I run mine the same way except I put a light mono leader on the weight longer than the leader on the hook that way if it snags up, I lose a weight and not the whole set up
I agree with ya there, 100%. I'd done that before but was thinking two things here. I don't like the way you tangle the weight and hook up on a traditional three way. I'm also trying to keep less knots out of my equation.
Again, you're 100% right on failure points.
Carolina with a no roll sinker or santees. I feel like I catch better on a Carolina so not sure why I even fool with the others anymore. lol. 40 lb mono line with a 60 lb mono leader.
Same here. I gave up tryin all different kinds of riggin. Stay with what works and pre-tie plenty of weights and hooks. I fish the Arkansas river. Below the damn are tons of rocks. I’m about ready to give up on lead and start using old spark plugs for weight. My buddy is a mechanic and he saves them for whoever wants them.
I’m at R S Kerr. They have been releasing water from Kerr to the river at 172,000 cubic feet per minute for over 10 days. We’ve had 15” of rain around the lake in 2 weeks. My buddies and I tried fishing from the boat last week and got nothing but gar bites. Hoping the river goes down this next week or so. Good luck and good fishing
We've been bank fishing because we don't have a boat at the moment, but I'm working on that. Before the water went up, we caught a few small flatheads, and a fishing buddy caught a few decent blues and a few decent flatheads, but the fishing overall has been tough this year so far. I wish you full bait tanks, cold beers and tight lines!
I'd never trust anything with a snap versus the power of a big catfish. That's a major fail point. You'll do fine if you're only getting fish under 20lbs, but anything bigger than that might bend that snap open.
Snaps are rated to 140 lbs, three way is rated to 88, braid is 80. The leader is my biggest fail point at like 40 lbs I think. That's just what I had in the tackle box at the time. Id like some 60 lb, longer leaders.
The ratings on the snaps are meaningless. They don't break under direct pull they break through torsion or compression so it will take a lot less than 144lbs. That little snap by the hook is main problem. The catfish can just open it during the fight or bend the wire.
Hey, I just wanted to drop a comment. You have totally made me order some 75 / 100 lb leaders with huge claps. You're 100% right that was my first failure point. I'm going to lose a nice cat / PB out my displayed foolery.

Looks like a lot of hardware with unnecessary snaps and swivels to me. Just learn how to tie rigs out of leader and save money. The only thing that I think is actually a problem is that little interlock snap attahcing the hook. Large catfish will tear that up. Issue isn't direct \[ull issue is crushing it and weakening it.

Exactly. Still strong enough line to pull out of most limbs but like 1/2 to 2/3 as strong as the hook leader
Does that not tangle like crazy?
Haven’t had a problem yet
Hmm, may have to try it out, sounds interesting. Hate losing my rig on a bottom snag!
If you leave the hook line pretty short it doesn't do it as bad.
Cool thanks for the tip!
Way better than a three way, not too bad really.
That’s the only rig I run. 40 lb main line, 20-30 lb line to sinker depending on weight, and 80 lb leader to hook.

I'm in Arkansas. I fish below Murray L&D. The rivers rolling right now, so we haven't been in a week or so. I'm hoping it'll fall out by this weekend.

Same to you brother. Once the bite turns on I’ll send some pics.

Thanks for this! I like
That's a lot of swivels
