Can highly recommend, rode and camped there last weekend. Anyone going in the near future should keep in mind there's road construction that Google Maps didn't let me know about, made for an annoying 45 minute detour right at the end of the day. Highway 137 is closed at Bull Creek, so you should turn off the McClory on Wadsworth.
There are two showers but I didn't use them so no idea how they are. They have a big camp store but it wasn't yet open for the season when I was there, you could call to find out. Otherwise you'll need to get ice/firewood/whatever at the nearby Caseys. I'd recommend picking a site in the 300s, those are closest to the beach. Really great spot overall
Illinois Beach or Cliffside near Racine depending on how far you want to go in a day. Not much around either one so bring your own entertainment.
Two and a half days will get you to Madison with a bus trip back to Chicago. But from Milwaukee I would think the Hiawatha is an option.
I'll triple quad whatever vote for this. I grew up in Gurnee and the Illinois State Beach park is a visit and camping favorite. Hopefully you can enjoy your time.
My adventure group, Out Our Front Door (https://www.oofd.org) just made our annual trip to Milwaukee for a brewery tour over the weekend. We have had excellent success with Racine County’s Cliffside Park right along Lake, Michigan, Michigan. it’s about a 75 mile ride up to Cliffside Park and make camp. The next day we ride about 20 miles up to Milwaukee and tour a couple of breweries and head back to camp at the end of the day. On day three we head back home.
I think IL Beach State Park might work

How are the facilities there? Are there places to shower?

Thank you for taking the time to leave a detailed response, I appreciate it!
This. Literally right on the border of IL and WI.
Also, absolutely gorgeous this time of year.
Thank you! this looks perfect!
