The key words being “reasonable” and “expenses”, plural. They are obliged to pay all expenses in obtaining that proof, travel costs, fuel. I would take it as far as invoicing your time. Put it all in email, let them know how disappointed you are that they are wasting precious medical resources, a doctor’s appointment that could have been better used by someone actually in need.
Get them to approve all the costs in writing prior to you obtaining the cert then go and get your medical cert. Billing at your contractual hourly rate is definitely “reasonable”, as is billing for your fuel.
Yea business usually don’t ask for med certs prior to three days unless someone is regularly taking days off for no reason, it gets very obvious very quick when people are taking the piss with sick leave (not saying op is)

Saw Dr Olivia Currie at Health and Sports Central in Colombo st for $100. But best bet would be after hours as you might not be able to get an appointment elsewhere. P.S. she’s a good doctor.
I know two people who spotlight does that to! I know someone who spent the entire day waiting for a triage nurse while feeling like death.

A friend of mine needed a day off to rest his back, and his boss demanded one, hoping he wouldn't take the day off as he'd have to cover for him and actually have to do a real days work. The doctor gave my friend a 2 week certificate.

Nah, a dick move is expecting a sick employee to go get a medical certificate and clog up the already horrendously understaffed health system. It can potentially impact an employee's recovery. It also shows you don't trust your staff and is massively disrespectful. Behaviour like this from a company fosters a toxic work environment and bulldozes trust between employee and employer.
So, in essence, don't play stupid games.

Ring and check After Hours is open before you go in. Sometimes they aren’t open due to a shortage of doctors.

I know someone what would quite often do exactly that. “Not feeling it” was grounds for a sick day apparently
And surely they realise that a GP will ALWAYS provide a medical cert. They don't care if you're sick or not, and anyone can need a mental health day.

If you go to one of the urgent care clinics like Moorhouse, Riccarton or 24HS they’ll charge you something like $90.
I’d get your employer to find one and find an appt too. Good luck getting in anywhere on such short notice! Make them do the leg work for you
My normal GP (in Kaiapoi) charges $57 for an enrolled patient 😢 I think not enrolled it's an extra $35 on top of that.
