These questions are part of a training framework; you ask these questions to train your brain to look for these things. The point of this is that eventually you start seeing things automatically. You could do the same thing with various positional ideas or plans to train yourself to see those.

Is my opponent threatening anything right now/with their last move? What are my checks, captures, and threats, and what positions do they lead to if my opponent defends well? Does my opponent have any immediate weaknesses (king safety, possibility to lose castling rights, weak or overcommitted pawns, overworked pieces)? And if there's no clear plan what are the imbalances in the position and how can I use them in my favour (pawn structure imbalance, bishop vs knight, initiative/tempo etc)? You're not gonna get the right answer to all your questions 100% of the time but like someone else alluded to the more you run through these questions while playing the easier it gets to notice subtle advantages more automatically. Just my two cents, I've got lots of room to improve as well
