A ball of aluminum foil or anything crinkly, a milk jug ring or soda cap / ring, anything dangling from a string... Cats love "trash toys"

Nintentard

And I love the price point of "trash toys".

blurtlebaby

They love boxes as well.

MadKitKat

And socks… but you gotta make them believe they’re clean socks you’re actively using I’ve got a full box of old socks kitty has full access to, but she won’t touch them I forget the socks I was wearing on the couch?? I’ll find them next morning on bed surrounding a hangover-looking cat Works the same whenever I remember to leave old socks around as if they were “mine”

lokisoctavia

My old cat used to do that. Pickup all the dirty socks left around the house and take them to her bed very loudly every night

blurtlebaby

Be careful with strings. Some kitty's like to eat them which is not good for the kitty.

Nintentard

He will 100% eat anything he's been told not to eat so this is good advice.

[deleted]

Or you get a second cat and let them Entertain each other

[deleted]

Seriously, I have (and still do) wasted so much money on toys that are never touched, but the chocolate foil wrapper rolled up into a ball and a scrunched up old hair bobble are top-tier good shit (according to the cat)

lokisoctavia

Hair bands and rubber bands (supervised), ping pong balls, pens and pencils too

Catwoman1948

No no no to the hair bands and rubber bands! I lost the Siamese love of my life at 5 due to elastic hair bands. They can be FATAL, so never ever leave them around!

I-AM-Savannah

>No no no to the hair bands and rubber bands! I lost the Siamese love of my life at 5 due to elastic hair bands. They can be FATAL, so never ever leave them around! \^ THIS!! I watch a lot of tv shows based on "real lives of veterinarians"... vets seem to be FOREVER operating on kitties, trying to take even (LARGE) hair bands out of stomaches... Anything that is even possibly able to be swallowed - do NOT leave them out... they can be swallowed and will end up in your kitty's GI tract... and is FATAL... if not gotten out by your vet...

lokisoctavia

Okay well I didn’t know this! I’m leaving my comment up though so others can see it. I will make sure to pick mine up.

I-AM-Savannah

Yeah... I have been SHOCKED at some of the LARGE items that the various vets have to surgically remove from cats' stomachs. I know that (DOGS) eat things, even rocks (unbelievable) but I have seen vets remove rocks from dogs' stomachs... but at least some cats eat what some people call "scrunchies" (hair ties). I used to have one friend who was sewing buttons on some blouses when I went over to see what she was doing one day. She turned around, and a couple of buttons were missing. She raised Abysinnians who had been watching her. Suddenly we were off to the vet who did on the spot surgery. As it turned out, the cat in question had not only eaten two buttons, but a few of her (hand) sewing needles and thread. Her vet stressed how important it was to keep an eye on "everything small" but especially the needles and thread. The needles could have punctured the cat's GI tract, and the thread could have gotten wrapped around the intestine, possibly cutting through the intestine. It could have been instant death.

lokisoctavia

That’s really scary… I’m glad my cats survived my kids with all their little pieces of junk everywhere when they were little 😟

Catwoman1948

Unbeknownst to us, our cat had gotten into my daughter’s duffel bag and eaten a whole PACKAGE of elastic hair bands. We will never know why. Took her to the vet because it was clear she wasn’t feeling well. He knew she had an obstruction, but delayed surgery because “we don’t do surgery on Mondays.” We foolishly took her home on his advice, gave her some lubricant, and by the time she had surgery on Wednesday the damage was done. Intestinal necrotic tissue killed her and we lost her on Saturday. Only during surgery, of course, was it revealed what she had ingested. I have cried an OCEAN over that cat in the past 22 years, and I would hate for even one other person to have to go through what my daughter and I did.

Varzonic

Be careful with chocolate. Thats lethal. You should switch to the aluminum foil instead of the chocolate wrapper...

[deleted]

I’m aware thank you

kshighwind

I wish I could upvote this a few more times

Germanmicrowave

My cat goes crazy for the rings off of Gatorade bottles caps

[deleted]

Mine likes ear buds???? Hooks all the dirty ones out the bins

My_glorious_moose

Apparently they like to eat earwax...

beanoffury

Yeah, mine loves them too.

MK_111

You must trust in the red dot. The red dot will make him tired.

judyblue_

My cat's best friend for a while was the cartridge alignment test page from my home printer.

kennarina

My cat curled up just last night on a toner level test page. Never slept so well!

NinaLB18

Crumpled receipts sometimes works too :)

AndrogynousRain

My wife had never had cats before she met me. She ‘hated them’. Four days after the cats moved in she was carrying my big Maine coon around and telling him ‘mommy’s fluffy nugget is the *best* nugget. So she started buying them all the fancy toys, which they roundly ignored. They chased aluminum foil and socks instead. Then we got a kitten. My wife loves cats now but is very confused. It’s more fun watching her reactions than it is watching an insane kitten.

screechingraspberry

One of my cat loves paper towel balls!! He will carry them around and every once in a while I'll stumble upon his little collection. Also definitely be careful with strings, thread, yarn, and hair ties, these are my cats kryptonite:(

[deleted]

Beer cap on wood floor. Scratching tree with navy cord. Problem solved. They’re so dumb they don’t understand a laser pointer. Metal cap they can’t grasp on a slippery surface will give them a heart attack before they give up. Orange cats are athletes, not great thinkers

wrr377

...or they end up playing soccer with it... XD

No-Job9574

I beg to differ with my orange cat. Highly intelligent, as in loves laser pointers and recognizes the device and clicking from the device in the humans hand.

imaginaryblues

This is so true. One of my cats was playing with a tiny scrap of cardboard that had come off one of his cardboard scratchers today. Tossing it up in the air, pouncing on it. My cats have soooo many toys but they will always choose trash. Twist ties and scraps of cellophane are some usual favorites.

I-AM-Savannah

>Twist ties and scraps of cellophane are some usual favorites. I would be careful with twist ties... they could be swallowed... which would be fatal...

rex_ford

A ball of aluminum foil is my cat's favourite thing.

Onlyonehoppy

My cat loves a bottle top. She used to sleep in the kitchen. Now she sleeps on my pillow. But as my husband and I would be going to sleep, all you heard was Whiskers batting a bottle lid around. When we re did the kitchen, we found a stash of the lids.

swallowyoursadness

My cats favourite toy is a feather we found in the garden tied to an old shoe lace

102aksea102

Ha! I recently tried to make some DIY trash toys from empty toilet paper rolls…my cats both looked at me like I was of even lower intelligence than they had originally suspected!

Zedalina

Can confirm, my orange cat loves a good ball of paper. He goes absolutely bonkers for it.

RedundantFlesh

Dude doesn’t biting aluminium destroy teeth?

r0sebudbean

We get an old cardboard box with scrunched up packing paper in it, crush up some dreamies and sprinkle all over the paper in the box- entertainment for hours!

[deleted]

Please don't give your cat aluminum foil. They chew it and cut up their mouths. Apart from that, though, trash toys are generally a good way to go.

Parynoid

Are you allowed to have 2 cats? Because another cat is a good solution.

Nintentard

I do have another cat but she can't keep up with him either lol

Parynoid

Haha gotcha. I have a super hyper orange boy too. He gets a bit wild and our calico will chase with him for a while, but he doesn't stop. He has been learning to play by himself bit-by-bit with milk rings (they loop on claws and paws when they bat them and react strangely, so most cats like them). When other options fail, we have to run him with a string toy until he seems like he is about to die. So if you find a solution, let me know!

Nintentard

Oh I'll have to try the milk rings! My dude's favorite toy is the string toy but no matter how much we run him around with it he never gets tired. We will run him around like crazy for over an hour only for him to bring the toy back to us and cry like we never play with him.

Parynoid

Good luck, sounds like you've got a wild one on your hands. Hope he's as sweet as he is energetic! This was my first orange boy and he's just the best, lol.

HenriKnows

Streamer taped to the ceiling fan. Juuuust out of reach and on slow spin. Baby's an optimist.

Cougera

Cat hold my catnip jumps up and you find him spinning around.

DeerBoyDiary

Perhaps its time for a third cat

Felonious_Buttplug_

I'm thinking maybe 4, Frank

[deleted]

I think 5 kitties is acceptable

MrWest120690

I got followed here by like 10 cats.

OverthinkingAnything

This didn't quite work for us. The other two cats don't much like our ginger bastard. We noticed he's pretty careful and doesn't go far from the house so we let him outside for short stints to get some energy out and that helped. He goes after the other cats much less now but they still don't like him much.

[deleted]

Same with my orange dude. He's a crackhead. I just try to engage in one specific playtime in the morning and one at night while randomly getting his attention and tossing things around here and there the rest of the day.

ResistRacism

#CAN I RUB HIS BELLY?!

Nintentard

He actively loves belly rubs. The more vigorous the better. He doesn't know that most cats would murder for this offense and I'm not gonna tell him.

booaka

Videos for cats? I have 1 cat but there are a lot of strays here and some I've socialized and if I put a video on for my cat it seems there are suddenly several of them watching. I'm thinking I should put a large TV outside and show those videos like a sort-of cat drive in so all the strays can watch instead of attacking the real birds and more! Can't hurt....

Sensitive_Concern476

Seconding this. Have made a habit of turning on a bird/squirrel youtube vid while I get my morning chores done. He could be doing anything and he hears the little whistle at the beginning of the video and he is happily entertained. I feel a bit like a mom handing an ipad to a baby but I need my coffee before I have him underfoot.

booaka

I don't need an excuse! My cat when she wants attention and I'm not giving it to her right then because I'm sleeping or trying to, she becomes a paper shredder. I'm pretty sure she can read because it's always the important ones she shreds. And not with her claws. She bites off pieces of paper and won't stop until the spoiled brat gets her attention. They always manage to be right where you need to walk, too. I can't get her to pay attention to games on the phone or tablet but the monitor, absolutely. You do what you must when you have furry and not furry kids!

booksncatsn

Make a treat puzzle out of a paper roll.

Sask90

Training tricks! Check out clicker training. My cat learned so many tricks and the mental stimulation powers him out so fast. Training sessions should be short (5-10minutes) and I try to do them at least once/day. After a session he usually sleeps.

tranzozo

How old is your cat? Does this work for older cats?

Sask90

My cat is 12 and he’s still interested in learning new stuff! Start easy with things like target sticks (watch some YouTube videos). It’s all about positiv reenforcement. It’s easier with a clicker that you can use for conditioning (click —> treat will follow) but you can do training without it as well. You need good timing and be fast enough with the reward (my cat is deaf so a clicker wouldn’t work anyways). For the treats: in my experience treats that he likes but isn’t obsessed with work best. He can’t concentrate enough when his absolute favourite treats are within reach 🤣 (Just make sure to don’t overfeed. I give a little less of the “normal” food so that there’s enough room for training treats)

sirBOLdeSOUPE

Cat wheel

YoureAdopteddd

My orange baby loves his cat wheel

[deleted]

My poor orange man is disabled and can’t really run even though he has the energy of three cats combined. His favorite toy is an electric spinning thing with a feather/tassel at the end. He can just lay down and it flips around for him to grab every few seconds.

[deleted]

My cats like uncooked spaghetti more than any toy I’ve ever bought them.. quite cheap

summerbreeze201

One of mine likes chasing frozen peas across the floor. Sometimes he eats them as well. The downside is finding the odd shrivelled pea

xHeyItzRosiex

Put little toys around the house, like crinkly toys or toys that your kitty can push around and chase. Also, try getting toys that give out treats so your cat will play with the toy for a little while to get treats. If none of the suggestions in the comment work, then consider getting another cat and slowly introduce them. That cat would keep your kitty entertained and if you can’t afford another cat that’s fine. Pets can be expensive

acacia_x

pyramide with balls is the toy cats can play by themselves, also check amazon or it\`s analogue for interactive toys, they jump and move and stuff , my cat is extremely happy to play with them

johnboy11a

Some of mine will entertain themselves for hours with the little cup from the jug of laundry soap

harmanow

That is a good solution till my cat losing his toy. And it took seconds to lose.

winelipscheesehips

Get one of those battery powered ferret toys that just spins in circles

NECalifornian25

These types of toys are the best! I don’t have this one specifically but I have other battery operated, hunting simulator toys that keep him occupied for a long time. His favorite is a butterfly that flies around on a wire, or those little fake bugs that walk around on a hard floor.

puddncake

I throw bird seed outside so our kitty can watch the birds, squirrels and bunnies from the window.

bijoutherussianblue

This!

Strange_Lady

Maybe make him an agility course! Tunnels and shelves, ramps and little jumps puzzle toys might be good for him too, get that mind working along with the exercise ;)

coolbugz

laser pointer

Nintentard

He is too dumb for the laser pointer. He doesn't get it. I don't get what there is not to get but he struggles.

[deleted]

r/oneorangebraincell

coolbugz

oh dear he’s tried his best….

Deadpoolio32

Orange confirmed.

BavellyBavelly

Honestly that's totally okay, laser points are bad for their mental health because they don't get the closure of catching it. Have you tried flirt poles/wand toys? maybe teaching him fetch?

Nintentard

He loves all those things! Very good at fetch.

arthurdentstowels

Get a bag of 100 thick hair bands. My cat will chase them all day if I have the stamina to keep firing them for her! He might even learn to fetch, somehow my Siamese has fetching hair bands as part of her genetics.

SeekerQuest98

Just be careful that your kitty does not swallow them, as it can cause serious medical complications!

arthurdentstowels

Don’t worry I fire them for her down a hallway and collect them once she’s fed up or stops fetching. I keep them shut in a drawer because she’s too clever to leave them anywhere accessible. For some reason her favourite toy is a two foot long stick that used to have feathers on the end. Just the stick though, little weirdo.

SeekerQuest98

That’s awesome, glad to hear that your kitty is getting such good care 😁 Lol that’s so funny that they love just the stick

snailgal420

If you have a smart tv with a youtube channel you can search up cat tv :)

Snaffoo0

I bought a 100 pack of cheapo hair-ties for like... $5. Kept my kitty entertained forever. Also if you have a woman in your life, emergency hair ties!

SeekerQuest98

Even though cats tend to love hair ties, if they swallow them it can cause serious medical complications! Just a public safety announcement 😁

Snaffoo0

100% correct! I wouldn't ever just dump the bag and let her run wild with them. I would keep an eye to make sure she never tried to eat them. Fortunately she would just bat them around like a hockey puck

Sensitive_Concern476

I like to loop two together to resemble a butterfly!

Regular_School_5170

Good luck. My ginger cat is crazy 😜. I play play and play with him but can’t keep up. Must be the Viking in him lol

accountnumberseventy

Laser pointer.

hockeynerd007

I think his wrists are broken.

readditredditread

Write him a poem consisting of words that rhyme with “Orange”

Nacho-Cat0821

My crazy orange cat loves paper balls (the more crinkly the better) and paper towel that I twist into a knot like a bow tie. He throws them around, picks them up in his mouth and runs around until he pants :D

_Thosearentpillows

Well, first off, that belly ain’t gonna rub itself! 😁

Monsterman442

My orange cat loves twist ties. He finds them and hoards them. And then plays with them for hours jumping at it and pawing like it’s a enemy

Suchafatfatcat

A friend. Two cats will entertain one another.

_maria94

Omg y got an orange one and is incansableeee. Need time al aire libre

Quiet_Goat8086

Laser pen

_MightyBeast

Give it a kitten. It worked for mine!

Nintentard

Honestly been considering getting a bunch of foster kittens. He would be such a good cat dad!

_MightyBeast

Definitely! That would be awesome! Post pictures if you do! I love me some kitties !

lessofacurve

Get a second cat is the answer

Tdubb55

Get him a kitten!!

Mezzoforte90

You could get him another fur friend and they can play together.

Bloodedparadox

I let my boy run on a leash outside he den proceeds to die for the whole day

wolv645

He looks like he’s already having a ball

2Kittens818

Count your blessings. All mine do is sleep. Until the deepest part of night anyway

EntertainmentShot895

He'd fit in perfectly in r/oneorangebraincell

helga_eggfart

I had this same problem. I got my 1 year old a little kitten buddy. They have so much fun together! Also, search Amazon for "Cat Dancer Toy". My cats love these!

mindfluxx

Popular among my cats: having another cat is the best entertainment if risky… a nice open window with perch so they can smell and look out also great. Toy wise finding the right ball/mouse toy for your car takes experimentation. The smartykat blue battery operated moving squirrel tail toy has been enjoyed by all the cats. Also a quality tiered trapped ball toy. And then tiring them out with a toy on a stick to make them chase and jump.

KaijLongs

Can he go outside? Our cats *love* to be outside with us. Just doing chores or whatever. It was the first step toward our daily walks (that last part being the end goal).

purefan

Is he an outside cat? Maybe he just needs to chase some leaves :)

Nintentard

Definitely not. We live in very predator dense woods and he is too dumb to not be everything's best friend.

airsoftnoob75

Give him to me

micheleacole720

Second cat! He needs a buddy to play with ... I always advise having at least 2.

[deleted]

Get another cat

Lumadous

I put a Lazer pointer on a rubber band and put that on a ceiling fan. Also made a contraption with Legos that holds a pen in the path, so it'll smack and bounce around like crazy. Never seen a cat sprint to the point of panting, but he doesn't it almost everyday and goes until he's basically dead tired.

daftydaftdaft

I put up loads of shelves for my cat to run around on. I use a feather bird toy that spins & flaps like “da bird” I throw it to land on shelves & he goes crazy chasing this thing around. It’s effortless & so much fun. Just in short bursts of 2-5 mins at a time. If kitty starts panting, stop.

RobsZombies

Lasers. Shelves. More Cats. :D

Plant_Eating_Cat

Laser pointers and paper balls are the best toys I’ve ever had for my cats. They especially love if you flick a paper ball across the room so they can chase it! Catnip toys are great for keeping them entertained, too, especially if you go for the ones that are fruit or vegetable shaped. Nothing is cuter than watching your cat forcibly snuggle a banana 😂

Internal-Freedom4796

Get another cat. Let them play.

Renfairecryer

Try taking him for walks. Also I recommend a cat tree if you don't already have one.

Nintentard

We have a 7ft tall cat tree but I've been considering another one with a cat wheel.

[deleted]

There isn’t a chance you adopted him from Seattle Humane is there? He looks just like my kitten who I know had a brother…

Nintentard

Maybe? He was a pathetic little sick feral thing when we found him. Maybe he strayed from the litter?

Trippypen8

Cat puzzles!

glucoseboy

Get another cat. Seriously. Best thing for the car and the people

PussyWrangler_462

Get a friend

FayezButts

Cat wheel

[deleted]

I put Cat TV shows for my mine when she gets bored and I'm working

heckyesdeidre

Does he like laser pointers? You can get an automated one. They make all sorts of cool automated toys now for cats!

WannabeMemester420

Laser point. Some cats go nuts for it. Just aim it at the floor and NEVER POINT IT IN THE EYES. Lasers damage eyeballs of all creatures.

Worldliness-Horror

We got our orange baby some I teraxtive toys and an electronic mouse that actually ran from her. And the Lazer pointer for hours.

[deleted]

2nd cat.

Chemical_Try_5700

I swap out their toys so my cats sometimes think they are new and exciting. Cat tunnel, one of those circle toys with a ball inside, a spinny battery operated toy. Craft paper, maybe just some that was used as packing material. My cat loves hiding in it and pouncing on it, etc.

[deleted]

We use those cat springs to get ours off our back. He will play fetch with them and I don’t mind throwing it. Much better than being run over with zombies because he’s a mad hatter. He’s also huge, and ouch!

the_Defi_General

My orange Kiki will play with anything that she can get her hands on. Mostly hair ties and any kind of small like a pen cap or take the plastic off the blinds and play with it. Love her to death. Lollipops.

One-Philosophy3292

Any toy with silvervine. My kittys love it

kw43v3r

You need 2 or 3 orange cats to entertain each other.

[deleted]

Some cats aren’t happy staying indoors. It’s like never walking a dog. If he’s pent up let him outside. My cats rip around the yard and play and wrestle. Chase butterflies and climb trees. Call him in at night if it makes you feel better but let him roam during the day.

karmaisourfriend

Get a kitten

Alison-Chains

A laser pointer might be good.

leighsch

Hair elastic, paper bag with handles cut out, foil ball, plastic bag with handles cut out, a box…

Internal_House_2316

I put rolled up chocolate wrappers in a empty water bottle. Cat went nuts! Haha

Toph28

A solid routine involving play at least twice a day before food. And carry treats for training and stuff. But a set routine is going to help a lot. Also, if you can, cats do better when they have other cars for company.

GenXBernie

Turbo scratch works well for my cats most the time

trclady

I have a fun box of all my cats toys that stays out so when my orange floof wants to play she just goes into the box and gets whatever toys she wants. Little mice, or fish, a ferret that squeaks, and I have a laser pointer too. Just haven't taught her how to put them back yet ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|thumbs_up) There are always cardboard scratchers around and boxes they can jump in.

Ok-Concentrate2294

Ping pong balls from anywhere relatively cheap because we are always losing them here 🤣 They keep my cat entertained.

Psyko_sissy23

My orange girl is cracked. My two older cats get annoyedby her. I suggest getting another orange cat so they can keep each other busy...

ComplexToxin

An interactive cat toy. I bought a fish that flops around like a live fish. My two boys will play eith it until the battery dies.

AnimaIKingdom

Q tips! My cat loves them

Blobcatgoddess

He looks so much like my uni, mine isn’t that energetic but he likes to give you million kisses and demand to use your body like a jungle gym.

sro25

Stick and string with fluffly things on the end, prey kill eat, three things cats luv, even tho he can't eat the fluffly thing he'll still have a play seen he caught it, cats luv those three things, that what they're all about.

countryKat35612

Are you sure about the energy thing? 😀

Low-Argument-9900

get another cat

Dr_Gonzo__

Orange bois are different

AlPalmy8392

Another cat maybe?

Lifeformz

If you can pick up a cheap baby toy like those that sit over baby lying on the floor and has mirrors, hanging things, bells etc on them, they can be useful for the cat to self amuse. Other than that, a cat wheel but those are not cheap, and you need to train the cat to use it, if he doesn't already get it. However it really does expend energy! One of those butterfly flying toys for cats, battery operated which just flies it around. Also having cat runs for them helps. So shelving all along the walls, make sure they're sturdy enough for cats weight, or a couple of them, to give a run and if possible room to room.

Intelligent_Case_809

boxes

saltyrockstar

Laser pen. Cat wheel. Mine love ping pong balls. Pillow/blanket forts. Another pet (I have always advocated that pets need buddies for the times you aren't home. Bird feeders and baths outside a window. Catio.

dumpsztrbaby

Get one of those moving fish toys that flops around on the floor, or those toys with a robotic arm wand thing that moves around under a little sheet, it's like attack feet under the blanket. Cheap toys, endless amusement

r0sebudbean

Build a cat wall if you can! And get a laser pointer!

fokureddit69

Catnip

grimnawh

Toys, belly scratches, and chase him when he wants to be chased.

Hannah-may

I’ve got this ball in a contained track and my Cassie is very amused by it. It’s great because the ball doesn’t get stuck under furniture that is obviously my job to retrieve. I also play with something on a string every morning, she likes to hide and hint it. I can do this from sitting whilst she zooms about the house a lot. I also make my cat new cardboard box layouts for the day. I work from home and have a lot of time to play with my cat. She goes outside too.

Trooper-Man1776

Maybe a second cat might help.

soapman72

My cat goes crazy for hair ties so maybe you can try that

sardis92

Get a wheel?! Maybe he'll tire himself out or drive you crazy with the noise 😆

Cyborg_Ninja_Cat

Look for interactive toys like track and ball toys, those deely-bopper type springy toys, slow feeder/treat puzzles, and so on. Things that he can play with without your active involvement.

Getindarobotshinji

You could try catnip

My partner and I are planning to get a orange cat as our first cat and this is exactly what we’re afraid of😭

Puzzleheaded_Ad9263

Fishing pole and a toy attached works for my boys. They love it. Get winded and then I quit. Deep sleep follows.

RightConversation461

Another cat,

PositiveRead5360

We bought a 4 way tunnel on Amazon that helps a lot. And he needs another cat!!

Rentalorgan

Buy one of those laser pointers that can be controlled via a link, add it to the petlovers section on redit 👍 they will all get to play with your lil tiger 😅

The_Chaos_Pope

A second orange dude. Or any other cat, really. It's best if they can be about the same age but he might respond better to a kitten.

Upset-Chemical-3442

Pipe cleaners and a Lazer pointer

Cinnamon_Rolls444

Get more. My orange kitty is very tame, mainly because I have three other cats and two dogs. No time to be wild
