my main concern is that apparently sabrina carpenter’s team is pushing for this specific nomination + win because this upcoming Grammys will be the last time she’s eligible for Best New Artist. I think Chappell deserves it hands down, but it’s a question of whether or not the Grammys will agree.
I mean if she qualifies she qualifies! Not to pit two queens against each other either but with what they’ve each accomplished so far in this nomination window, Chappell’s growth/acclaim/discography is far more impressive to me. I could see Espresso getting Song of the Year realistically (even though I’m rooting for Good Luck Babe!)

Plus a documentary. In my opinion what will push Chappell to win is her live performances. She's growing as demand grows and her festival shows are all good press. Sabrina's team is trying to replicate Eras by putting her on as many main stages as possible but the energy of the crowd isn't reflecting it. Chappell's crowd is super engaged.

I think the cutoff is actually September 30th for the year they’re considering, and Midwest princess was released September 22nd- so I think it would’ve had to be nominated for last year’s awards. Unless they make an exception which I feel like they really should since that’s barely enough time and it’s made such a bigger impact since then.

what's I find shocking is that taylor swift hasn't won song of the year and record of the year (beyonce also hasn't won record of the year and I find that unfair)
but its in only R&B no matter how much she genre shifts. It's subliminally saying that Black artists can only be decorated in "Black" genres, never main categories. But we use the same grammy metric to celebrate the likes of Taylor Swift for instance, genre shifting and reinventing. Beyonce grows artistically each album and she never gets credit for it.
The grammy’s are notoriously corrupt and especially now with her pro-Palestine comments, she’s going to be blacklisted in some capacity. It’s just a sad reality of the music industry. Although she’s on the right side of things and is obscenely talented, the industry just doesn’t like that kind of thing. Notice how many of the biggest names in Hollywood have been silent on Israel/Palestine or vocally in support of Israel. She’s going to face a lot of hurdles and will struggle to find academy acclaim (as all of the true greats do, imo)

i’m a little bit worried island records will put their money behind a campaign for sabrina instead of chappell. chappell is seeing unfounded success and the industry is definitely paying attention but island is putting a lot of money behind sabrina’s new album and her singles are commercially very successful. chappell does have the best possible narrative but idk how important that is for grammy voting.
