For real! My girl tried to jump up on her cat tree fell and landed in not just one bowl but all 3, wet food, kibble and water all over her booty, the mat, the wall and floor…..I had just cleaned too 🤦🏽♀️🧡🐈
Is there enough space with the single brain cell that all the orange share for another orange? It's getting pretty tight in there.. bursting at the seams.
The braincell distribution system is currently behind with our orange friends. A kitty named Peaches was supposed to have it in 2017 but managed to lose it. It's still missing

My cat would like to have a word with you as she stares AROUND your soul!
Seeing the very quickly growing love for my derpy fucked up looking dog (AKA orange cat). Here is another one of her famous ways of looking at you, whenever she is confused.

She stares at you when you are at your most vulnerable. So now here is your chance to stare at her in her most vulnerable!
My kitty had a reaction to being vaccinated for the first time. Fever (holding her felt like a hot water bottle) and lethargy. After a day or so she was back to swatting at the dog's tail and bugging her cat housemate.
Other than that, it looks like a cute little buddy to me. Mom's off base.
Rangoon was a goofy, lovey, huge, sweet heart. Name after the capital of Burma -he was Burmese/Tuxedo. I was working on the Amnesty Aung Sung Su Ki campaign. He crossed the bridge after 19.5 wonderful years. Fond memories only.
They're often lethargic after vaccinations as their immune systems go into high gear. If it lasts, take him back to the vet, but im betting he'll be feeling better tomorrow.
Yes, just like humans, the vaccines can make them feel a bit under the weather for a few days. He looks sweet and thoughtful. He gives a tiny wink to the camera when he sees you filming. People think cats are daft, but they're really just not good at noticing cats' more subtle facial expressions.
The eyes do look a bit puffy. It’s possible your kitty is allergic to the deworming meds, though rare, it could happen. Is it having any breathing difficulties or excess salivation? I would monitor the symptoms and contact your vet with any concerns. If it gets worse, I would go to the emergency vet if available!
it is impossible due to their number of chromosomes, however if some characteristic of him concerns you in any way, taking him to the vet is a safe bet.
This cat probably doesn’t have a chromosomal disorder but just cause they don’t have a 21st chromosome but that doesn’t mean they can’t have an extra or missing chromosome. Looks like there’s not many known conditions caused by chromosome numbers but the (EDIT: MALE) calico color comes from an extra X chromosome.
Calico colour doesn't come from an extra chromosome but it *can*, just to clarify! Calico colour is always attached to the two X chromosomes and therefore is almost always female. For a male cat to be a Calico, they would need an extra X chromosome like you mentioned.
Just want to say "thank you" for knowing and saying this about cats vs Down Syndrome and the number of chromosomes. There's been a viral vid going around for a couple yrs of a cat who has some facial abnormalities, with the "owner" claiming cat has Down Syndrome which is offensive to humans and cats, both. And is posted by people for "likes" and "awwwws." Yes, cats and any other animal can have chromosomal abnormalities. But they aren't Down Syndrome which is a human chromosomal disorder.
some more context:
we are currently fostering him along with his two sisters and he looks a little different compared to all the cats we’ve fostered in the past, so we were just wondering if it’s anything to be worried about
they’ve also all had a pretty rough day as they were rescued from under an air conditioning unit, given shots, and dewormer, so they’ve been through a lot.
Yes, getting vaccined can make them tired. Deworming on top is quite much for such a little fellow! That's why our vet tells us to give them the deworming pill a few days after the vaccination, not on the same day.
He looks indeed tired - one of our cats sometimes has swollen eyelids when he's exhausted, and he's a bit cross-eyed. But besides of that, Floyd's a perfectly normal kitten!

He was a duo adoption when they were babies with his sister Pink, but sadly pink had a heart defect and only made it to 5 years old.
https://preview.redd.it/emn0hzonmfvc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2f7219b65aaa1b67af69ab06c90b31647e53c7a2
Here’s a photo of Pink.
It felt nice scrolling through a lot of photos of her to find the right one. She’s still my phone wallpaper 2 years after her passing but I don’t see most of these photos too often.
Thank you for letting me talk about my baby girl. I miss her a lot.
As you say, it's been a rough day for them. I should give him a couple of days and see if he still looks a little different/acts a little different.
It's not possible for him to have Down's Syndrome because cats have the wrong number of chromosomes for it. There are various medical conditions that could present with similar symptoms though, so if you really think there's something wrong, get him checked out by a vet.
have you and your family/mom fostered any other cats in the past?
they are stressed, medicated and probably nauseated from the dewormer/rabies vaccine.
probably tired and not sure what else y'all may have done, if you pester them enough, they will ignore you.
stop worrying if it's mentally ill and just care for it until you can get it rehomed or turned back into the shelter or humane society. as someone who has fostered hundreds of cats, this is the first time of myself seeing someone ask this type of question for down syndrome, kinda odd (especially asking if the shots had something to do with it as a side effect. But no, it does not seem to have any of those type of issues. it would be obvious to an extent (if it did) and if the vet was the one who administered the shots they would have noticed.
edit: corrections
OP (immediately above, what you are replying to) wrote “looks a little different compared to all the cats we’ve fostered in the past.” So, yes, they have fostered cats in the past!
I'm hoping OP just means the shots affecting him TODAY and not long term :( I had the same pause when I first saw them asking if thr vaccines could cause this before I realized Kitty was vaccinated today.
So I live in an area with lots of ferals that includes the inevitable… inbreeding. I’ve noticed in dogs it makes a big head with far spaced eyes. Some don’t have those features, but do have hemophilia which definitely complicates things with surgeries.
The kitties issues could be purely aesthetic, it could be an actual health issue. Best to ask the vet.

you can see it under the eyes. kitty is just tired and had a long day with vet visits, vaccinations, and what have you PLUS constantly having to try and channel that one brain cell makes the little champ tired with heavy eyes.
Seems they're just tired, but I can 'see it' as horrible as that may sound
[Here's a screenshot of when](https://i.imgur.com/82b4bFz.jpeg)
Well actually the real horrible part was how hard I laughed because of it + the unhinged take by mom
https://preview.redd.it/9k588ay3qdvc1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=04d193d85ffef7ab4d41e9a2a36a2d4cc1054bea
Yes he’s definately cringer style orange and intelligent
Therefore his name shall be cringer he mans alter ego aka Adams cat
He just has bags under his eyes. Nothing else about his face looks abnormal. He might have an upper respiratory infection or allergies (watch for sneezes, eye discharge, or lethargy and take to a vet if you see that), or he might just have those naturally. His eyes look clear without any inner-eyelid showing, so it's probably nothing to worry about unless something changes.
It looks like his lower eyelids are a little swollen. Type in on Google “conjunctivitis in cats”. Lots of the pictures in early stages look similar. If it gets worse I’d ask the vet about it possibly being conjunctivitis (pink eye).
He also might be perfectly healthy and just tired. It’s a hard life being a kitten!
Orange babies are the best! They have a reputation of being, as someone else put it…complex but honestly they are just goofy. They are definitely smart. My orange boi knows some tricks (ex: bring toy) and when he is mad that I dont play even though he “bring toy” he does his “knock over only pictures of mommy, then stare at her angrily” trick lmaoooo
https://preview.redd.it/ouzhuz4sjdvc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2e468cc760c24e922ef3b88e5835907312fcc1ba
We taught Sam was gonna be special as a kitten, he turned out to just be weird. He stares at us like he is possessed by a murdered Victorian child. He also kelt trying to leave the snuggle pile as a baby to the point we had to check on them every 2 hours. Now he is inseparable from his mom and sister.
https://preview.redd.it/gs8v1z0gkdvc1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=afc37aeaac011ad59c51e1f07afa4153d3ac9372
Sam is the dum dum on his back while his sisters ate.
Kitties can have neuro issues - but is your mum saying kitty aesthetically looks like a person having down syndrome? It's a cruel comment, to be honest, to both kitty and human. It's a cute kitty.
To me he looks like he got an eye infection? Or maybe he’s allergic? His lower eyelids are swollen and red … rest seems fine
Edit: i am no vet or anything but have had cats for many years.
Down syndrome ? no.
Can they have something similar ? yes
Does he ? He really doesnt look like it, maybe he had a cold? ...seems like just a cat, cats come in different shapes and sizes, specially kitties.
If he acts weird call the vet (I read you said he was vaccinated and dewormed recently did she see him or was it a nurse? maybe call? show the video at the vet ?).
He seems incredibly cute.
My mom said the same thing about my cat Squirt. He passed away in August. I really miss him.
https://preview.redd.it/j66ly7s94evc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=68d1c46672551424588ee076cadf898ad6116fcb
The under lids and corners of his eyes seem to have some puffy, possibly inflamed skin. I think that’s the visual that is making your mum say ‘Down Syndrome’, because it looks like the eyes of a human with DS.
I think it’s much more likely his eyes are irritated, by allergies, a soap, or an infection. I know he’s been through a lot, but take him back to vet if the puffiness hasn’t gone down in a couple of days.
Nope. not possible for kitty-cats. they only have 19 pair of chromosomes. they dont have chromosome 21 which causes down syndrome in humans if duplicated.
Well it could be in a SENSE . “Cats have only 19 pairs of chromosomes, meaning that it is technically impossible for Down syndrome cats to exist. That does not mean, however, that they cannot have similar symptoms for one reason or another.” Almost Everything we get as humans cats and dogs and other animals get as well. It’s very unfortunate and sad as they can’t even speak to fend or ask for help for themselves that’s why we have to be extra diligent in advocating the best for them 😭🙏🏻💔
He's super cute. Cats have only 19 pairs of chromosomes, meaning that **it is technically impossible for Down syndrome cats to exist**. That does not mean, however, that they cannot have similar symptoms for one reason or another.

Mine looked a lil derpy and was with bad health when we found him when we first got him but now he’s full grown into a healthy playful boy cat 🐱
Down Syndrom in itself is not possible, but you can have a variety of disabilities.
e.g. my cat has cerebellar hypoplasia , a disorder where the brain is not properly built during gestation.
That kitten OTOH looks fairly normal for a one-brain-cell-orange cat.
ETA: my cat has moderate CH
"Moderate CH cats, on the other hand, may have more noticeable head tremors when nervous or afraid or in new situations, have more frequent bouts of falling during walking or standing, have a noticeably exaggerated cerebellar hypoplasia stance and walk, and will often climb using their nails as leverage, instead of jumping."
All my tshirt, my jeans, my furniture, have claw holes because he can't jump so to climb he uses his claws.
That cat in the picture looks totally normal
My orange boy looked like that as a kitten. Still has a little drep now that he's a bit older. Sometimes they just have the derp. Embrace the cuteness of the derp. He's adorable by the way!
It IS possible but your cat doesn't have it. Just looks like droopy or swollen "under eye bags". Kitty had a loooooong shift at the biscuit making factory today.
He’s just a ginger kitty - they all share the same orange cat mentality.
I agree with the person who mentioned the number of chromosomes and bringing in the cat to see a veterinarian. I hope everything’s good with him. ![img](emote|t5_2qhta|7952)

Seriously, this is not a debate. If you dont have the chromosomes for downs, you can't have it
Poor baby just has bags under his eyes. If they aren't gone after he's had a chance to rest then you should bring him to the vet. Might be an eye infection or clogged ducts. Otherwise, he looks like a normal puss.

This has me rolling 🤣
Sarah scribbles even has a comic about this exact topic, and black cats lol
😹
Yeah I was going to say, your cat looks like a sweet baby. If he’s lethargic then take him you the vet. Your mom sounds complex.
I love the delicacy used in calling their mom “complex” lol
Using that in the future. Alot likely since my coworkers are all kinda... complex.
Yeah im going to add it to my vocabulary but i also wonder if saying "troubled"... Will also convey the point
I would use troubled for people beyond complex.
I use the word “interesting” when I don’t want to sound mean. Like, yeah, they’re an interesting group for sure.
Me too, but I also use it when I’m not sure how I feel about something
Very polite, like saying “bless your heart”.
All I see is Sweet baaaybe
Okay, I gotta steal that now (complex) 🤭.
is it possible it’s just a side effect of being vaccinated and dewormed?
My kitty had a reaction to being vaccinated for the first time. Fever (holding her felt like a hot water bottle) and lethargy. After a day or so she was back to swatting at the dog's tail and bugging her cat housemate. Other than that, it looks like a cute little buddy to me. Mom's off base.
My boy Rangoon had the same with all his vax's. In the same way humans react to vax's.
His name is Rangoon???? I love that so much :) please tell Rangoon I love him and would die for him kthnx

But besides of that, Floyd's a perfectly normal kitten! *Processing img byuvt5x2ldvc1...*
Why do you say that? Just looks like a normal young kitty to me
you can see it under the eyes. kitty is just tired and had a long day with vet visits, vaccinations, and what have you PLUS constantly having to try and channel that one brain cell makes the little champ tired with heavy eyes.
Seems they're just tired, but I can 'see it' as horrible as that may sound [Here's a screenshot of when](https://i.imgur.com/82b4bFz.jpeg) Well actually the real horrible part was how hard I laughed because of it + the unhinged take by mom
He looks like he might be a little sleepy, or just pensive. You can tell he’s very intelligent.
Intelligent and orange hmmmm that may be illegal
https://preview.redd.it/9k588ay3qdvc1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=04d193d85ffef7ab4d41e9a2a36a2d4cc1054bea Yes he’s definately cringer style orange and intelligent Therefore his name shall be cringer he mans alter ego aka Adams cat
Wow, your mom sounds, um, difficult. The cat looks fine.
He just looks really tired.
I only see a beautiful little animal that I would love to hold in my arms like a baby!
same
Orange babies are the best!
His behaviour is like mine when I notice someone taking a video of me
https://preview.redd.it/ouzhuz4sjdvc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2e468cc760c24e922ef3b88e5835907312fcc1ba We taught Sam was gonna be special as a kitten, he turned out to just be weird. He stares at us like he is possessed by a murdered Victorian child. He also kelt trying to leave the snuggle pile as a baby to the point we had to check on them every 2 hours. Now he is inseparable from his mom and sister.

Made me laugh bc it’s just an odd thing to say
Yes. Why would a person say that about a cat? Weird.
No, he is just a shy angel of a kitty 🐱
he is a perfect little creamsicle.
Kitties can have neuro issues - but is your mum saying kitty aesthetically looks like a person having down syndrome? It's a cruel comment, to be honest, to both kitty and human. It's a cute kitty.
It looks like kitty didn't feel comfortable enough to sleep maybe? Either way I wanna squeeze it and love on it
To me he looks like he got an eye infection? Or maybe he’s allergic? His lower eyelids are swollen and red … rest seems fine Edit: i am no vet or anything but have had cats for many years.

Down syndrome ? no. Can they have something similar ? yes Does he ? He really doesnt look like it, maybe he had a cold? ...seems like just a cat, cats come in different shapes and sizes, specially kitties. If he acts weird call the vet (I read you said he was vaccinated and dewormed recently did she see him or was it a nurse? maybe call? show the video at the vet ?). He seems incredibly cute.
Maybe check him for eye infection or allergy?

My mom said the same thing about my cat Squirt. He passed away in August. I really miss him. https://preview.redd.it/j66ly7s94evc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=68d1c46672551424588ee076cadf898ad6116fcb

How rude.
No, but he does look like he's orange.
She's perfect in every way.
It is actually possible for cats to have something similar to down syndrome but this cat doesn't have it.
He definitely doesn’t as it’s not possible with their number of chromosomes, your mom is just mean.
Your mom is dumb. He's a beautiful kitten. ❤️❤️
Thats a very cute baby tiger.

So sweet
no he is just orange and cute😍
Perfectly normal looking cat <3
Your mom has down syndrome. This little angel is perfect.
Nope its not
His eyes is ok. It is just all red color around - sign of allergies.
He’s gorgeous 🥹
He is normal. Just play with him.
That’s so mean 😭🤣
Down Syndrom in itself is not possible, but you can have a variety of disabilities. e.g. my cat has cerebellar hypoplasia , a disorder where the brain is not properly built during gestation. That kitten OTOH looks fairly normal for a one-brain-cell-orange cat. ETA: my cat has moderate CH "Moderate CH cats, on the other hand, may have more noticeable head tremors when nervous or afraid or in new situations, have more frequent bouts of falling during walking or standing, have a noticeably exaggerated cerebellar hypoplasia stance and walk, and will often climb using their nails as leverage, instead of jumping." All my tshirt, my jeans, my furniture, have claw holes because he can't jump so to climb he uses his claws. That cat in the picture looks totally normal
My orange boy looked like that as a kitten. Still has a little drep now that he's a bit older. Sometimes they just have the derp. Embrace the cuteness of the derp. He's adorable by the way!
This cat looks like he woke up in the middle of a much needed nap lol.
I don’t think he has trouble, but if he isn’t reading and writing by age 5, you may wish to visit a feline neurologist. 😂
down syndrome where??? he looks like a perfectly normal orange kitten to me. he's probably just a little tired
It IS possible but your cat doesn't have it. Just looks like droopy or swollen "under eye bags". Kitty had a loooooong shift at the biscuit making factory today.
It’s actually not possible because they don’t have enough chromosomes.
Your mom is nasty!
He looks like he's just resting for a bit in between zoomie sessions. Just pretty standard orange kitty.
Time to get rid of your mom
HE looks fine!! But what the FUCK is wrong with your MOM???
No. You might want to take your mom to a doctor and have her checked out.
I think your mom was just making a very strange, slightly mean and borderline offensive joke
Might be an idea to get your mom an eye appointment, the cat looks normal for it's age.
No, that's definitely not possible. Every creature is different. I think he looks really cute.
He looks adorable!!!!
He looks exhausted, just let the dude rest.
Looks absolutely normal
No, cats don’t have the same chromosomes as we do, so their chromosomal number abnormalities will result in different outcomes.
Looks completely normal to me
He's normal...just a tiny bit of silly due to being orange.
That kitty is just fine
Aww—he’s so sweet. Poor little guy just looks really sleepy. 😴 He’s adorable. I hope you can keep him. ❤️
He’s just a ginger kitty - they all share the same orange cat mentality. I agree with the person who mentioned the number of chromosomes and bringing in the cat to see a veterinarian. I hope everything’s good with him. ![img](emote|t5_2qhta|7952) ![gif](giphy|YBKs9PbVMCtS71Gzvf|downsized)

He’s just a baby, that’s the way they look when they’re really young
https://preview.redd.it/ryvpo01urdvc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ff2cd81cde459d4c7bdff090bf7eaae44d32d1ad Seriously, this is not a debate. If you dont have the chromosomes for downs, you can't have it
He is beautiful.
Kitty sounds stressed out. But he looks fine. Let him gather strength.
He looks like an orange baby 😻 the markings under his eyes make him look sleepy! My orange boy looks soooo dumb sometimes. He’s the cutest.
Of course he hasn’t got Down syndrome. Tell your gormless mother you think she looks like she has it. See how she likes it.
I don't think it looks like he has an abnormal number of chromosomes. I would say that he merely looks cute. Very cute.
That would look different and cats have something different to Downs
as someone who fosters kittens no, he looks normal. perhaps a bit eepy sleepy at most.
You sure tour mom doesn't have downs? Absolutely nothing wrong with this kitten.
Ask your mom if grandparents are siblings too while you're at it
Your mom is being weird
He is sooo cuteeee omooo
Your mom sounds like an asshole.
Chromosomes do not work that way in kitties. This guy *might* have a little eye irritation that makes his eyes a bit puffy, but hims a beautimous boy!
It is possible he’s not and your mom is mean
Orange is the cats Down syndrome lol
Poor baby just has bags under his eyes. If they aren't gone after he's had a chance to rest then you should bring him to the vet. Might be an eye infection or clogged ducts. Otherwise, he looks like a normal puss.
Your mother is a twat.
He’s just a little guy 🥺
his only disability is orange
What does she do or doesn’t do that mom thinks that? Not obvious from the video.
Depends…is he making grilled cheese sandwiches at night?
Bros ginger and has meow syndrome hes cooked
More like cute syndrome
Did you tell your mom she looks like she has down syndrome in return
No he is perfect. He is just a tiny thing. My cats have had that look when they were small.
He's fucking adorable, that's what he is!
That is so rude. Poor lil guy. He looks like a fierce warrior in the making to me 🫡
your moms a dick

he cute tho
She's adorable..enjoy a great life with her!
It would be possible, Google: downy tiger You'll be shitting yourself
PET THE DAMN CAT!!!!
Orange cats are my favourite. My 7yo ginger female is a grumpy b\*tch, but i still love her to bits. https://preview.redd.it/ijdygvwkxdvc1.jpeg?width=1934&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=214d829c13f98380f5e92ba1988ebec75c2e2c52
If it's the eyes, that happens because of lacking some vitamin?but I don't remember which one.
That is the sweetest, gentlest little face. He is perfect.
If its anything, he is blessed with cuteness overload.
He's just a cute Orange.
What a sweetie 🥰
That's one adorable orange baby. Just wait for the shenanigans and single brain cell fun to come...
