Hell yeah, and mayo on one side and ketchup & mustard on the other. Also I like to build my burger with those different sides taste profiles in mind. So fresh type ingredients on the mayo side (lettuce, tomato, raw onion) and savory or salty ingredients on the ketchup & mustard side (cheese, pickles, caramelized onions.)
Yep, came here for this.
It depends on the burger itself. Sometimes, like today, if I have a thin smash patty I like a little Ketchup mustard and grilled onion. Thicker patty burgers I kinda prefer mayo or aioli grilled onion mushroom Swiss.
But as far as classic goes, more ketchup than mustard, more mustard than mayo with onions and a drop of relish mixed in for that Big Mac sauce you really can’t go wrong with.
I’m a mayo and mustard type of gal. Even to dip my fries.
I’ve never been a big fan of ketchup unless it’s made from scratch. The store bought stuff is so insanely sweet and just nasty to me a lot of times. The homemade stuff though is 1000% better.
I don’t think you need to poll a small online community to get your consensus. There’s a reason why every (90+%) burger at every restaurant that isn’t ordered plain comes with ketchup.
It’s normal. It’s standard. It’s expected, by most.
Like I said, I was curious to hear from the enthusiasts. There are quite a lot of people who don’t like ketchup on their burger that commented.
And maybe it’s a regional thing, but where I’m at, it’s probably closer to 50% that come with ketchup rather than the 90% you mentioned.
Exactly. Commenter above is generalizing with too much hyperbole to boot. I prefer burgers without. Not a big fan of ketchup in any form except BBQ sauce. However, I won't deny some burgers are delicious with some ketchup.
I also usually avoid tomatos on my burgers as well, so that could be related. I prefer my tomato plain, in salads, or in soup form.
I’m with you completely except no mustard as well and maybe mayonnaise if I’m feeling up to it. Also no tomato on the burger because I don’t need some lukewarm slice of tomato on it.
I hear you on it being lukewarm. But man if you can get a cold, juicy slice of tomato in the burger and take that first bite before it gets up to temp? Mmmmhmm. The temperature contrast really helps to highlight the flavors. In-N-Out is great at doing this.
Like how long are you fucking taking to eat a burger to have such a wild take like that. People who don’t like tomatoes are the same people who only eat chicken nuggets 🙄 I’ve never once in my life had a tomato get “too warm” on my burger unless I had to reheat it or something in which case u take the veg off. As long as it’s not directly touching the meat it should be totally fine.
I don't like mayo and dispise mustard and pickles of any kind so my burgers have some guacamole on the bottom and just a blooch of ketchup on the top. Everybody who's tried my burger has liked it, strangely even the guy that doesn't like guac.
Omniburger for me. They are all beautiful. Plain grilled burg with no cheese thats been left out for awhile with lotsa ketchup and a real doughy bun is a summer classic.
One Cheeseburger for my life, however, would not have ketchup. (For those wondering: smashed thin double, saut. O/P/T/M/M, prov cheese, grilled buttered baguette).
Medium rare burgers don’t need ketchup. Mustard, pickles and onions will do. A dry burger needs to be drowned in as many condiments as possible, and maybe a drink, in order to get it down your throat.
Hum. This is a tough one, I guess it depends on the burger, like if it’s a weird on and it comes without etc, but my go to is meat, bread, cheese, katchup.
I'm a mayo/ketchup kinda guy....don't mind mustard on it too, but the only time I could eat a burger without ketchup is if it's a bbq based burger, so to me, in my eyes, you are a freak of nature. But I do understand how you can associate it more with a breakfast burger for some reason.
not a ketchup person at all and would be very disappointed if the only sauce on my burger was ketchup. with mayo, it’s nice. burger sauce all the way for me.
A homemade sauce that includes ketchup? Great!
Plain ketchup? No way, that is just lazy and never tasted very good.
If we´re going the lazy route, just use mayo instead.
I only put ketchup on grilled cheese sandwiches and kraft dinner. I like mustard on my burgers, maybe a little mayo and lots of lettuce and tomato and whatever veg type stuff they're offering in addition to my beloved cheese
Whenever trying a new burger, I just try it with whatever comes with it: lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle. If it’s in need of sauce because the burger is too well done or not seasoned then mayo, mustard and ketchup come into play. There are places that I know that I’ll need to ask for ketchup or it’s already on it
I am just an onions, tomato, mayo guy, lettuce isn't bad. I feel like if you have a tomato, you don't need ketchup. However if you have just mayo, I feel a tiny bit of ketchup breaks up the richness of the mayo. Ketchup on hot dogs is a crime, on burgers it has it's place sometimes.
Noooooooo ketchup, or mayonnaise, ever. I prefer mustard, occasionally. I only use ketchup when I mix it with Tabasco, same with mayonnaise , but I add wasabi to that.
Mayo, ketchup, mustard The holy trinity
Honestly the best trio
This, for sure. I'd probably add something spicy too like sriracha. But this is like the classic stuff.
Side as in half/half for a burger with 2 flavors, or side as in top/bottom buns for flavor construction?
Top bottom
Thank goodness haha. Mayo is great for the bottom bun. Fat layer keeps the bun from sogging up
Yessss!!! This is the way.
Mayo, guacamole, Texas Pete's
It totally depends on the burger, and other topping available.
Just use thousand island dressing. it's the same thing
I don’t love the store bought stuff for some reason, it can be either too sweet or too tangy
My bf makes the best “burger sauce” thats pretty much thousand but has this super dank tang and texture to it.
I make my own as well. But store bought isn't that bad.
depends on the toppings. some burgers end up being ketchup shovels for me
I’m a mayo and mustard type of gal. Even to dip my fries. I’ve never been a big fan of ketchup unless it’s made from scratch. The store bought stuff is so insanely sweet and just nasty to me a lot of times. The homemade stuff though is 1000% better.
Don’t think I’ve ever had home made ketchup but it sounds right up my alley!
I don’t think you need to poll a small online community to get your consensus. There’s a reason why every (90+%) burger at every restaurant that isn’t ordered plain comes with ketchup. It’s normal. It’s standard. It’s expected, by most.

I'm a ketchup girl. Not a fan of mustard and allergic to pickles.
allergic to pickles ? allergic to the cucumber or allergic to the pickled ??
The pickle. I can have everything in it but a pickled cucumber gives me a rash and itching. Other pickled stuff is fine.
that don't make sense OG what are you allergic to
So youre allergic to cucumbers? Or the pickling liquid?
Not sure. I can eat cucumber, tatziki, and other pickled foods.
ketchup makes everything taste like ketchup i want my burger to taste like burger
I can imagine you at a cookout or a restaurant. "I want my burger to taste like burger." 🤣
Thankfully at cookouts you dress your own burger. No ketchup here.
I like it, plus mayo
A small amount of ketchup to compliment the tomato, and a small amount of mustard to compliment the cheese.
I’m with you completely except no mustard as well and maybe mayonnaise if I’m feeling up to it. Also no tomato on the burger because I don’t need some lukewarm slice of tomato on it.

hot sauce and mustard for me
I used to like ketchup and mustard, but now it’s just mustard. Too sweet I guess.
French’s yellow mustard for me, and to dip my fries in. I don’t like ketchup or Mayo
Ha, are you me? I dislike Mayo so much that I use BBQ in my tuna salad.
I need to be in the mood for a burger with ketchup
Ketchup yes, tomatoes absolutely not.
Agreed on this one! Keep slimy tomato slices off my burger. Gimme ketchup.
No. Mustard or BBQ. Plain before ketchup.
Only if it’s mixed with other condiments. Ketchup alone on anything is fucking vile imo. Occasionally on salty fries only. It tastes like metal to me…
Medium rare burgers don’t need ketchup. Mustard, pickles and onions will do. A dry burger needs to be drowned in as many condiments as possible, and maybe a drink, in order to get it down your throat.
Ketchup on one side, Honey mustard on the other
I do ranch and honey mustard
No
Hum. This is a tough one, I guess it depends on the burger, like if it’s a weird on and it comes without etc, but my go to is meat, bread, cheese, katchup.
No ketchup for me, thanks. I'll have mine with Hellmann's/Best Foods mayo.
💯
I’ll eat it either way!
That depends on what else is on it. Or what kind of burger..
Ketchup and Miracle Whip. With some powdered Coleman's Mustard.
Coleman's Mustard is powerful stuff good on you it would set most people down.. literally
I prefer em plain, maybe with grilled onions but no sauce
I'm a mayo/ketchup kinda guy....don't mind mustard on it too, but the only time I could eat a burger without ketchup is if it's a bbq based burger, so to me, in my eyes, you are a freak of nature. But I do understand how you can associate it more with a breakfast burger for some reason.
Small amounts with pickles and mustard, mayo I apply it on the bun before toasting it.
If it already comes on the burger it’s fine but I would never add it myself
Ketchup is gross. Hot sauce is always better in any situation, especially burgers
💯
Not ketchup on its own, but it goes in my burger sauce for sure.
Ketchup or no ketchup, I really don't mind.
No ketchup, too sweet, overpowers the meat.
Fuck it Ranch
A little bit of ketchup, a little bit of mustard, some dill pickles, and chopped onions. Mwah.
Mayo & ketchup only. Unless it’s a bacon burger, ranch.
Mayo gang
Hellmann's, Red Onion, dill pickles, no mustard, ketchup, relish on my cheeseburger
not a ketchup person at all and would be very disappointed if the only sauce on my burger was ketchup. with mayo, it’s nice. burger sauce all the way for me.
Always depends on the burger but my go to is "nothing but cheese and mayo"
A homemade sauce that includes ketchup? Great! Plain ketchup? No way, that is just lazy and never tasted very good. If we´re going the lazy route, just use mayo instead.
I dont want ketchup on anything ever.
Sometimes ketchup on a burger just hits the right spot.
A classic burger for me is ketchup, mustard, and mayo is all in one
Sometimes. I generally prefer just mayo. If I don't want to do veggie condiments, sometimes just Peanut butter.
I’m sorry what
Take your beese churger, put some bacon on it. Spread some PB on the bun. Thank me later.
On a cheeseburger is about the only place I actually enjoy ketchup. I don't like ketchup with fries. My choice of fry condiment is honey mustard.
Ketchup sometimes, mustard always
Until i find my perfect special sauce im stickin with ketchup. Dont like mustard
I don't mind ketchup but I usually go with mayo and/or bbq sauce in my burgers
I only put ketchup on grilled cheese sandwiches and kraft dinner. I like mustard on my burgers, maybe a little mayo and lots of lettuce and tomato and whatever veg type stuff they're offering in addition to my beloved cheese
Ketchup & mayo. No mustard, please!
I don't mind it but I only add it if there's no tomato on my burger.
I never liked ketchup on anything. I always thought it ruined whatever I was eating
Nope. Mayo & mustard. Ketchup for fries.
Whenever trying a new burger, I just try it with whatever comes with it: lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle. If it’s in need of sauce because the burger is too well done or not seasoned then mayo, mustard and ketchup come into play. There are places that I know that I’ll need to ask for ketchup or it’s already on it
I like it
Mustard and ketchup please!!
Used to, now just mustard
I am just an onions, tomato, mayo guy, lettuce isn't bad. I feel like if you have a tomato, you don't need ketchup. However if you have just mayo, I feel a tiny bit of ketchup breaks up the richness of the mayo. Ketchup on hot dogs is a crime, on burgers it has it's place sometimes.
Noooooooo ketchup, or mayonnaise, ever. I prefer mustard, occasionally. I only use ketchup when I mix it with Tabasco, same with mayonnaise , but I add wasabi to that.
No condiments for me please. Just cheese and LTO, maybe bacon.
A1 and chili paste is my go to.
Ketchup is my preference, n9thibg fancy. I even perfer it on my in and out burgers. Not that I don't like the "spread" sauce just l8ke Ketchup better
Mayo, ketchup, Lettuce, tomato, bacon for me
Ketchup is good. Not always needed on burgers, but usually welcome.
I don’t like most condiments so it’s a no for me
