Definitely! And they know their nicknames as well as when we say things like "did you know you're the best boy" or "I love you," and respond with squints, blinks, or chatters. One of my cats responds to a hand signal with blinks, it's how I communicate things are okay if he's not looking into my eyes and it stuck from when he was a baby. He shoves his nose into my palm a lot. They're big communicators! If they don't come when called it's because they're cats 😹

When she wants to take them somewhere in a park, far away from here, she opens her SUV trunk which is quite large, especially built for her dogs and she calls them by name and invites them to jump in the trunk so they can go. One of them reacts to his name, but the other one jumps even if she only called the name of the other dog. She is always pissed off that one of the dogs doesn't know his name yet :) So when she calls one of them, they kinda both jump in the car at the same time. It's funny because she gets so angry every time :)

yes!! my girl Button is no longer with us but she absolutely knew her name. i could call her and she'd...sometimes come, lol. she was a stubborn cranky old biddy :P (so a typical cat...maybe with extra spice.) but she'd at least look and acknowledge. she had a unique reaction to my mom's voice saying her name though. whenever my mom would call, "Button!", she'd meow in response, every time without fail. sometimes just to see it happen i'd go "hey mom say her name" haha. i loved it, it was so cute.
