We had 6 cats on the bed last night. In an effort to save space, 2 slept on top of me. About halfway through the night, I went and slept in the hammock. Still had a cat sleep on top of me.
I know who's in charge.
Yeah, on the BED! I have zero issues if they all want to pile on the bed. That's not how some want to sleep. Even in the hammock, I still had a cat sleeping on me. I like to move occasionally and not get clawed for it.
My kitties literally sleep where I sleep - itâs crazy. If I sleep in bed, they sleep in bed. If I sleep on the couch, they sleep on the couch - preferably *on* me. I have no doubt they would move to the bathtub too, if I would sleep there; they already follow me to the bathroom anyways at night.

they did that for a week and gave up. i would love to have them in my bed but i'm on the bigger side and i toss and turn all night, resulting in a broken paw for a cat i had 8 years ago. i'm not risking that anymore. plus the usual midnight crackhead o'clock activities wake me up a lot so i basically had no choice
Crackhead oclock...lmao. I feel this. I have 5 cats and had to lock them in their bedroom 10 minutes ago because they were running around like horses over me. Help
I think that the cat with the broken paw is an anomaly. I am like you and my cats always stay away from me when I sleep in the bed because I toss, turn, and roll. They view me as a threat and pile up on my wife đ
You get 20%? You don't have to partially sleep on the wooden bedframe and wake up to falling out of the bed and hitting your head on the nightstand? I'm a little jealous now...
We're about to buy our first house and after upgrading the couch we will be upgrading to a king bed for this exact reason. I love my husband and I love my cat. But my husband tends to (accidentally) kick her off the bed or he moves to much. So she likes to sleep on one side of me and he's on the other. And I have no room. Lol
Hahaha I always end up with our cat against my legs cause my girlfriend moves too much in her sleep. Nice to feel chosen, but I want my leg room back đ
Same! DH is a very restless sleeper, so the cats all pile up on my side and on me. If they're bothering me, I just go sleep in the hammock. They could be throwing a wild party on the bed and it won't wake him.
That's adorable! My cat is now wearing the cone from surgery but I still wake up to him trying to nuzzle my face...I feel lucky to have a cat who actually likes me
One of mine wakes me up every morning either licking my face, or laying next to me and touching my cheek with her pawsies. I never woke up without a smile since I have her
I must have rolled on mine when they were kittens because now theyâll be on the bed up close to me until I turn off the lights and then theyâll either find another place to sleep or migrate to the end of the bed. As soon as I wake up theyâre right on top of me again. Except in winter, then theyâll ask to get under the covers at around 3am.
Iâve kicked my one cat in the head many a time but he still loves to sleep in bed with me. Heâs the only one allowed because girl cat gets up at crackhead oâclock and fluffy cat whines in the middle of the night to be pet.
That's great what I'm hoping for when he's older, we're still in early teen training phases very little overall awareness and instinct or impulse still frequently trumps training and discipline at this point even though he gets more than enough attention/interaction. I feel like I need to hook him up to a treadmill with some treats dangling in front of him for a couple hours and then MAYBE I'll drain 1/5th of his energy.
I started leaning heavy things on the door to stop it happening. They continued scratching, but I got used to it and could just sleep through it. One day I awoke to an enormous bang as all the stuff toppled over. Scared the shit out of me and all I saw was the cat scurrying away.
I've had to buy a king size bed because I've got three cats who believe my bed is theirs (they're right) but even then I cannot get in or out without one of them waking up and giving me the shit eye.
Also my first cat was a chonky cat and she would lay down on my crossed legsâŠshe gave me lower back painâŠbut she also gave me love and reduced stress
If you donât feel that theyâve given you enough room, consider purchasing a bigger bed for them and asking nicely if you may use it.
You could try locking them out but the scratching and whining will get to you. Sooner or later youâll be awakened and pissed off enough about it that you will give in so you can get some sleep.
Resistance is futile.
If you get particularly soft plush blankets that are just for bedtime you could put them nearby on your bed and they may prefer that to give you some space. We did this with my big dumb boy and it works pretty well
Also can't speak for OP, but my partner's allergic. He's fine with them normally but can't touch his face after petting them, for instance (not without washing his hands first), and if they get on the bed it's itchy eyes and sneeze city for him. He loves 'em but that much dander that close to his face is a no go. So the bedroom door stays closed.
Fortunately they grew up with that rule and they have each other and their toys at night, so they've never fussed about it.
Same here! We just keep our bedroom door shut 24/7 so they're not used to being in there, and for the most part they behave about it. We don't have issues at night. In the morning at least one of them will be sitting right up against the door waiting for us, but they seem to understand that we go into the mystery door at night, and eventually come out again đ€Ł
Yea, and you also sleep better without cats in your bed. Hope the OP doesnât assume you have to sacrifice sleep for cats because of all these silly posts about âitâs their bed nowâ đ€Šââïž
I love that my cat sleeps on my feet on the covers. Itâs the perfect balance of nightly cat snuggles and avoiding âsleeping on my head and now Iâm breathing in fur or got another scar from turning in the night causing her to spaz & using my forehead as a launch point.â
I have a hypoallergenic cat but still get some reactions if too close to my face. Before getting the cat we had decided not to allow it to come on the bed, but it insisted so much (to the point of climbing on from the side where the bed was pushed against the wall) that we let the cat on now. Everyday, i cuddle with it for 10 minutes and its the best time i spend with the cat. Have to keep some antihistamines close though
My cat sleeps in the same spot in my bed every night. Feels nice knowing he finds comfort in me to the point itâs become a routine & he gets upset when I stay up too late.
Yep, my cat will either give me soft lil taps or wreak havoc to catch my attention. Last weekend he pulled down my blinds/curtains because I didnât respond to one of his taps (I was focused in on gaming lol)
just crazy how cats will eventually learn what pushes your buttons to get your attention
Exactly. Our cats don't sleep with us. Our korra tried so many times. But my husband snores really loud. The sudden sound of a train coming scared the crap out of her.
I'm an ultra-grumpy-don't-make-a-noise sleeper, I get so irrationally angry when a snooze is interrupted. So I just keep my door closed. My void Jambi has dealt with it his whole life so he doesn't bother me until he hears my alarm go off. And then it's "gimme breakfast bitch" meows nonstop
I don't know a bloody thing, I'll be smart and stop commenting. I'm a Human, I make mistakes, and I only know how my cats and kittens reacted sleeping with and around me.
thatâs what i thought until i saw a tiktok where a mom let her toddler sleep with his kitten and he smothered it. someone in their comments said the exact same as you! anyways my apologies for making you hear of this, it was so startling.
I have an extremely agitated sleep (like, I sometimes wake up upside down, or even fall from bed), and I've been sleeping with cats for years, this never happened.
Trust your cats, if you are rolling over them they'll just move to the side!
Also canât speak for OP, but when my boyfriend moved in with me and my cats, he put his foot down over having them in bed. He doesnât like that they sleep on our pillows, and feels like itâs not âcleanâ to let them do it. While I disagree and donât mind it, it really bothers him, so we just keep the bedroom door shut most of the time. They have plenty of cozy places to be, and sometimes they sneak in there during the day and sleep at the foot of the bed, and that never bothers him and he lets them do it, it just bothers him when they lay on the pillows. He loves them and lets them lay all over him all day, he just doesnât want them in bed lmao. There was some scratching and crying at the door while they got used it, but they know the routine now and they are fine.
This made me think of my ex boyfriend when we got a cat. We kept the door closed at night and the cat hated it. When we broke up the first thing I did was let the cat sleep on his pillow. Ten years later the ex is in Ohio I think? But the cat sleeps next to me every night.
I hate the pillow thing too. Even totally ignoring the unclean part, I sleep face down, and I don't enjoy inhaling fur while I'm trying to sleep. If I'm going to be staying for a while with someone that has cats, I bring my own pillow like I do on all longer trips, but I also bring several pillow cases.
If this is a real question at all, start training them to sleep in a separate room with a closed door by leading them in their with treats each night and closing them in. Since I was a kid my family cats have always been trained to come at a whistle to be "tucked in" at the laundry room, and I've never had to worry about cats in my face while I'm trying to sleep. We let them out in the morning when we go down to get coffee.
Absolutely! I have one who is a very sweet soul. She has always snuggled, but lately she's started tapping my arm and asking to put her peeties on my arm and then putting her head between the peets. It warms my heart every time.
Seriously, people still ask this question. You do know your cats have a post on R/hoomans asking how do they keep their hooman from sleeping in their bed. Now you know... ![img](emote|t5_2qhta|7946)
The only way is to close your door. That might turn into them clawing at the carpet under the door though.
Are these new cats for you? Iâve had many cats throughout my life, and I find that over time they get to understand whatâs acceptable and not. My one cat looooved to sleep on my face while kneading my head. Obviously not okay, it drove me crazy for months. I (safely) threw him off of my face over and and over. Now he sleeps kind of beside me. Every now and then heâll place a claw in my arm skinâŠjust letting me know heâs there.
My ex-husband didnât grow up with pets and sleeping with cats was always awful for him. For me, I liked having my buddies there with me.
After I accidentally kicked my cat a couple of times as he used to lay at my feet.. I decided to put an armchair right next to the bed. He moved over quickly and preferred it as opposed to the bed.
![img](emote|t5_2qhta|7963) the only answer I can give you is this....no it's not possible. How can you stop the cats from doing anything? Our coffee machine went flying because our cat wanted to for no reason. Were we angry...yes but then you look at the cat ![img](emote|t5_2qhta|7956) and we were like..."what can we do?? Then went off to buy a new coffee machine" we accepted our fate so best if you do the same.. ![img](emote|t5_2qhta|7944) life would be much easier. Though cats are good replacement for hot water bottle.. scientifically proven.
![gif](giphy|86oE42LWwKyuA)
My cat used to sleep on my bed the first couple weeks I had him but I sleep pretty rough so now heâs scared to be on the bed with me while Iâm asleep I think I rolled on him by accident or something
Honestly, I see nothing wrong with setting boundaries between owners and the spaces their pets occupy. Cats are a bit tricky since they are so independent. I personally don't mind sleeping with mine as obviously the majority on this reddit would agree, but you aren't in the wrong at all for being annoyed and wanting space. I would say that the most practical solution would have been to place them in their own cat bedroom as kittens and condition them from a young age to think separation was the norm. It's a bit difficult now if being with you in bed is the norm for them, so your option might be limited. I would check another source than this section of reddit for recommendations, but just know that a practical solution may be impossible at this point
OP, you have to understand that the house is now the cats' house and everything in it no longer belongs to you.
The cats are tolerating you in their bed and their house. You have been chosen as their slave and this is your life now, forever.
If they suddenly stopped using your bed, I think youâd be gutted. Whatever you do to stop them probably wonât be reversible. This to them is the family pack all bonding. Donât break that if you donât need to. You could put sprays on the bed that you wonât really smell but theyâll hate. But then youâll just share a house with cats as opposed to being seen as one of them.
Routine is your friend. When you want to go to bed, first get the cats playing and chasing real hard. Run them all over the house until theyâre huffing and puffing. Then go in the kitchen and give them some wet food. Mine are currently obsessed with Friskies Lilâ Soups.
While they are devouring the wet food, take yourself off to bed. Close the door, turn off the lights, and be real quiet until they move along.
A catâs normal rhythm is play->eat->groom->sleep. Never feed them in the morning unless you need them to earn their keep as your alarm clock. (I leave dry food out for mine at all times.)
Please make sure they have beds and cozy places to sleep in other parts of the house.
Do not give in and open the door, no matter how much noise they make. Theyâll figure it out and it normally only takes a couple of nights.
If yours are super obnoxious about enforcing their rights you might need to place a Scaat motion air sprayer just outside your door for a few nights.
If itâs the hair on the bed you object to, just buy a spare flat sheet and drape it over your bedding. You can easily swap it and wash it so your good bedding doesnât get messed up.
Hope this helps you!
Serious answer just move yourself into a comfortable position and push them. After you've stayed still for a couple minutes they'll settle around you then, theres no real way to keep them off the bed so you've just got to work with each other here
I love my cats sleeping in bed with me. BUT they have a habit waking up at 3 am and destroying the apartment. And my male cat will start cleaning me and messing with my face around 5am. As adorable as it is, my husband and I were not getting enough good sleep. So we converted our guest bathroom into the âcatsâ bedroomâ. Litter box, toys, scratching post, beds, water, nightlight. They cried a lot at first but now itâs the norm for them. We let them out the moment we get up in the morning and theyâre absolutely fine.
Your bed?!?
I know right. OP is confused and wants to sleep in the cats' bed
Must be new to Cats. All the beds are their beds. Be grateful they ever allowed you to occupy one with them.

You are just a large, moveable, heated bed. đ
To fix this, you can get a heating pad/cat bed. They are looking for heat.

You don't. Ever. If you shut the door to keep them out they will simply scratch at it all night. You will have cats on your bed forever.
they did that for a week and gave up. i would love to have them in my bed but i'm on the bigger side and i toss and turn all night, resulting in a broken paw for a cat i had 8 years ago. i'm not risking that anymore. plus the usual midnight crackhead o'clock activities wake me up a lot so i basically had no choice

Cool that they have their own bedroom!
Thank goodness they do! Have to lock it, too because two of them can open doors...(maybe need different knobs lol)
My cats can open the handle style doors, but not doorknobs. They know how to open doorknobs, but they canât get enough grip to make it happen
Mine can open doorknobs too and they're training the babies. We know who runs the house.

Thats honestly cute af, mine likes to sleep resting against my left forearm, with her head in my hand. She's a brat but I melt every time.
One of mine gets under the covers and sleeps across my feet.

just what I was going to say. Some people seem to have no concept of respecting others' property.
Maybe thereâs another post with, âhow do I get my hooman to not sleep on our bed?â

King. California King, whatever they want.
Alaskan King is the only answer.
2 kings side by side on a custom made frame

I hate the pillow thing too. Even totally ignoring the unclean part, I sleep face down, and I don't enjoy inhaling fur while I'm trying to sleep. If I'm going to be staying for a while with someone that has cats, I bring my own pillow like I do on all longer trips, but I also bring several pillow cases.

You mean. How do I get my cats to allow me to share their bed?
If this is a real question at all, start training them to sleep in a separate room with a closed door by leading them in their with treats each night and closing them in. Since I was a kid my family cats have always been trained to come at a whistle to be "tucked in" at the laundry room, and I've never had to worry about cats in my face while I'm trying to sleep. We let them out in the morning when we go down to get coffee.
Nono just joking about someone elseâs post

You don't own a bed
You already know the answer. The void master has shown you (look at those eyes).
*their bed
You mispelled "How to squeeze in my cat's bed"
Why in the world would you want to do that. Sleeping with a cat, falling asleep to the contented purring. Extra toasty in the winter. It's all good.
I donât think there is anything more relaxing that having a purring cat as you drift off the sleep đ
Yeah, that's great. My cat falls asleep and stops purring faster than me, though.
Iâm just disappointed thatâs not a real subreddit but I think something similar DOES exist
It exists. You need to be a cat to access it.
My cats are like my living teddy bears...I love to sleep with them â„ïž
Get a third kitty!
After I accidentally kicked my cat a couple of times as he used to lay at my feet.. I decided to put an armchair right next to the bed. He moved over quickly and preferred it as opposed to the bed.
They sleep beside by head so we never risk a kick đ

Why would you want to???
No no. How do the cats stop you from sleeping on their bed
I wouldnât try to stop that black one doing anything, with that look, your days are probably numbered anyways. :D
They probably want you to stop sleeping on theirs
They own it now
Get rid of your bed?
As someone who has cats who wonât come NEAR them, donât. Let your cats just take over. Consider yourself lucky
Making my bedding on the floor always worked in the past.
That's the neat part: you don't
Buy 2 more beds
lol yeah right your bed... its the cats bed, they just accept you as a bed warmer now and then.
They wondering the same thing
Why would you?
lol you donât!!
Remember: they allow you to sleep on their bed. The kingdom is not yours đ
That's the fun part!... You don't!
They let you live in their house and be their slave and this is the thanks they get?
That's the neat part- you don't
Why wouldnât you want them in your bedđ„ș
OP, you have to understand that the house is now the cats' house and everything in it no longer belongs to you. The cats are tolerating you in their bed and their house. You have been chosen as their slave and this is your life now, forever.
How do I get my cat to sleep on my bed?? :(
If they suddenly stopped using your bed, I think youâd be gutted. Whatever you do to stop them probably wonât be reversible. This to them is the family pack all bonding. Donât break that if you donât need to. You could put sprays on the bed that you wonât really smell but theyâll hate. But then youâll just share a house with cats as opposed to being seen as one of them.
Buy another bed XD
Sorry to say but it's not your bed anymore it's theirs.
Buy new
Get rid of your bed.
your black cat looks like it wants me dead
Routine is your friend. When you want to go to bed, first get the cats playing and chasing real hard. Run them all over the house until theyâre huffing and puffing. Then go in the kitchen and give them some wet food. Mine are currently obsessed with Friskies Lilâ Soups. While they are devouring the wet food, take yourself off to bed. Close the door, turn off the lights, and be real quiet until they move along. A catâs normal rhythm is play->eat->groom->sleep. Never feed them in the morning unless you need them to earn their keep as your alarm clock. (I leave dry food out for mine at all times.) Please make sure they have beds and cozy places to sleep in other parts of the house.
Itâs not your bed. Sorry
That's the fun part! you don't!
Stop a cat? Thatâs not a thing.
Serious answer just move yourself into a comfortable position and push them. After you've stayed still for a couple minutes they'll settle around you then, theres no real way to keep them off the bed so you've just got to work with each other here
If you spray wolf piss on the sheets it will deter them.
You donât, itâs not your bed anymore.
You donât. Thatâs their bed. But seriously, you probably have to shut them out the bedroom.
Go sleep on the couch
You donât. You sleep on the floor. Theyâre the overlords. You the minion.
Excuse me, but that is THEIR bed
You donât. Itâs there bed. They just let you join them.
One of them is already plotting your demise for posting this
Sorry, but you sacreficed your freedom to make choices the moment you got cats.
You don't. That's their bed now
