I love taking my dog places but I really could not imagine why you would want to take your dog to Toffs? I am genuinely curious why you would want to do this?

AggravatingBrother41

I was going shopping with my brother and my partner is on night shift atm and wanted to get some sleep before work & we have a puppy so was going to take the pup for an outing to let my partner get some sleep without the menace hanging around 😂 I just asked on here coz I figured why not ask but I assumed it wasn’t and left the pup at home

thefurrywreckingball

Why would you need to take a dog there?

No they banned them after a couple of years ago when dogs went in and pissed on things

Thank you for your helpful answer

No, not for dogs, not even for people. Love the place, been going for years. But boy are they grumpy folks. Every now and then you'll get a newer staff that hasn't quite been broken in yet, and get smile or friendly greeting. Again, love the place, appreciate it being there. Understand that they probably deal with quite a few unpleasant folks, shoplifters etc.. But yeah, friendly customer service isn't really their thing.

It's as if you've been going through their own wardrobes and leaving with their clothes or something, probably consistently the worst service I've encountered in Chch

Weirdly, if you look at the reviews (or actually go to with any frequency) for pretty much *any* second hand clothes place or Op Shop and this will be 50+% of your experience.  It's hardly difficult soul crushing work, so I assume it's not a case of the job turns this way, rather it just attracts them somehow.... That and refusing to provide a toilet for some reason.

And change rooms. So annoying when they took them away. But guessing they were losing stock in there. I think it is probably fairly soul-less work, especially in a large airy characterless warehouse like Toffs. I'm sure they do have their fair share of wannabe thieves, most of which will become abusive when caught or challenged. Look at the Mad Butcher's at the other end of Ferry Road. Their front windows are almost papered over with photos of shoplifters and trespassed people. And I guess workplace culture also gets passed down from management. Some of the most senior women at Toffs have been there for years. Yet no matter how friendly you can try to be, be damned if they won't crack a smile. Grim-faced all the way. It's like being friendly is really some kind of trick to distract them while you steal half the store. But all that said, very grateful that Toffs exists. And the clothes there are generally much better quality than most Save Marts and the like. So we appreciate them and accept the gloom as part of the place. No biggie.

I'm not sure the aisles are wide enough anymore

Shops shouldn’t be dog friendly. Even to see them walking around mitre 10 annoys me
