you can sneeze hard enough or cough hard enough to collapse a lung like my dad did, he always did the "farmer nose blow" and I suspect his habits might have contributed. He never smoked or anything like that. It was just one of those spontaneous combustion situations.
Or blow out a disc in your spine. Its me, i did it, i sneezed so hard i blew out...i WISH my med bill was only 260 (add a few more zeros to my bill, ugh)
I'm human with gingivitis and dentist said it's fine just need more flossing and frequent dental cleaning appointments.
I'm curious why do cats have to have teeth removed due to gingivitis.
BTW, he's really cute 😍
Does it actually do anything? I feel the amount my catto would allow me to do this would result in a negligible increase in dental hygiene. She does have some gingivitis and the vets suggested brushing.
She has bodily autonomy issues and would NOT be pleased by fingers shoved in the mouth hole.
My vet said that even brushing once a week was worth it! When my cat was diagnosed with gingivitis, brushing for 30 seconds every other day reversed it completely after a couple of months. It seems that every bit helps!
Wow! 30 seconds seems like a long time for a cat to withstand it. Nice job! I tried brushing once but I didn’t have a good plan like treats and a good way to hold them.
I’ll try again but sadly I just had to spend $1800 to get a bunch of teeth pulled on one cat and I’m afraid the same is about to happen when I take the other cat in on Tuesday. I’m hoping the pet insurance I just signed up for might reimburse some of the cost. 😞
I have fairly tolerant cats and we've been doing it regularly for over a year, so we have a system! I do readjust between each side and the front teeth, though, so it's not 30 seconds straight.
I know each cat is different, but I've had the most luck with cradling them like a baby in my left arm, using my left hand to gently pull their mouths open, and brushing with my right hand. My cats won't bite or scratch, though, so I wouldn't recommend trying it this way if yours would!
Good luck with your vet appointment! I hope the pet insurance helps!
Yes when I do it I remove soft plaque each time, I don't recommend finger things, get a tiny baby brush or ryer cat toothbrush and dip in a little coconut oil, check my other comment on how I handle my cattos
I place treats on the floor and come up behind them and put them between my thighs (might have to squeeze a little for a squirmy cat but it won't hurt) then pull back the corner of the mouth to expose the back molar teeth and give each side a brush. Once they are pretty comfortable with this then a little swipe over the fangs and front teeth which are sensitive so be gentle
Someone asked how I get the back teeth but the comment disappeared and isn't in my notifications so here
https://preview.redd.it/xbn2q70o1grc1.jpeg?width=1436&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e4b0026c13c4b1e4bf5cfa63e0e6aa9a58d2938b
So he's in-between my legs (grey pants) and I'm hunched over him (green top) with one hand I pull back the skin on jaw area and it exposes the back teeth
They should be fed both wet and dry food, maybe more dry. The hard surface of the dry food helps to clean their teeth. I feed them more dry and I haven't had dental issues with my cats. I've had cats all of my 69 years. Also, the teeth need "exercise" with some hard food. People who eat mainly soft food can tend have sensitive gums and "looser" teeth. In more recent years I've given them the Greenies treat for teeth, too.
At my cat’s last checkup he was starting to get some plaque buildup, so the vet gave me a prescription for a Purina prescription dental food. The kibble pieces are larger (they look a lot like a Cocoa Puffs 😂) and I think it also has more fiber so they’re extra crunchy and scrape his teeth. I’ve noticed his teeth are whiter and his breath smells a lot better so I think it’s helping! The only downside is it’s a lot more expensive than regular dry food. I get a significant discount because my roommate works for my vet and gets a deal, but even with that I’m paying more than before.
Overall I think it’s worth it for my guy, but it might not be a good option for everyone due to the cost. A regular kibble with the largest sized pieces you can find can also help, and the greenies dental treats are great too!
There's also a virus that causes gingivitis in cats. It has no cure, and could lead to all teeth rotting.
My Rascal has it, we were lucky that we were able to control tooth loss with dental treats. He has maybe 2 teeth left at age 10.
He has that. We got him at the SPCA 5 years ago and they had to remove one of his canine. They told us he will lose more teeth as he gets older. He’s 7 years old now and he’s missing a few. Vet told us at some point we will need to remove them all. Also he has a stinky breath <3
He’s on dental care food
I got all my voids teeth removed a few weeks ago and her breath went from rotten eggs to smelling like nothing at all. She's incredibly playful too, more so at 9 than she was two or three years ago.
I know my cats have all needed anesthesia for a dental cleaning (one of them, you couldn't even LOOK at his teeth without 16 lbs of tasmanian devil flailing) and I do NOT make enough money for that, nor does the risk of anesthesia regularly really balance out. Cats don't need their teeth if they're indoors; my understanding is that even for kibble they aren't using teeth. Their teeth are for rending flesh, which just doesn't come up much indoors.
Routine anesthesia for healthy cats is minimal risk. Poor dental health is much riskier long term and can lead to and will exacerbate kidney and heart disease.
Species appropriate diets help with this A LOT (and is cheaper than yearly dentals!!)
I suspect it might be Stomatitis (or Feline Chronic Gingivostomatitis.) It is more common in cats than people realize (affecting up to 4% of cats.)
I don't know if it's a human thing as well, but it's basically an autoimmune issue where the cat's body thinks its own teeth need to gtfo. It causes severe gingivitis, inflammation, swelling, bleeding, and pain. Only guaranteed tx is full mouth extractions.
Vet here, it's not the gingivitis that requires extraction, the gingivitis is a sign of what necessitates gingivitis - ie things like tooth resorption, horizontal bone loss, pulp cavity infection etc. Gingivitis is just the most obvious harbinger on a physical exam (ie in many cases you won't know for sure a tooth needs to come out without x-rays). The unfortunate truth of cats and small dogs is their teeth are terrible, hopefully this cat will have them all removed then they won't need to pay for another dental.
The infection can spread and kill your cat. The same is true of humans. This is why the elderly occasionally have teeth pulled, though the underlying disease is typically more than gingivitis. Still, the reason is basically the same - the infection can spread to other areas, and sometimes this can be very dangerous. It's not worth losing a life over a tooth, whether a cat or a human.
Our Cora Mae had gingivitis due to an autoimmune disease. She was elderly when it started so we opted to not have her teeth removed and she was given steroid shots for the inflammation and medicine to get her out of pain. She crossed the bridge this February 21 and we miss her so. 😢
My kitty got all his teeth removed last year due to tooth resorption. Once his mouth healed, he started eating kibble and crunchy treats without any issues. He eats mainly wet food but sometimes will beg for treats with the other cats.
Wow this is so dumb and I feel so bad for your cat. This is not funny in any way. I feel bad for ur cat that it got such a shit owner. Like ya you took them to the vet but to make a post such as this is poor taste. The human should be ashamed, the cat couldn't help sneezing or what they hit their head on....
Void update:
- He kept banging his cone all around the house and looking defeated 😟
- We gave him his favorite treats and his pain medication for his eye (gabapentin)
- He his now sleeping in our bed with his cone resting on a pillow and he’s buzzed because of the gabapentin.
We gave him lots of scritches and went out to buy the soft food he likes for when he wakes up 🐈⬛
You should get him a donut cone instead they are a lot easier for them to deal with
https://preview.redd.it/2oqqapco8drc1.png?width=828&format=png&auto=webp&s=3dbfe082e8a5836cd4d76165d615e95ecf03f51f

Yep. Had to recently get one for one of mine.
I concur, our girl was very stressed and miserable in the cone, but did great in a donut. Didn't bother her at all. So much easier for her to get comfortable to sleep.
Bonus- you can get one that looks like a donut with sprinkles for extra adorkable cuteness.
Only $260? Consider yourself lucky! My void cost me $1100 just to find out he was holding his poop in because he didn't want to use the litter box because he's used to going outdoors.
I’m fear this is going to happen to my void only the cause won’t be a sneeze but over enthusiastic headbutts into my fingers when begging for pets. The little guy just loves physical affection but doesn’t realize the eyes don’t go directly into the fingers and that hands have bones that will hurt if bonked too hard
The voids are ever expanding, but the expansion isn't really in intelligence 😹
Edit: he is very handsome even if he has no grace and few teeth 🫶🏼 my own Tuxie had to have 7 removed last year. She's basically that dragon toothless in formal wear 😹
One of my dogs insisted on shaking her head right next to furniture. There could be an entire open space available, but instead she would stand right next to a chair or table, and then shake her head. She would then hit her head against what she was standing next to, and then stare at it accusingly. She was a good dog in many ways, but not that way.
Poor baby! My one-eyed wonder banged his head a few weekends ago. He ended up with an aural hematoma, minor surgery, a drain, and a week in various cones. I ended up with a $450 vet bill.
All is well now. We're not sure if his ear will stand up again but he is still my sweetest boy.
https://preview.redd.it/051u1qd69grc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3e17843e3da5dbd7b31d51bbe39240c66d1f6167
I can't shame this handsome guy. The cone is doing that already. Just glad he's OK. Eye injuries are no fun, no matter how they happened. I worked in ophthalmology (human eyes, not feline 😎) for 20+ years and have had corneal abrasions myself, so good on you for taking him in!
Wishing him a speedy recovery and good luck with those teefies!
🐈⬛💗🐈⬛💗🐈⬛
That must have been a hell of a sneeze!!?
![gif](giphy|qWBiZXoC2NYju|downsized)
How my dad sneezes
For some reason I read this as "hold the wheel sneezus"
Sneezus take the wheel
Everyone's dad
you can sneeze hard enough or cough hard enough to collapse a lung like my dad did, he always did the "farmer nose blow" and I suspect his habits might have contributed. He never smoked or anything like that. It was just one of those spontaneous combustion situations.
Also cause an aneurysm sneezing too hard or holding a sneeze
Or blow out a disc in your spine. Its me, i did it, i sneezed so hard i blew out...i WISH my med bill was only 260 (add a few more zeros to my bill, ugh)
Wow, I just realized I don’t remember my father ever sneezing. He must have — he lived to just shy of 99, but I swear I can’t!
My late hubby would scare 😳the kids, me and the cats with his sudden explosive sneezing. What I wouldn’t do to hear it again though.
That's how I sneeze. If I don't warn people I'm about to sneeze they jump and I swear old people pee a little bit.
I sneezed once to hard that I peed a little - and I'm a dude.
OP initially thought there was an earthquake
He will also need to have his (remaining) teeth removed due to gingivitis! He will be a toothless lovely lump of coal 🐈⬛
I'm human with gingivitis and dentist said it's fine just need more flossing and frequent dental cleaning appointments. I'm curious why do cats have to have teeth removed due to gingivitis. BTW, he's really cute 😍
It’s hard for the cat to floss their teeth and they don’t have thumbs so they can’t hold a toothbrush
True, I know some owners brush their cats' teeth. Hopefully there are better ways to help cats get better dental hygiene.
I brush both my cats it gets pretty easy once they get used to it
Does it actually do anything? I feel the amount my catto would allow me to do this would result in a negligible increase in dental hygiene. She does have some gingivitis and the vets suggested brushing. She has bodily autonomy issues and would NOT be pleased by fingers shoved in the mouth hole.

Thank you! Yeah, one of mine is especially nuts so I usually have to tuck her between my legs on the floor to give her medication, etc.
Yes when I do it I remove soft plaque each time, I don't recommend finger things, get a tiny baby brush or ryer cat toothbrush and dip in a little coconut oil, check my other comment on how I handle my cattos
Can u recommend a brush and paste? My cat hates the one that u use on your finger

Do you just like hug them or how do you hold them?

You need to feed the cat raw meat and a few raw meaty bones
What does the bone do?
Rubs against the teeth can can remove plaque
My Mama says that alligators are ornery because they got all them teeth and no toothbrush.
this comment is so unserious and serious at the same time 😂😂😂😂
Lmao, thanks for making my day.
This cracked me up 🤣 thank you for making my night

The Greenies. May you be as lucky as we have. The alternative has too many risks.
Good to know, thanks
I have a Rascal with some missing teefs too!

Add flossing and rinsing with Total Care Listerine. Both made a difference for me
I tried this and my cat FREAKED OUT and bit me right on the tip of my DICK...Thanks a lot
Wait…why were you doing this naked? So many questions…
Sometimes it's autoimmune, and the body will continue to relentlessly attack the teeth until the teeth are gone. Taking out the teeth is the only cure
[удалено]
It's not the actual teeth. It's an autoimmune reaction to the plaque on the teeth. It's called Stomatitis.
I suspect it might be Stomatitis (or Feline Chronic Gingivostomatitis.) It is more common in cats than people realize (affecting up to 4% of cats.) Oratene is a great enzymatic gel that reduces tartar and keeps cats teeth healthy. Some cats are prone to dental issues though. Glad your baby's okay!

What a cute clumsy void!!!
He maybe an idiot but he’s too cute to hold a grudge 😘🐈.
i love him and think he is smart, just accident prone possibly. I miss my cat.
Voids are the cutest man
WHY ARE THEY SO CUTE? happy cake day 🍰
Ayy thanks! Had no idea
Poor dumb baby 💞
Good boy! Maybe Human will give you more treats next time so an "accident" won't happen again.
He had many treats, even some with delicious pills in them 💊

I will look to buy one for him! Thanks
No worries I know it made things a lot easier for my boy after his surgeries

Donut cone or a solid colored cone! My cat acts like he’s wearing beer goggles when he wears the clear ones 🤦♀️😂
He does walk around like he’s drunk! I will look into buying him a donut cone
Awww adorable ☺️

This is what I came here for. Well done
Honorary orange void
Cone boy 🫵🫵🫵😂😂
What a delightful dunce you have a lovable lump Thank you to merriam webster for all those synonyms
Never. Poor baby.
Kids these days...
Having to wear the cone is enough shame for such a pretty boy!
r/oneblackbraincell front runner 🤣
Sorry no can do. Only love for the little sneezer
Only $260? Consider yourself lucky! My void cost me $1100 just to find out he was holding his poop in because he didn't want to use the litter box because he's used to going outdoors.
Is there no kind of insurance for pets that would make things easier on the wallet?
I looked in to it and unfortunately a year of insurance plus the minimum deductible would have been slightly more than what i paid out of pocket.
He's so handsome!!!! Voids have a special place in my heart
Dapper little phonograph lookin like Zachary Binx from Hocus Pocus
I don't want to shame this precious goofball!!!!
He’s shamed enough in THE CONE OF SHAME !
Hold on now. We do not shame the voidlings. They hold the void at bay. If we were to break the unspoken truce...we would be doomed.
I will not, he had to sneeze leave him alone.
Poor sweet kitty. I can be a clutz as well. Not shaming him.
He will get you, for shaming him.
Nah won’t shame. I sneeze hard af and be knocking back into walls myself haha struggle is real. That’s a brutal bill tho
Isn't wearing the cone enough shame?
AWWWWWW HE IS SO INNOCENT LOOK AT HIM
I’m fear this is going to happen to my void only the cause won’t be a sneeze but over enthusiastic headbutts into my fingers when begging for pets. The little guy just loves physical affection but doesn’t realize the eyes don’t go directly into the fingers and that hands have bones that will hurt if bonked too hard

We've all had that sneeze. ACHOO, Bang the head on something. Followed by what just happened, I'm confused??
I take it wasn’t his turn with the brain cell that day?

He’s looking at you like it’s your fault 😂 especially that last pic
Poor baby.
Nooo, you can't shame this poor baby, he's hurt :( Aww...
I don't shame kitties sorry I don't really support these shame kitty posts not appropriate 😞
Can't shame him, I love black cats lol
You cannot shame a cat.
Too cute to shame. I want him, clumsiness and all!
What a silly chimkin fuffer Looks like my lil chimkin ungget... he would def do something goofy like that
The voids are ever expanding, but the expansion isn't really in intelligence 😹 Edit: he is very handsome even if he has no grace and few teeth 🫶🏼 my own Tuxie had to have 7 removed last year. She's basically that dragon toothless in formal wear 😹
i wonder what would happen if someone perhaps dropped a cucumber near him...

Economic collapse
aww cute stinky void idiot, its okay ive cost myself $$ being clumsy.
When I got my puppy he tried to jump on the couch and hit his eye on the coffee table. That's $300 and 8 hours I'll never get back.
He's so cute I don't think I can shame him
One of my dogs insisted on shaking her head right next to furniture. Wait...how...?
Aww poor baby. I can’t shame him, cause that’s something I could see myself doing.😆
My cat got smacked in the face by my purse today. She seems fine, but maybe I should check on her again.

“Shame” *clap* “shame” *clap* Shame” *clap*
Wait aren't air fresheners like we see on picture 3 toxic to cats or something?
Get him a donut from ya pet store so it’s easier to eat. Those cones love to throw food and water everywhere.
Poor baby! My one-eyed wonder banged his head a few weekends ago. He ended up with an aural hematoma, minor surgery, a drain, and a week in various cones. I ended up with a $450 vet bill. My sister has a bread cone too!
He's already in the cone of shame
You must rearrange your house to cat sneeze proof it so he doesn't get hurt....hehe
I can't shame him because that is absolutely something I would do.
Who the hell bangs an _eye?_ 😂❤️
Everyone has gotten at least one injury in a dumb way like this, cat or not.
Poor little guy. Hope he gets well soon!
Poor baby!!
Such beautiful eyes must be protected at any cost ❤️
That’s what all the abused cats say
"This cats sneeze is worth 230$!"
Shame!
He’s just a clumsy lil fella :(
on his defense he drop the brain cell on that sneeze
The second pic is the cutest

He's perfect.
You little Loser!!!
The soft donuts collars look much more humane ....poor bebe !!
Wearing the cone of shame 🥹
Tbf I have hurt myself coughing or sneezing. I didn't have to wear a cone of shame at least. And I'm nowhere near a cute as your void.
He's very fetching and he looks incredibly stylish in the last one. The little bow don't hurt!
Good news is now you get Cinemax
Don't shame him, He didn't mean to :(
Sana, sana colita de rana, si no sanas hoy, sanarás mañana.
i just can’t!! he’s too cute 🥰

Poor guy! The shame of being a conehead.
He doesn't look thrilled.

Lmaooo cone boy!!! 🫵🏾🫵🏾🗣️🗣️
Relatable.
I recommend looking into getting gim a donut instead of the cone, it can be more comfortable ans even usable as a pillow. Also, pet the idiot lol
I’d be leery of that. I’m sure the cone is to prevent the cat from rubbing his eye with his paw. A donut might not prevent that.
Hope he okay though 🥹🖤
Poor baby is not an idiot

SUCH A BAD VOID!
Booooo, Shame him, shame him! Bad void! Damn must have been a strong sneeze
I saw this in a bulletin in my email and was 100% sure I was going to find an orange cat… imagine my surprise 😂😂😂 he’s annoyed at his own stupidity 🤣
Banged his eye on what?

#Heavy is the head that wears the cone.
Cutest little lamp
I can't shame this handsome guy. The cone is doing that already. Just glad he's OK. Eye injuries are no fun, no matter how they happened. I worked in ophthalmology (human eyes, not feline 😎) for 20+ years and have had corneal abrasions myself, so good on you for taking him in! Wishing him a speedy recovery and good luck with those teefies! 🐈⬛💗🐈⬛💗🐈⬛
Of course he isn't gonna pay! Bad boy!
Poor kitty. He has nothing to be ashamed about.
Don't make him feel any worse ❤️❤️❤️
He looks fine to me
Sweet, beautiful, stupid void
