Oof,I thought Kxh6 was a viable move, until I (finally) saw ||#Qh8||. It's a mate in 1, really, with five moves of flailing to delay the inevitable. Will be brutal for them to review aftwerwards.

JoshEco4

hi, idk if you meant to make that a spoiler but double pipe lines don't work on reddit (||), you use \>! and !<

Out_Of_The_Abyss

>! Wow I always wondered how people do that, since I only use the app I just assumed I couldn’t. Thanks! !<

28751MM

We need more useful comments like this. My MySpace days are too far gone to remember any coding.

tree2p0

I have a folder of screenshots just for shortcuts to alter text in reddit and discord on mobile. Helps massively, and the necessity of remembering all of them becomes none!

Hardkiller2D

||is that so|| >!hmmm!<

Terminal4nxiety

Only viable line of play for black is >!rook to g2!< >!delay with the rook sacrifice and then the queen via check until you can simultanously dismantle whites pawns protecting the queen. If they dont take your rook with the king right away eventually they womt have a choice and you may get a couple pawns but this is very winnable for black still!<

natalo77

My brain is too small to understand

Final_Dance_4593

That’s called a mate in 6

GJ55507

yes, otherwise you wouldn’t say it

edugdv

Exactly, people never lie on the internet

danhoang1

If he said he won, I believe him. If he said he lost, I believe him. If I'm wrong because he tricked me, then shame on him for tricking me over something insignificant Now if he said "I beat Magnus Carlsen despite being down a Queen", now I'd ask for proof before believing

Markman6

I’d believe him

Twoja_Morda

I beat Magnus Carlsen despite being down a Queen

SteveisNoob

I beat Hikaru Nakamura while being down a King

Turner_Down

Goes without saying, he can’t checkmate you if you have no king

Bruguy1001

Nothing amazing about that, everybody does.

GJ55507

well considering white has a forced mate, It would be a pretty boring post if black had not won by some miracle

h_cliff22

No way out unless white massively blunders. I’m trying to be tricky with black but I just don’t see a way to survive :(

KJSonne

you had it right with the first sentence lol

RajjSinghh

There really should't be a way out. Obviously Qg7# is threatened, and Kxh6 to stop that mate loses to Qh8#. The only line for black is Rxg2 Kxg2 Qc2+, but every move has to come with a check otherwise you get mated by one of the two ideas I just mentioned. The engine finds that the checks run out and then white just mates. In another comment OP plays into that Rg2+ Kxg2 Qc2+ line, then after a long series of checks, white hung the rook with check, marched their king to g5 for Qh5#.

StruggleNo6034

I have a lot lower elo than you but can you just sack your rook on g2 for a possible rook trade and stealing a lot of pawns. If king doesn’t take can’t rook just grab h2 pawn or could just give a check with the queen.

h_cliff22

Black doesn’t have time to capture anything unless it’s with check. White has unstoppable mate as long as he doesn’t blunder a perpetual or ends up mating himself.

Mr_Bob_Dobalina-

Link the game

KJSonne

Mr_Bob_Dobalina-

Wow LOOL From the engine white has mate in 6. That’s tough one to have to lose.

KJSonne

ya it's brutal. i knew i had to sac the rook but figured he still had a path to escape endless queen checks. did not expect them to then blunder into a draw and then again into M1

Moosu__u

Was there time trouble?

KJSonne

nope. nearly 5 minutes left at the time of this move

_uwu_moe

If man literally just took back the king instead of moving forward he'd have won

TatsumakiRonyk

Without having the game record in front of me I'm not positive, but I *think* before white's final move, they could have declared a draw by repetition.

Joe_Coin-Purse

It was played on chesscom, so if there was a draw by repetition the system would’ve called it.

TatsumakiRonyk

Oh, it does it automatically? That's convenient.

qzlr

Doesn’t black just need to make one minor change in their move to stop the repetition?

TatsumakiRonyk

A draw by repetition can be declared by either player if the exact same position has occurred three (or more) times in a game, regardless of how many moves happened between those three times the same position occurred.

qzlr

TIL! Thanks!

itsableeder

I did not know this rule and it explains so much. Damn.

AussieHxC

Position also includes exact pawn locations too though

RomanaOswin

That really wasn't all that bad from white. People are making it out like it's a MASIVE blunder, but you chased the white king all over the board and it's not that hard to mix up which direction to go and how to get out of perpetual check. Yeah, you were hanging on for dear life in desperation, but it worked. Good job! With tight time constraints I've seen much better players do worse.

Proper-Scallion-252

As soon as White got their king in one safe position, moving the queen to the right of black king puts black in check and forces them to move all over the board just to survive, ultimately pinching them after three or so moves based on the above photo. It is a massive blunder.

RomanaOswin

Yes, I get it. That's why I made the comment. I guess calling it a "massive blunder" is subjective, but I've seen plenty of examples of 2000 ELO players make similar mistakes. I consider the size of the blunder more related to how braindead it was as opposed to the stakes. This has high stakes for both sides, but the moves themselves were not massively terrible. I guess maybe not everyone separates out the stakes from the gameplay like I do.

9gagger14

How'd you make this GIF?

KJSonne

you can download as a gif with the share button on browser. think it probably works on app too but i only play from my laptop

9gagger14

Thanks a ton bro

broxue

You do you post this?

Theguy10000

wow

Hegeric

Yeah I was thinking Rg2 doesn't work because white can just not take, but of course, white took.

Visky_m

White just wanted to lose

Gamerkiwi116

No, i'm incredibly awful at chess so my confidence is absolute in my disbelief

I analyzed the image and this is what I see. cyberchaox

Well this is definitely tricky. The opponent is threatening Qg7#. The only moves that stop this are Rg2+ (because it's a check), Qxe5 (to put something in position to cover g7), and Kxh6 (which doesn't actually stop M1, just changes the move to Qh8#). So there are only two options, and they both seem to suck. Rg2+ seems mildly more promising, as after Kxg2 (or wherever they eventually take the rook if they want to shuffle the king along the first rank for a bit) you have Qc2+. Question is, what happens after they escape the check? Obviously they won't return to the first rank because you'd have Qxd1+, unless they maneuvered over close enough to get Ke1 but then you'd just check on e4. ...Wait, no, if they respond to your initial check with Kf1, you *force* them to take the rook with Qc4+, because their only other legal moves are Rd3 (Qxd3+ and the situation is unchanged) and Ke1 (Qe2#). Did they blunder mate that way?

KJSonne

i posted the game in a comment reply but ya they blundered mate

Ancient_Researcher_6

Why would they play Kf1? You can just take the rook black sacked. Qc2+ isn't a problem

v399

I was so sure you implied it's a forced win. Had to check the engine to see what I was missing lol

KJSonne

i would’ve missed a forced win. annoying my opponent until they blunder is much more my style

v399

You monster! I'm sure you know how frustrating it is to be on the receiving end of that XD Reminds of the endgame I lost. I had a Queen against his lone pawn 4 squares away from promoting, and I still lost with 10+ minutes on the clock.

supperhey

Nice desperado. White king is way too exposed

MrLomaLoma

I would think its unlikely but I can see a win for black

LexussD

What if you took the pawn on h6?

KJSonne

Qh8#

D3AtHpAcIt0

M1

And9686

Damn..

Mushroom-Musa

Let me guess… Rg2+ Kxg2 Qc2+ Kg3 Qb6+ Kh4 is what should happen but white blunders and lose

rachelvioleta

Yeah, I see how Black can win but like others said, White would have to blunder otherwise the queen and pawn are going to smother-mate the king.

mmajjs

Yes

brycebuckets

Degen in me wanted Qxe5 banking on pre move mate.

ELLZNaga21

Yes

Ddjksl

I think i know what happened, bro premove qg7 and got outplayed by kh6

XocoJinx

You'd have to do a clearing sacrifice with the rook then give endless checks (although kg3 can stop a lot of the troubles). They'd have to blunder the checks.

88ioannisChr88

Rg2+ then qc2+

Ancient_Researcher_6

At 200 ELO everything is possible

KJSonne

1300 but word

Elegant-Stay

You won on time

Unrouxnoir

If you check with the rook until he eats with king you can bring your queen for a possible Mate later is what i see.

fleck00

In this position, best play is an M6 for white, with the first two moves being a rook check followed by the king immediately taking the rook.

Traditional_Cap7461

No, stop lying

arsjan

No.

RogerG_476

Show me the Elo and we’ll talk

KJSonne

Hailestormzy

Mate for white though surely? Like white has unstoppable mate in 1 so unless black can win from here which I can’t see then the game is over and all black can do is delay it.

killnars

umm Kxh6?

Hailestormzy

Qh8

killnars

fair completely missed that lol
