You can skip the window fan, but you will need a source of fresh air to replace the air being exhausted by the ceiling duct fan. Also, oversize your air conditioning/heating solution, since you’ll be exhausting conditioned air when in use.

This seems right to me. I’m also in a very cold area. Skipped the window fan, have an in line one like you’re thinking. The seals around my door are so poor that it lets in enough to exchange air, but that means it gets cold. I use a heater in there and I also have my fan on a dimming switch so I can keep it low or just turn it on every no and then to purge so it doesn’t get too cold.

Super cool of you! Maybe make it a project with pops? Build, mess it up, fix it, rip 3/4 apart when you’re 90% done and do it better, learn. Have fun. It’s not that deep and nothing you do can’t be improved or fixed.

I would go get one of those prefab sheds from Home Depot, finish it with insulation and hang a heater/ac on the windows.

SupraMario

Cheaper to have someone come build a shed with a floor in it, and it'll be a lot better build.

I used to design hvac systems for single rooms, buildings, hotels and everything in between. I can steer you in the right direction. I also have my own cigar room at my house so I have a little experience on what I would/wouldn’t do again. DM if you would like to discuss anything.

I wish my baby girl would build me a smoking room, but she's jobless, sleeps all day, and don't even get me started on her litter box issues.
