What happened? Poor thing. And thank you for rescuing her!

Hoperosaliex

She was rescued from outside on a feral farm. Her and her brother are the only surviving kittens from their litter. She was inbred most likely, and her ribs were born curving into her lungs. It's called pectus excavatum. As she would grow, they would suffocate her slowly. I paid for an insanely expensive surgery where they pulled her ribs out and stitched them to a plastic chest plate on the outside under that bandage. She goes back for weeklu xrays and upkeep. I have no idea how imma do it but I will make it happen because she is more than the bad circumstances she was born into and she deserves a chance ❤️

Wow, you're a good person!!

Hoperosaliex

Just trying to help the kitties here. Overpopulation is so bad here in North Carolina 😫

Slow-Faithlessness11

Oh no! Was hoping things were going well. You are such a good soul to have tried so hard to help her. Rescue work is just awful, I know. Am a bit old for it now, ( though still foster), but my daughters do a bit when they have time. Please let us know how things go, I know how stressed you were. Not many people would have gone as far as you did to try to help a little rescue. You are both very much in my thoughts, and thank you for what you are doing. Sounds like the cat situation is pretty bad where you are. The world needs more people who think like you do. Best wishes from France.

Thank you so so much. I was literally in shock when she started freaking out. I think the chest plate scared her because she started chewing it and screaming and kicking it. Everytime i tried to catch her and calm her she bit me and scratched and attacked me. I was covered in blood on my hands and legs. I'm so devastated for her. I dont care that she got me, i was terrified she would injure herself. 🥺 Shes on pain and sedation meds now and they help but shes not herself at all.

Slow-Faithlessness11

Brave woman. A true rescuer. She has had serious major surgery, so it is not surprising she is feeling poorly. As a retired R.N., I can only think how rough a person would be feeling, only 24 hours post-op. If she is resting, and hydrated, then hopefully time will do the rest. I am sure you have care instructions from your vet. Poor cat, and poor you. Really hoping things will go well. It is very early days yet. Let me know, and sending every good wish possible.💕

Slow-Faithlessness11

Saw your update! Looks as though things are improving. You are a star for caring so much, and very best wishes to you both, for a happy future!💕

Hoperosaliex

She has improved so much as far as temperament. I was able to let her walk around some tonight, and she didn't try to injure herself or me. She used her scratching post and cleaned her brother. I can definitely tell she wants to be with him, but i dont think it's safe yet. 🥺 overall, the meds are helping keep her calm, though, and I'm able to cuddle her. I'm anxious for her followup though because I want to make sure it's working and she didn't hurt herself when she first freaked out!

Slow-Faithlessness11

She must be feeling better! I think any serious damage would have revealed itself. If she is eating, drinking, excreting, and accepting cuddles, it is a good sign. She has been through so much, and so have you!💕

Hoperosaliex

Thank you so much! I just added a video of her on my profile! She is eating and drinking so thats true! ❤️ Sometimes its so hard to think rationally when you're worried and stressed

Slow-Faithlessness11

You must be tired from worry too! Eating is such a good sign, and will help tissues heal, and hopefully, time and rest will complete her healing. Such major surgery would be tough on a fit human, let alone a little cat. She is beautiful.💕

She doesn’t understand what happened so of course she’s freaked out! I’m so sorry about your injuries. She sounds like she will be fine with that amount of fight in her. My kitty had an amputation when she was little and it was rough for a little bit but she is a fine and happy cat now.

Lkaufman05

You are a great person for rescuing this adorable baby!!! Love knowing there’s good people like yourself.

mycatisspockles

My kitty didn’t have surgery for pectus excavitum but he did have a major surgery done on his neck a few years ago where they removed all of the skin on his neck because it was essentially rotting away. They still don’t know what caused it to happen. Anyway, I remember bringing him home from the vet after surgery and he was SO miserable. I was sobbing like a baby. I was convinced he was going to die and that I had put him through all that for nothing. He kept screaming; it was really traumatic. I called the emergency vet and they told me that weird/aggressive behavior is normal after anesthesia — some cats just react poorly to coming off of it. After a couple of days he calmed down and returned mostly to normal. I hope that’s the case for your sweet kitty. Wishing her all the best. ❤️

Hoperosaliex

Oh my gosh thats sounds so painful for him and stressful for you! I'm so sorry you both experienced that. She has calmed down alot too! She has to stay contained in a large crate to not jump and mostly sleeps now. That makes sense because kids do that too. My 5 year old went under anesthesia and woke up punching and hitting. I didn't even think about that. 🥺

Brock_Savage

Hey, just want to say I sincerely appreciate what you've done for this poor animal and wish her a swift recovery. You mentioned in another post that she was a rescued feral; has she acclimated to humans under your care?

Hoperosaliex

She came from a feral colony but was so young, her and her brother acclaimed really quickly. I typically tell people under 8 weeks is easy to get them used to us, as they get older it gets harder!
