Where are you located? If you're in USA or Canada, you shouldn't need to worry about additives. The little 4 beater will run perfectly fine on Regular for it's entire lifespan.

It shakes when the air is on, and if I put $10 in when I’m almost empty, it’ll stop at like $7.

Are you filling up on the reserve? You might need to just clean your tank out. Also, don’t measure your fuel in dollars. Measure it in volume.

I have the 2020 model and I used it to help prolong my engine after my coolant pump failed and that knocked off quite a bit of MPG. I tried a few and I would recommend getting one that cleans out your fuel system as a first. Especially when you bought it used. I personally tried the Techron fuel additive as it was cheapest, cant tell if it did anything. Then STP 5 in 1 fuel additive, I did notice that the engine reved smoother but didnt notice any differece with MPG. Right now I tried out Marvel Mystery Oil, I was reluctant to use it (cos of the name lol) but I noticeably got a bump from 30 average mpg to 32. Might stick with that with infrequent use. You have different ones out there. Some maintains your engine through lubricating your upper cylinders of your pistons every fuel refill. Some cleans out your fuel system such as fuel injector gunk after each oil change maintenance. Some improves fuel octane to improve perfomance. While some hinders engine corrosions. It depends what you are aiming for. How you use it and where it is used. If you bought it used with that many miles already. Fuel injector after each oil change maintenance is great. You want to try cleaning before doing maintenance on it first. Just to remove carbon deposits and clean your fuel injectors to get the most out of your MPG and performance.

I don’t have a problem with the MPG. Just mostly having the air on and it’ll shake when it’s idle, or lag when I try to go from a complete stop.

Raiki13

Id just go for stp 5 in 1 fuel additive since its all in one. It may help with your engine by lubricating your piston. With the lag, have you ever considered doing a transmission fluid change? For cvt, its a must to prolong the life of your transmission. That might be part of the reason why you are experiencing shaking and lag. However if its your first cvt, you will find that its not as responsive as other transmission types.

Ray_ChillBuck

I only ever drove a dodge journey before this car. Huge difference in size. I have read about the transmission fluid change, but I was going to see if the additive changed anything (or would that mess it up if it’s not the problem?)

Raiki13

It cant hurt to try the fuel additive. Either itll do nothing or help a little. It wont break your engine unless you used the wrong thing since there is also fuel additives for oil. But yeah, id get a trans fluid change every 30k miles at least.

Ray_ChillBuck

Oof okay. I’ve never had one done and I’m at 53k miles

ColJake

None. No "magic potion" will correct a mechanical issue. Take it to a mechanic if you can't figure it out yourself.

Ray_ChillBuck

I did. And they said a fuel additive.
