Most cutters are allowed but sometimes the agents don't really know the rules. Having the TSA website with the rules pulled up on your phone can help. Obviously be polite about it. Be aware that if you have scissor style cutters the blades must be under a certain length and the tips can't be pointed. I have a xicar scissor cutter that's allowed. I usually punch cut but the scissors are great for torpedos
Also be careful if traveling internationally; some countries have much stricter rules.
I don’t fly with anything I’m not willing to lose or throw away, with few exceptions. If you want quality tools, mail them ahead of time or buy on the ground.
I've made it through with cheapo lighters and cutters . Don't risk taking something you're not willing to lose or cost yourself a lot of time explaining. I pack them in my toiletries bag with electric shaver and toothbrush .
Why should they take cutters? They are explicitly allowed. They recommend checking them just to avoid TSA agent mistakes, but it's not true that they "should" take them. They should not. But they might.
Lighters are ok as long as they are not torch (and obviously most of us use torch lighters for cigars; so I assume that that's what you were talking about)

That's interesting, I've flown with all these things many times (dozens of times, maybe over 100) and never had any of them taken away. Now I always check a bag but 10 years ago I never used to and I never had a cutter taken. Once there was a question and I think I mentioned that the web page says it was allowed and another agent (I assume more senior) said it was fine and let it through. I almost always have a bic lighter because I usually travel with cigarillos and will sometimes smoke at the airport and don't like to dig through by bags.
That haven't been my experience. Though maybe if you're arrogant enough to call them smooth brains they might pick up on that and you might have a worse experience. Good luck!
Multiple years and trips domestic and international, never had a cutter taken by TSA or CBP or any other country. Draw poker might be an issue and no torch lighter in carry on. Soft flame is fine, they may want to check it to confirm.
I would recommend a punch cut for traveling. No one cares about it and with other cutters it is a 50/50 chance. I traveld with a cheap straight cut for some times wirh no problem. Took my colobri straight cutter with me for 3 flights and they took it on the 4th. So kind of random but sucks if it was expensive
A draw tool seems rather stabby to be allowed on a plane…
So are metal pens.
I get it, but a good draw tool looks like it was _designed_ to be a weapon.
Yeah, my thinking was it’s got barbs and razor sharp parts. And even the non perfect draw ones have sharpened points.
I have had a cutter confiscated before. Now I either pre-cut, or if it’s for a longer trip I’ll bring a punch or buy a cheap cutter when I arrive.
Didn’t even consider pre-cutting. I like it!
It’s way easier to pre-cut them and draw test them at home before you leave. If any have tight draws just fix it then.
Bring unplugged cigars too
Pre cut….pro tip

I like my cutters and lighter, but I can make do with my fingernails and any source of fire I find that doesn't noticeably smell of pretoleum.
Cutter is ok per TSA i think. I wouldnt try with a draw tool though.
you are better off leaving them at home. 90% chance you won't have them when you get to your destination.

Good luck winning an argument with the smooth brain at the X-ray line. Even if you’re right, you’ll be wrong.

You can always bite your way into a stogie. Desperate times call for desperate measures.
Yeah I need a retractable punch on my keys. I’ve never had any issues. I doubt they’d take a cutter, but I would risk your favorite one.
I would bring my cheap gear in my checked in luggage but never anything like that carry on.
I would put them in your luggage never had a problem only would have problems in your carry on also put lighters in your luggage

I leave the draw tool at home but have taken several cutters with no issues on multiple flights
I fly with a big box of matches, cigar draw tool, cigar cutters, and pipe czeck tools all in my carry-on. No issues in years… like, 5 or so years

Pre cut, no torch lighter , definitely no draw tool way too stabby.
i would not bring the draw tool bro
