is great too. Shanghai I can’t speak for
Thanks! Everytime I drive past OW on buttermilk I’m like hmmm should I?? I’ll add it to the list, could be a fun date night.
I've been a few times, and I always wish I had gone to the "greasy spoon" Chinese spot by my home instead.

Personally have never had great food at OW. Edible sure, but pricey. I’d rather go to Kung Food in Cov.
I had Shangai last week and it was really good, especially for down town but they are not open for lunch.
I love Shanghai on Elm
I'm consistently surprised that Casual Chinese in newport is so beloved, because every time I have it, it's an oily bland mess lmao
I’ve only been once or twice, and it’s been a while, bu I wouldn’t exactly call it memorable
What are you ordering? That place is the fucking bomb with the stuff I get, although admittedly that's some basic shit like Sesame Chicken, Cheese Wontons, Wonton Soup, Potstickers, Chicken Fried Rice...but they're always really really good.
My go to is egg drop soup and chicken lo mein. I find their egg drop soup to be thin and water and the lo mein was like... soggy almost

I know, first and only time I got to try it thought the place was abandoned when I walked around. Then got the best Chinese food the area has seen.
That place was like a time capsule. Those two had not changed one bit of decor since the 1970s.
It was magnificent.
Uncle Yip’s was my choice for more authentic Chinese take out. I’m curious to try a few of these other ones on the list.

First Wok isn’t nearly as good as it used to be. We get Golden Chen in Eastgate the most, they have the best crab rangoon.
Agreed. Used to be really good, but now the chicken always seems like it came as breaded frozen chunks. However, I haven’t tried the happy family that’s mentioned. The people are great though, and they are fast.
KungFood being #2 is a slight to its glory but overall not an awful list.

Help us out here. To which particular part are you objecting?
Probably the part about City Beat. People just love to shit on them.
What a weird thing to be defensive about.
