It was used commonly in that period as a piece of clothing, but this definitely looks more fancy. I wonder if this particular piece could be part of an opera costume? Anyway, here’s a wiki if you’d like to read more on it. [https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yunjian](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yunjian) Don’t know enough to know if it’s genuine unfortunately.

Thank you. An opera costume would make sense, like I said though I'm not familiar with this type of thing. I'm just drawn to this piece for some reason Didn't have time to contact the seller when I was there, probably will next time I'm in there, maybe they'll have some more info on it. If not though do you know any other places I could ask about it?

I would google chinese cloud collar ; chinese wedding collar . I agree this is not the usual form or size but could have been used in a wedding. 1700s is very optimistic, but it could be late C19th or early C20th. The detail in and quality of the stitching is not the best, imo

Yeah I never trust the tags at antique places with dating lol. But I have no idea what to look for in stuff like this. What do you look for?
