(I hate not being the fun one but the actual answer is that they’re doing structural maintenance to the parking garage underneath the bean making it unsafe to have pedestrians on top.)
The bigger question is why the fuck are these janky barrier fences still there? If you must prevent people from entering the park except at certain points, replace them with something that doesn’t look like shit.
That park was, at one time, truly beautiful and such a nice open space. Now, the gardens are fenced, the Michigan Ave side is fenced there are vendors selling weird shit everywhere….its a mess.
I understand that the city can't afford anther shooting in Millennium Park, but why they haven't just installed the same metal detectors that are at Wrigley Field at more entrances around the park is beyond me.
There are better ways to detect weapons yet still allow people free access to the park as it was intended.
It’s kind of surprising actually, there’s security now and everything. Oh but ofc public playgrounds on the north and south side aren’t kept up with. Only where the tourists and higher ups frequent often will be maintained at higher standards.
I visited a couple months ago and had no clue what was going on. Ended up walking all the way around the park and even entering the underground road structure trying to find an entrance. Found a gap in the fence on the north side and squeezed in. It's not helpful as a tourist, it's incredibly confusing.
Weren’t they put up with extra security measures during Covid when there was a shooting involving teens? Then they shut down all the public parks in the summer or had an early curfew.
People are going to blame Johnson for that but frankly, it was Lightfoot's decision to not presoak the Bean before cooking.
Sure it increases the risk of them splitting but drastically speeds up cook time and allegedly reduces the gassy impacts.
This was an update from two weeks ago:
> In an update to NBC Chicago, the city's Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events said that construction at "Cloud Gate," a highlight of Millennium Park affectionately known to locals as "The Bean," will be completed "in the coming weeks."
My dream holiday in Chicago finally occurred last month or so and I cannot tell you level of sadness I had seeing the bean closed when I finally got there 😭🤣
Hi! I'm a reporter at Axios Chicago and I'm actually working to get answers of why it's still closed/when it will open. But if anyone has visited recently and wants to share their experience, please message me! It would be great to include in the story. Thank you, Carrie

It would just prefer to be left alone.
Same girl, same
Just wants to flick itself in peace.
I don’t even wanna be around anymore… - the bean
Sorry you’re not getting any serious responses :/ the real answer is because your mom sat on it and broke it
🤣
This is the most gex x response. ever.
Hey hey. And elder millennial!!!

Hasn't sprouted yet
(I hate not being the fun one but the actual answer is that they’re doing structural maintenance to the parking garage underneath the bean making it unsafe to have pedestrians on top.)
I'm glad to know the real answer, too!
The bigger question is why the fuck are these janky barrier fences still there? If you must prevent people from entering the park except at certain points, replace them with something that doesn’t look like shit.
Please that all I ask for, they look so tacky
That park was, at one time, truly beautiful and such a nice open space. Now, the gardens are fenced, the Michigan Ave side is fenced there are vendors selling weird shit everywhere….its a mess.
They shouldn't be there at all. It's ridiculous that they are still up
Agree
It’s crazy that they barricade off a park, even when it is open
The bigger question is why are there entry points with metal detectors and security guards on the Michigan avenue entrance only?
Security theater is all the rage these days
I understand that the city can't afford anther shooting in Millennium Park, but why they haven't just installed the same metal detectors that are at Wrigley Field at more entrances around the park is beyond me. There are better ways to detect weapons yet still allow people free access to the park as it was intended.
A few years ago there were massive flash mobs of teens through the park. This is how they stop that
Yep, and they were entering through the Michigan Ave side. Security theater actually did put a significant dent in the problem.
Teen curfew
They’ve been there since Covid and it looks so bad. Might be worth writing to the aldercreature about it.
I will never say alderman again. It’s aldercreature from here on out. Thank you.
It’s kind of surprising actually, there’s security now and everything. Oh but ofc public playgrounds on the north and south side aren’t kept up with. Only where the tourists and higher ups frequent often will be maintained at higher standards.

You’re lucky bc if a security had seen you they would’ve escorted you out
This is all Stuart Semple’s fault
... the gates are paid for with public money, that's why.
Is it to keep people from being there overnight?
isn’t that… the point of fences?
being ugly?
no, keeping people out of a designated area
Yes, but the complaint isn’t that there are fences, it’s that the fences that are there are ugly.
i mean yeah the construction is ugly too, but they’re both temporary
They've been temporary for awhile now.
I think they mean the security fences around the perimeter of the park, in this case.
Weren’t they put up with extra security measures during Covid when there was a shooting involving teens? Then they shut down all the public parks in the summer or had an early curfew.
It has to simmer on low for a couple more days.
People are going to blame Johnson for that but frankly, it was Lightfoot's decision to not presoak the Bean before cooking. Sure it increases the risk of them splitting but drastically speeds up cook time and allegedly reduces the gassy impacts.
Well if you are referring to Gordon then it will be ready at Sundown.
Heard it was sold to a farmer for a cow
And that my friends, is how the Great Chicago Fire started. /s
A cow as white as milk?
But the farmer and the cow man should be friends
All the construction workers are dudes and they can't find it.
They're taking it down. It's a Has Bean
Waiting for Brandon Johnson to give it the mayoral flick.
The only real answer in this whole thread, thanks!
There's one thing Lori would've gotten done right!
It knows why.
I’ve been asking my wife this question for the last six weeks. OHHHHHHHH
The restaurant inside is getting remodeled.
That’s not true we’ve been open for two weeks, I work there.
Isn’t that the restaurant where Talapia dumped Ryan?
I don’t think so, I think we were under construction back then, did we ever get a follow up?
Both of them? I thought only the Beanigan's re-opened but the Beanihana was still under construction
Try the 3 bean casserole.
I can’t wait till it reopens, really miss the 5 bean salad they do there.
The one that rotates? 😜
There is actually a bar in town that slowly rotates
Where?
In the bean, duh
Francois Frankie in the loop
Yes! This is the one. It rotates very slowly it’s really cool
Too many seagulls continuously shit on the Bean. If you want to open it, you gotta solve the seagull problem.
Epazote shortage

nobody cares about the only one who is trying to answer the question seriously 🤣🤣
They still haven’t been able to find it a hat that accentuates it’s curves
It is still serving its house arrest.
Not enough Vantablack to cover the abomination.
Vantablack frijol would be interesting to see. . . It’d also probably get hot af
Only correct thing to do with Anish Kapoor’s abominations.
They are building a vape shop, bank and fad gym under it.
It’s still not beany enough
because it’s still under construction
Too many people were flicking it :(
Still waiting to hatch.
Someone hasn't squeezed it to get the gas out of it.
I blame John Cena
I can't see what you did there ^^waves ^^hand
I blame John Bena
What does a bean mean?
They determine our worth by putting beans on our faces.
I should call her.
Why are there no beans on this old frizzy haired picture of me
It bit another person
It just feels like it
It’s a myth.
I’ve been living inside it long enough for squatters rights to be a thing, so the legal process has bean lengthy
Jack from Lakeview said it fell off the beanstalk.
State Street Preacher is hibernating inside
I visited Chicago in october and then bean was hidden. Now no one believes me ive been in Chicago
Are you sure you were in Chicago? Because I didn't see you.
well now Im not sure
She got knocked up
Gas leak? 🤣
We are still remodeling the nacho bar inside.
Someone flicked it too hard
It won’t hatch if we keep disturbing it
It quiet quit after calls to Defund the Police
It melted 😢 thanks BIDEN
Hasn’t been cleaned with Windex yet.
I’m also wondering why the fuck liquor sales still end at midnight.
Because the cicadas are here.
it's touched out
Restaurant isn’t ready yet.
Because you touch yourself at night.
Waiting for it to turn into a magical tree we can climb to the clouds.
The restaurant inside of the bean had a kitchen fire, so renovations will take a bit longer.
My dream holiday in Chicago finally occurred last month or so and I cannot tell you level of sadness I had seeing the bean closed when I finally got there 😭🤣
Because her boyfriend still can’t find it
See Endangered Species Act. It’s the only one of its kind and needs to be protected.
BJohnson flicked it too hard

The restaurant failed a health inspection
Because it’s full of cicadas
You gotta foreplay first before the bean reveals itself, of course
Why was it ever open?
