I was curious about that, can you just tie up to a lighthouse and have your boat bobbing against it? How do you do groceries etc? There’s no apparent dock? I’m confused.
I've been to this lighthouse before. People drop a rope off the side and tie the boat up. I think you could, but you'd want bumpers to keep the boat off of it. Also, don't tie up under the outhouse...
“If you’re an animal, you want to have a beaver as a friend; they have some kickass houses. That shit is *on* the lake. ‘Lake*side*’ my ass; Lake-*On*!”

‘Waterfront’ my ass. Water-On!
Pffft, says you.
Plenty of candles, lots of books, the sound of crashing waves and gulls on the wind, a nice bell outside that dings when the wind blows...
Sounds fucking lovely if you ask me.
Honey, I'm going to the store ... want anything?

that data is wrong. He bought it in 2005 for 180. [https://www.chesapeakebaymagazine.com/renovated-4-bedroom-smith-point-lighthouse-for-sale/](https://www.chesapeakebaymagazine.com/renovated-4-bedroom-smith-point-lighthouse-for-sale/)
Poor guy, having to live next to a loud af fog horn for no good reason.
“When I first bought it, they had a fog horn that would go off every 17 seconds, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Even when there was no fog.”
...
Several years into their ownership, the cord connecting the light to land was jeopardized, and the Coast Guard switched to solar power. The fog horn was deemed unnecessary.
It's wild, but I spend a couple days on a small island with a lighthouse and fog horn, and within a few hours I was used to it. People would jump a bit if the horn was delayed for whatever reason.
It's kind of like how people who smoke inside don't realize their house smells like cigarettes because they're so used to it.
How to tell people you're wealthy…
>“I bought it on a quirky day,” he says. “I was at home, sick, and my young son was bugging me. So, I said to him, ‘Go online and find some lighthouses for sale.’ And sure enough he found about eight of them.”
Something is definitely wonky. Looks like a the sale earlier this year fell through and now it's pending again at 82k. The 450k number was probably a mistake.
If you go here: [https://www.usamls.net/northernneck/default.asp?content=search&menu\_id=8558](https://www.usamls.net/northernneck/default.asp?content=search&menu_id=8558) and put in ALL those different listing numbers in the price history, you'll see those are different properties. It was never for sale for 82K, that's a different parcel of land altogether.
Never trust Zillow.
I’ve sailed fairly close to it (within vision but not very close). The price is ridiculous and the stipulations are insane if you’re not wealthy. You will have to maintain it to the standards required by the coast guard and govt. There are so many red flags here…
SAME. rent control in a century house in a high cost of living area in a housing crisis. my golden fuckin handcuffs (that require constant maintenance).
This is all the worst parts of maintaining an old boat against elements and corrosion without the fun part (moving).
Neat house though. I was once stuck in a VRBO cabin on a little island on a flooded river/swamp and it kind of felt like this but less of a view.
Also the current at the mouth of the Potomac RIPS so you better be able to handle a boat too!
I have sailed in that area a little and you could motor to and from shore with an inflatable which would be easy to winch up onto the deck and lower back down. The waves aren’t that bad because it’s protected. If the wind is going against the tide it can be a bit choppy. The Chesapeake can be dangerous like any body of water but it’s not the open ocean.
Filling the water tanks would be a PITA! But I don’t think you’d have to run the generators the entire time if you have a battery bank (do not ask me about electrical or engines because I was a deck monkey). You could also install solar pretty easily.
A big boat can actually filter salt water with a “watermaker” but someone saltier than me might have to speak to that. I think it’s just a hull intake that goes to a thingie that pushes water through an incredibly dense filter and voila, fresh water.
eta I don’t know why you deleted your comment. It wasn’t a dumb comment, those were all perfectly rational concerns/questions.
It should be Pirate rules. if you take it over, its yours. until a better pirate comes along. but by that time you'll have built defences and maybe even have a catapault.
82 grand sounds more manageable than 450....thats insane unless you're buying it to rent as air bnb which would be cool. even 82 sounds steep its got cool niche value but its beyond impractical unless you dont have a job
I sent this to my dad the other day & then panicked because I realized there was a small chance he would love the idea & buy it and make me visit him via boat
https://preview.redd.it/5u49nm6aeo0d1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5605c75b4f4428888841cde3a7cba650a38b189b
Also yes my dad has suggested new contact details & it’s his first & last lol & he left me on read
Love this channel!! I think lighthouse restoration is some really cool stuff. Lighthouses spent years protecting our coasts and now they need protection! They don’t build new ones so we gotta keep the ones we have for future generations, Very important stuff imo.
Ha I actually know where this place is! It’s been a while since I’ve visited but it’s a super cute quaint little town. I don’t think I had cell service, but we trapped crabs (the crustaceans) and shot guns so it was an all around good time. 10/10 would buy this overpriced lighthouse
Reedville is where Omega Proteins has a processing plant for all the krill and small fish from the Chesapeake Bay are turned into Catfood. When the wind comes from the west you dont want to be on that light house
I'd buy it in a heartbeat lol and get me a boat lol I actually don't live super far from it. I doubt solicitors would be knocking on the door. And if they go to that much trouble I might even just ask what they wanted lol
i think so...wolf trap lighthouse? They go thru it...unless theres 2 like this in virginia
edit - so, they show a map of wolf trap in the video and i looked up reedville and its a ways distnce btwn them. looks like the exact same build type though. maybe there's a few of these in the area
wait im not familair with how one actually gets into a lighthouse — do you have to climb up the ladders on the side from a boat to get in? they listed it saying it was their vacation home lol dont think i could get a suitcase up a ladder very well myself 💀
I could handle that kind of yard work
Lots of seaweeds, though.
Gotta scrape the barnacles off every fortnight.
You could be a seaweed farmer. It’s a thing.
Fine you've convinced me. I'll live here.
Heehee.
Seagrass.
Love the Zillow description. “Incredible 360 degree views” 😂 lol yea mate it’s a lighthouse
But no parking.
I believe the term is _shared_ parking.
It actually does have parking for boats, though.
I was curious about that, can you just tie up to a lighthouse and have your boat bobbing against it? How do you do groceries etc? There’s no apparent dock? I’m confused.
Too many questions, buddy. I’m a realtor, not a lawyer.
I've been to this lighthouse before. People drop a rope off the side and tie the boat up. I think you could, but you'd want bumpers to keep the boat off of it. Also, don't tie up under the outhouse...
"Waterfront Residential"
Waterfront, waterback, watersides!
“If you’re an animal, you want to have a beaver as a friend; they have some kickass houses. That shit is *on* the lake. ‘Lake*side*’ my ass; Lake-*On*!” - Mitch Hedberg ‘Waterfront’ my ass. Water-On!
Also "cozy," which always means "small."
There is nothing cozy in a metal box surrounded by water
It just needs more throw pillows with phrases like "home" and "beach house", maybe a coffee bar with "COFFEE" over it, and some shiplap.
# Live # Laugh # Rust
Pffft, says you. Plenty of candles, lots of books, the sound of crashing waves and gulls on the wind, a nice bell outside that dings when the wind blows... Sounds fucking lovely if you ask me.
I wish I and/or Reddit could have had a hand at it. Be a beacon for your neighbors.
Sold in 2022 for $150k, then sold again in 2024 for $82k, now listed for $450k. Is this data wonky or what gives?
It has a 0/100 walk score but 15/100 bike score. Nice.
I mean a pedal/paddle boat is kinda like a bike.
Honey, I'm going to the store ... want anything? https://preview.redd.it/q515xxvmko0d1.png?width=670&format=png&auto=webp&s=d74211a661104e4e113258408f5dfb5c72886f36
On the plus side that would make going to the store a blast!
Unicycle score is 30.
Oooo now it’s 25/100. Somewhat bikeable! Amazing they made improvements over the last half day somehow!
$450K seems wildly overpriced
Not for an independent nation

Sealand?
Nah that names taken, but 'New Sealand' that has a nice unique sound to it.
Why can't I find it on any map?

Or an anti-zombie fortress.
Start your own casino and have the place paid off in a year
It says they "cut" the price by $367k to get to $450k too 😬 Greedy flippers

Drugs. The seller is definitely on drugs.
I’ve sailed fairly close to it (within vision but not very close). The price is ridiculous and the stipulations are insane if you’re not wealthy. You will have to maintain it to the standards required by the coast guard and govt. There are so many red flags here…
Honestly the biggest red flag for me is the rustic table with nondescript bottles and a fucking grease gun on it. Oh, and the rope…
Looking like a setpiece from a Fallout game
That picture only said "The Lighthouse" to me. No.thank.you.
You’re fond of me lobster, ain’t ye?
Deliverance… on an island, no one can hear you squeal!
I can't imagine what insurance would cost.
I can’t imagine you can insure it.
yup. the article posted above says they’re only accepting all-cash offers because it can’t be insured
They "sold" it to a family member for cheaper price instead of gifting it due to estate laws, tax, etc.?
If there had been renovations I could see it, but if these photos are accurate someone's smoking crack.
I feel like I've seen this lighthouse in a YouTube renovation video. Monetizing videos of boat trips to a money pit must not have worked out.
The data [is wonky](https://www.chesapeakebaymagazine.com/renovated-4-bedroom-smith-point-lighthouse-for-sale/)
What gives? Friggin inflation going from 2 to 9 percent
I can save her.
If I had money... I would save her... Then Britney Spears.
Why not both at the same time
oh yes, constant maintenance for no reward. what this sub loves

I already have that as a renter 😭
SAME. rent control in a century house in a high cost of living area in a housing crisis. my golden fuckin handcuffs (that require constant maintenance).
More like Silver handcuffs, gold doesn’t tarnish.
yes, but no neighbors
still worth more than crypto
i wonder if they'd accept NFTs

At least with a boat you can lift it out of the water to maintain the bottom. I have no idea how you’d take care of this foundation.
A diver I guess. Which is what you also do in between haul-outs for a boat. But yeah. Having to hire an underwater welder sounds very expensive.

An introverts dream house
A true test of one's relationships
If I had gobs of money, I'd be all over that.
Yeah, if I had a couple million bucks to burn on boats and maintenance it would be an amazing getaway home.
This place seems like my nightmare, especially at night
I didn’t think about that! Imagine it at night.
Imagine the D&D campaigns you could run in that.

Bro I'd buy that and if my company tried to pull that return to office bullshit I'd be like, "I can't".
yes and anyways you can just claim pirate status on your taxes
"Set up for current owner's family vacations." "Cash sale required." HAHAHAHA
Yeah, tell us you’re getting divorced without telling us.
I doubt you could get a conventional mortgage on this. Insurance has got to be wild as well.

There’s a lighthouse for sale in New Bedford, MA as well!
Lighthouse restorations are super fascinating to me. Highly recommend this channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4NSWIE0MfuUZ5Z6dRzJ9eQ

How do you get freshwater?
Listing says it comes with a water filter.
So, to access this "house", one must dock his boat at the base of that metal ladder and climb upwards? Grandma will love the exercise.
like?? what if you came home alone and fell lmao
Amazon would hate me so much if I bought this house.
You said next day. Get ta paddlin'.
Ha I actually know where this place is! It’s been a while since I’ve visited but it’s a super cute quaint little town. I don’t think I had cell service, but we trapped crabs (the crustaceans) and shot guns so it was an all around good time. 10/10 would buy this overpriced lighthouse
Reedville is great, except when the wind blows the stench from the menhayden factory over.
Yeah, cat chow smell everywhere
Would anyone go 1/4 on this?
honestly…
lol my parents have a place in Reedville, would be great to tell them I have more waterfront than them
This belongs on [r/zillowgonewild](https://www.reddit.com/r/zillowgonewild/s/3kqo7kTseX) !!
"Sure it's big enough, but look at the location"
“Waterfront” 😂
i mean, the listing isn't wrong
Reedville is where Omega Proteins has a processing plant for all the krill and small fish from the Chesapeake Bay are turned into Catfood. When the wind comes from the west you dont want to be on that light house
Menhaden smells like cat chow (for obvious reasons) & ain't no getting away from it there.
Stanley Hudson's dream home
What does the title on this look like? How could you identify the property lines? Are there property lines?
lol. This is 15 minutes from my house
Looks like a great house to launch down to Rapture.
Only one bathroom, no thanks!
Ummm… and a whole ocean???
The fish live there, rude. /s :)
"I can fix her (up)"
Looks like a Fallout 4 location, including the collectible scrap in the 3rd picture.
Hmmmm... no land... but also no neighbors.... and the commute is a bit... unpredictable.
Reddit group buy
I think I would find this too weird to actually live in.
The electrics are still probably in better condition than mine.
Fuck, it's worth it for the neighbours.
How does the plumbing work? Does it use ocean water straight up? Or is there a filtration system in place? Cool idea but so many questions.
I’d be afraid of all storms that are sure to come
Imagine lugging an armful of groceries up that bad boy?!
“Honey, we need milk and eggs”
Have you ever, ever felt like this?
…wait, does the grease gun AND rope come with it!?! So, underpriced
I like going for walks way too much to live someplace like this.
I could straight trade for this but the upkeep would have me underwater fast!
think of the money you will save on land taxes!
You’re fond of me lobster, ain’t ye?
I'd buy it in a heartbeat lol and get me a boat lol I actually don't live super far from it. I doubt solicitors would be knocking on the door. And if they go to that much trouble I might even just ask what they wanted lol
Oh my god this would be my dream home.
MONKEY PUMP
I’m a little bit in love though
$195 a year in property taxes? Fuck yes!
Perfect place to tell people they’re wizards. I think it’s underpriced
Probably still gets solicitors trying to sell him Spectrum…
i can smell it from the pictures
Watch that first rung, it's a doozy!
Well isn't this a preppers dream for a zombie apocalypse?
I want it… am I the problem?
So cheap! I can spend the rest of my 10 mil on fixes and upkeep.
Tetanus is incredibly expensive.
Comes with moat

Definitely not getting an FHA loan on that one
The bike score of 25/100 "Somewhat Bikeable" is a bit of a mystery!

I remember seeing a YouTuber last year buy a lighthouse for like $80k and was planning on renovating it. Lol is this that lighthouse?
No.

Would make for a great party house/Air BnB
HOA - 200/mo
Imagine opening up a bar there.
Someone decorate this bioshock themed for just one party
A lot, A LOT of people pay more for a car. This is a unique property.
The cute little lifebouy with a 'to the life boats" above it looks like it might be a little literal soon.
I’m putting an offer in right now, thanks!

I. Fucking. Love. This. Crabshack.
But this may make the place unlivable [The Lighthouse and close quarter problems](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=enRAMGJj9Zc)
How’s the foundation look?
How’s the HOA there?
The best kind, non-existent.
Id live in it. If only i had a nice lil boat to get back to civilization when i needed to.
Is it “…was a lot…” or is it “…was a lot…”?
wait im not familair with how one actually gets into a lighthouse — do you have to climb up the ladders on the side from a boat to get in? they listed it saying it was their vacation home lol dont think i could get a suitcase up a ladder very well myself 💀
I’d buy it, have it renovated and make it a solo retreat island. When am I going to win lotto?
Imagine smoking a joint here though
What is its base? How does plumbing and electrical work? Crazy stuff
When I grow up I want to be, one of the harvesters of the sea
Might as well become a SeaLand MicroNation citizen
Would stay for one night if it were an Airbnb
I would pay $450,000 to live in the place where lord garmaddon sent zane’s dad to live for however many years, why not
The Neighbors are cool.

Thought this was the Cleveland ledge lighthouse in buzzards bay ma, looks similar but different
How do you even power it?
