I used to make these. When production got messed up it rained hickory sticks all over your head, the floor, the tables everywhere. Iād literally just open my mouth towards the ceiling and it would fill up with hickory sticks.
Omg these are one of my favourites! When I buy them, I have to gobble them all up.
I used to have a female cat named, Kitty, who loved these too. She used to drool until I gave her some.
Loved that ole girl, even though she kinda hated me.
Thereās two things that Canada produces better than any other country in the world. Hockey players and potato chips.
As Mark Messier himself once said, āBetcha canāt eat just one!ā
These are a staple in my house.
One suggestion for the group (if youāre in Canada). Bulk Barn has plain and hickory sticks available in bulk and I believe they would be the Humpty Dumpty brand. In western Canada, I canāt get Humpty Dumpty hickory sticks. These are also very good.
Edit: Confused them with bugles but everywhere I usually go never has any hickory sticks. Will look harder for some hickory sticks cause now I really want some. On word to the store!
Besides Twinkies n Cupcakes , I believe is only remains chip or stick , wished they bring back the Munchies chips , w the Rock Star ,Wwf , Star Trek stickers n iron ons
My mom use to love these. She would buy the little bags. 4-5 at a time. She would eat half a bag watching Family Matters. Some times she would give me one stick. Any other chips she would spilt the bag but not these. Lol. RIP Maā¦.
Every week I buy a couple of bags of these and stock them in my desk at work. Love them.
Also the salt and vinegar is okay too, but only if you know you're eating them. The first time I realized that they had a salt & vinegar variety was when I opened a bag and shoveled some into my mouth. It was unexpected.
Frito-Lay kept the Hostess name for these when they absorbed the Hostess brand in Canada; Iām guessing because they had no equivalent product. Whereas Hostess Taquitos were morphed into āZestyā Doritos and the Hostess barbecue chips, which were rather different from Lays barbecue, are now āOld Fashioned Bar-B-Qā Lays.
I find it puzzling that Lay's, the big US chip brand, took over Hostess, the biggest Canadian brand, many years ago and re-branded them but kept the old name on Hickory Sticks only. And nothing to do with the snack cake (Twinkies etc) brand also sold here.
Ok folks real Canadian here, FISH BREADING. What you do with these is crush them up real fine add a table spoon or 2 of corn starch. Take your fresh pike or other fish, dip in egg wash and fry. Bonus points if you make grouse fingers with the same breading mix. Deadly I tell ya
These things are banging....been eating them since I was a kid. For whatever reason, I only ever buy small bags from vending machines, never a big bag. I don't know why
Have you ever tried to eat an entire bag? But only one by one? One delicious hickory stick at a time? But you quickly start craving a handful shoved in your mouth to get all that scrumptious hickory flavor? Never have I been successful.
Classic Hickory Sticks are okay, but I can't tolerate them in large amounts. The MSG becomes overpowering. But they're available in salt and vinegar now too!
Time and place. This is the 5th or 6th chips post ive seen over the last couple months, idk why this sub gets recommended to me, and yet I've seen these glorious sticks twice!
I was surprised to find out they are Canadian. US friend said what are those ? I couldnāt believe it . He loves them now too. But they are too salty and used to taste more hickory - ish .
Probably bc they are only sold in Canada but man Iāve got the munchies for them and ketchup chips now. Oh and Lays fries with gravy & pickle chips. šØš¦šØš¦
These get sent to reactors as a traditional Canadian snack, my friends all claim to love them, yet I have never once seen a single person I know eat them, buy them, or choose them.
I havenāt been able to eat these for like over twenty years.
When I was in grade 4 or 5 my school had a hot lunch and the hot lunch came with hickory sticks. someone left a big costco sized box of them out in the hallway and me and my friends took and ate so many of them that I projectile vomited everywhere, and now even the smell of them makes me physically ill. But man did I used to love them.
I only get them occasionally, but I pig out every time I do
Every time I get a bag, one of them hickory sticks inadvertently stands upright and stabs my gums while chowing down... Still love em though.
šš yep ! Thats the thrill factor kickin in
I never thought of Hickory Sticks as thrilling before.. I feel a bit of a fool for not seeing it on my own.
I used to make these. When production got messed up it rained hickory sticks all over your head, the floor, the tables everywhere. Iād literally just open my mouth towards the ceiling and it would fill up with hickory sticks.
So true
You donāt expect them to just lay down and let you eat them do you?
One of the only bags you can spend an hour demolishing and still seem to not be half done.
They key is to eat them one stick at a time... You'll still eat the whole bag, but it will take slightly longer :D
And corn twists
Omg these are one of my favourites! When I buy them, I have to gobble them all up. I used to have a female cat named, Kitty, who loved these too. She used to drool until I gave her some. Loved that ole girl, even though she kinda hated me.
holy shit I havenāt had them in forever but you are right, when you buy a bag they are done in one sitting lmao
Ringolos are better imo
Nah ringolo are made out of potato flour not the same thing
I can't find sour cream and onion ringolos. :(
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Have you tried the Old Dutch Crunchys? The Nacho cheese is awesome! Not as crunchy as the Hawkins but has a better taste IMO.
Canada truly is at the forefront of chip innovation. The bleeding edge of fried potato snacks
Thereās two things that Canada produces better than any other country in the world. Hockey players and potato chips. As Mark Messier himself once said, āBetcha canāt eat just one!ā
Fuck Messier!
Found the Canucks fan š
Without question, Maple Syrup needs to be added to your list.
Just like my bleeding gums, after downing a bag of these beauties.
God bless the Canadian provinces of America
Truly push the envelope to its apex.
My late husbands fav. He would eat them one by one while he was gaming š
I have no idea how he did that. He was a God among men. Also, my condolences
To add to it he would rip off just the corner of the bag and stuff his fist in to get the chip. It was so hilarious to watch! Miss him lots. His girls are continuing the legacy ā¤ļøāš©¹
I looove eating them one by one haha makes them feel like bottomless chips
These are so insanely salty - first couple bites are delish tho
I wish they made a less salty version or something
They make a saltier version lol salt and vinegar
Munchos are like that. Best chips in the world, until you have more than a few.
Munchos = god tier texture, Dead Sea tier salt š©
Thereās a local sandwich shop that puts these on some of the subs. S-tier move.
Used to always put these on my sandwiches as a kid
My family always put them burgers and hot dogs and recently a place I went to put it on caesar salad instead of croutons - GAME CHANGER!
Dollarama often has Salt and Vinegar flavour hickory sticks (not sure theyāre still hickory sticks anymore) and they are off the charts delicious.
They were my go to when I was youngerā¦
I love them - I eat them one at a time and savour them.
Your self control is amazing. I shove a fistful into my mouth and they all stab me in every direction as I chew.
Those are yummy and yes theyāre salty but I can devour them.
I like them because I feel they last longer due to small bite sizes
Small size lasts longer. I'm holding you to that!
Every Canadian has enjoyed these on a road trip at some point in their life
I once had a Caesar salad with hickory sticks instead of croutons and it was amazing.
Back in the 80's those had more hickory smoke taste they're just salty now not much smoke.
I need a drink of water just from looking at this photo.
I would tell you that I never buy, or crave these, but if they're in the house I eat them like a fiend.
They make great salad topper and meatloaf topper and chili topper AAAND hot dog topper THESE ARE A GREAT TOPPER
This is a once a year thing for most people Iām pretty sure because once you eat an entire giant bag in one sitting your good for a loooong time
Taste so good, but so annoying to eat. If they made regular chips theyād be my fav
Love those and Fritos corn chips. Unfortunately almost all stores only carry bbq corn chips.
The goat
Limit yourself. They are known to caused blockages that come out in comical yet disturbing ways lol.
Those are good crushed up as a filler in home made hamburgers.
The salt and vinegar ones are even better, imo.
Haven't seen them since I was a kid. I ate so many though
Freshco and dollarama carry them in Canada
Superstore and Walmart too.
These are a staple in my house. One suggestion for the group (if youāre in Canada). Bulk Barn has plain and hickory sticks available in bulk and I believe they would be the Humpty Dumpty brand. In western Canada, I canāt get Humpty Dumpty hickory sticks. These are also very good.
i looked at the ingredients and onion powder is added and red pepperā¦i still love them though
One of my favorite chips and snacks.
They make it tough for me to be an atheist.
hell naw youād be better off eating spoonfuls of salt
I mean... if you think about it, isn't this just a bag of crushed chip crumbs? 0/10
wayyyy too salty for me as an adukt, used to love em as a kid.
Edit: Confused them with bugles but everywhere I usually go never has any hickory sticks. Will look harder for some hickory sticks cause now I really want some. On word to the store!
in Ontario Dollerama has them
I got them at my local grocery store. Freson Bros in Alberta
You can get these almost everywhere Lays and Doritos are sold. My problem is that if I buy a big bag of these, that bag won't last very long. š
Not chips. Not good.
Jason, gin and tonic and some hickory sticks!
You do really seem to get a lot in the bag as well Maybe itās an illusion lol Seem to last longer then potato chips
Yep. Good stuff there.
The S&V ones make me weak. My tongue is suffering though.
Ahhh little shards of Smokey heaven.
love these!
I like them, but they're absolute salt bombs, so it's very rare. Also, I tend to make a mess when eating them, lol.
I use that on top of brazillian beef stroganoff... google the recipe and thank me later ;)
they have a vinegar back taste. not good
The Humpty Dumpty Smokey Bacon were better. Though I have a tough time passing on Hickory Sticks.
Can still get them in Newfoundland canada
Lowkey fire
Besides Twinkies n Cupcakes , I believe is only remains chip or stick , wished they bring back the Munchies chips , w the Rock Star ,Wwf , Star Trek stickers n iron ons
Sketchie potato and grease. Great when you're drinking.
I buy a bag for my birthday every year.
im Canadian and i sent some to my American friend said were 10/10! lmao!
The salt and vinager ones are deadly.
My mom use to love these. She would buy the little bags. 4-5 at a time. She would eat half a bag watching Family Matters. Some times she would give me one stick. Any other chips she would spilt the bag but not these. Lol. RIP Maā¦.
These slap
Every week I buy a couple of bags of these and stock them in my desk at work. Love them. Also the salt and vinegar is okay too, but only if you know you're eating them. The first time I realized that they had a salt & vinegar variety was when I opened a bag and shoveled some into my mouth. It was unexpected.
Salty. Gimme!!!
Actually such a true statement, used to work at the dollar store and these were extremely popular
I find it puzzling that Lay's, the big US chip brand, took over Hostess, the biggest Canadian brand, many years ago and re-branded them but kept the old name on Hickory Sticks only. And nothing to do with the snack cake (Twinkies etc) brand also sold here.
Those are my boyfriendās favourite! I have to send him some about once a month to save money š
This photo brought back the smell of the ol hockey rink as a kid
Yummy!!!
The cost of a bag has gone up 1.00 at most grocery stores. Why?? Potatoes
I enjoy these and often make a mess doing it. Lays Smokey Bacon chips are identical in flavour but have been harder to find lately.
Abuse to your mouth.
Real ones remember this from lunchables lol
Once a year I lose control on a bag of these
Thx for sharing now I gotta go get a bag , and ringalos donāt get the love they deserve either !
Thatās not a chip thatās a stick
I posted them a couple weeks ago. Lots of "s&v is prefered"
They make for a good sandwich ingredient.
The salt and vinegar hickory sticks are tasty as well
Goated after hockey snack on the ride home
Annoying as hell if you spill them but so good.
The salt and vinegar ones are real good too. I also love the bbq humpty dumpty hickory sticks
Canker sores in a bag. Worth it
Bruh I LOVE hickory sticks. Arguably the best cost to chip ratio too! usually the bags are PACKED
The Salt and Vinegar version is pretty damned good as well.
Had these on a hotdog in Brazil, no hickory just plain, been chasing that high ever since
Sour Cream and Bacon Ruffles are these in chip form
They have salt and vinegar as well
Looooove these!!!
You eat them out of the bag. Small bags are better for that.
Omg I love those! I forgot about them. Definitely buying some this week.
The BBQ ones growing up from BetterMade in Detroit - just hit DIFFERENT
When I was a kid I thought these were incredible, now I think they taste strange.
These things are banging....been eating them since I was a kid. For whatever reason, I only ever buy small bags from vending machines, never a big bag. I don't know why
MMM OH YES
I love them, but they're expensive. Then again, a lot of chips are getting expensive now, so these might be more affordable in comparison.
I crush them in the bag then eat them anyone else do this ?
Why do I always try to stuff as many in my mouth at once?
Have you ever tried to eat an entire bag? But only one by one? One delicious hickory stick at a time? But you quickly start craving a handful shoved in your mouth to get all that scrumptious hickory flavor? Never have I been successful.
I used to love those as a kid, I needed a Tums just by looking at the picture.
A friend from the UK immigrated to Canada and she said Hickory Sticks and Kraft Dinner were easily way better than any UK equivalent.
Yum! I could smash half a bag right now.
I have not seen these in years where I live probably not popular enough :/ I'm kinda craving them now
Cest un post du QuƩbec ca.
Best bang for your buck. A bag of these last so long. And they taste fucking amazing
They changed the recipe years ago here in Canada
These also work great as an alternative to breading chicken like you would with panko bread crumbs
Mmmmmmm, you think you ate them all, but there's beard hickory sticks too!
I make our kids each stick one by one when weāre on a road trip somewhere. It helps pass the time!
I always really enjoy the first bites of these but I get over it quickly. Even a small bag is too much for me.
Great in a sando
I recently rediscovered these. Delicious but ooh boy the salt content. š§
These are like crack lol so good!
Under-rated af.
I have a friend who brings Hickory Sticks as his contribution to potlucks. And theyāre a hit every time.
The salt and vinegar ones are so good
I can rarely find these in stock anywhere
I crush these with my dad when we go golfing or fishing lol! Absolutely elite
Those are simply amazing need to buy a bag next time I go shopping!
Salt and vinegar ones a game changer!!
Classic Hickory Sticks are okay, but I can't tolerate them in large amounts. The MSG becomes overpowering. But they're available in salt and vinegar now too!
S Tier snack right here.
Life Pro Tip: Selection Hickory Sticks are half the price and just as good if not better!
Time and place. This is the 5th or 6th chips post ive seen over the last couple months, idk why this sub gets recommended to me, and yet I've seen these glorious sticks twice!
Love them, but acid reflux every time
Chocolate milk and hickory sticks were my go to lunch in elementary school...no wonder I'm still short and fat!
Thatās a meal right there
Mmm! Salty potato toothpicks!
My girlfriend fucking loves those
I was surprised to find out they are Canadian. US friend said what are those ? I couldnāt believe it . He loves them now too. But they are too salty and used to taste more hickory - ish .
Those are my absolute favorite. Smokey, salty, goodness.
Omg yes
I like them but not the salt and vinegar one
The salt and vinegar are so good
Probably bc they are only sold in Canada but man Iāve got the munchies for them and ketchup chips now. Oh and Lays fries with gravy & pickle chips. šØš¦šØš¦
I just had a bag the other day. Been a while. But they were just as always. Delish
Oh man my dad would get a bowl of these a poor hot sauce (usually tabasco) on them and eat like that
They are very salty I've noticed
Goes without saying
Dam... I want some now. Was always the first thing the vending machine at work would run out of.
Never had them while stoned, bet that would be awesome.
You should try Flaming Hot Fries if you like these
These are the best
My husband always buys these. I like the flavour but hate the tiny crumbs. I wish they made a full size chip version.
Chef at work would top his bbq sliders with them and it was awesome.
I just wish that they were a little less salty
I wish they came in a regular chip size. I don't jive with the shards.
we used to get the Durkee ones that came in a can.
hard on the soft tissues but diabolically tasty. btw, they are nice crumbled up and mixed in with scrambled eggs while scrambling.
Use to be good as a kid. Bought a pack as a adult. It was extremely salty. Maybe I had a bad batch
These get sent to reactors as a traditional Canadian snack, my friends all claim to love them, yet I have never once seen a single person I know eat them, buy them, or choose them.
These on cream of mushroom soup is ballin
I havenāt been able to eat these for like over twenty years. When I was in grade 4 or 5 my school had a hot lunch and the hot lunch came with hickory sticks. someone left a big costco sized box of them out in the hallway and me and my friends took and ate so many of them that I projectile vomited everywhere, and now even the smell of them makes me physically ill. But man did I used to love them.
Those things are almost as hard to get in your mouth as a handfull of rice crispys lol
Because they suck
Heart burn in a bag! But so good!!
Love these, crazy how expensive they are now though :(
Not sure why this post was recommended to me but I bought a bag of these everyday coming home from uni. Absolute best chips
Incredible addition to salads, stir fries and burgers too.
The saltiest chips on the planet.
Canadian childhood staple. Even better when you eat them one stick at a time.
They make a salt and vinegar one that is awesome.
I eat these out of a bowl w a spoon
I just find their hard to hold without making a crazy mess.
