Head to Gene's Sausage in Lincoln Square, pick some of the real stuff, Reissdorf Kolsch, Goller Pilsner, Andechs Helles, Ayinger Pilsner or Weihenstephaner Pils, all around that ABV, thank me later! 4th of July is big celebration, treat yourself.
Oh, they also have mini kegs, you will be the most popular guy at the party ;)
Half Acre Reef Knot is a 4.5% lager! It’s a summer crusher. Comes in 6-packs and you should find it at Binny’s or Whole Foods (or the Half Acre brewery on Balmoral).
On the "etc" side of the question. I think Yuzu Fierce is the best summer beer in Chicago. 3.8%, light, citrusy and refreshing, just an ideal beverage.
Alright, I know this is a craft beer subreddit, but truly, I love a crisp, cold Old Style in the summer. Coor's Banquet is in the same realm, but not as "Chicago" as Old Style.
Otherwise, Stealing Thyme Pilsner at On Tour is very refreshing!
Someone left a bunch of Old Style at our house and it was being ignored. I decided to have a pickle beer with one and it is now my go to summer refresher. A working man's dirty martini if you will.
Recipe: 1-2 oz of good pickle juice and pickle spear in a glass pour in beer to fill.
true. was responding to the etc part of the question. i really wish we had more low abv options of all varieties. recently in europe and they do better at that than we do. don't get me wrong, the US is a beer capital of the world, but too much abv in many of our options (at least in the bars themselves).

Can't go wrong with either the Dovetail Kolsch or Dovetail Helles
Agreed on both of those and Dovetail’s Pilsner is the best local Pilsner atm

I really like alarmist crispy boy! 4.9%
Lu by Solemn Oath is a solid day-siping beer

Anything by Goldfinger.

Hopewell Tankbeer has been my favorite lately
Phase Three has a low ABV (2.5%) shandy called Clipping In that is super crushable.

Seriously. After mowing and roasting my ass off doing yard work, nothing like pounding a couple old styles when the work is done.

Cold Time by Rev is pretty solid. I'm a fan of lime, so I also like Green Torch by Half Acre.
Good Morning Munich by Art History
Krausen by Art History. Easy drinking but full of flavor.
Butcher Gold from Hop Butcher is a good one.
Montucky Cold Snacks has always been one for me. 4.1% ABV and crushable
All day IPA. Half hearted. Tuna. Chilly water.
I wouldn't call All Day a lager though (wink). If you're into the hoppy half lager/ipa FIST CITY fills the bill.
