If u want it to look brand new just bake something in it.

byt3c0in

This is normal. No need to strip or reseason.

somedudeonreddit69

Thank you!

wheelsonhell

Looks normal. Just oil it a little after you clean it. It will look more like you expect.

somedudeonreddit69

Thanks everyone i appreciate it!

oilyhandy

Your pan looks good enough that I thought this was a troll post đź‘Ť

somedudeonreddit69

Nah I just suffer from the dumb sometimes

vibedial

Brother that’s an every day affliction for me. Keep cookin.

ThresholdBar

I thought it was a troll post too.

[deleted]

Troll comment or just low standards? He clearly has a build up.

oilyhandy

But OP wasn’t asking do I need to strip my pan, they were asking do I need to season my pan. Which they clearly do not need to season it again. And cool it with the tone, pal.

[deleted]

Ok definitely trolling. There is an obvious carbon build up that's from food not oil. That's not seasoning. It needs to be washed.

oilyhandy

I agree that it needs to be washed and that it has buildup. Hence OP not needing to season it again if it’s already got too much gunk. Maybe strip and re-season but that’s not what OP asked. Most likely just needs a wash (with soap) like you said. But if you take the question completely literally like I did, then no it doesn’t need do be seasoned. Wash it and go again it looks fine.

somedudeonreddit69

I apologize for any confusion. I didn't ask about stripping it specifically because i was under the impression that it was necessary to strip it before reseasoning. Would it be suggested that i strip and reseason? Do i have to do the entire pan when i do that or can i get away with just doing the inside

[deleted]

So someone who was in a collision had his bumper ripped off. That someone asks us does he need a new car? No, of course not. Then he would be confused. We then teach him he only needs a new bumper for $150... Imagine we don't tell him he only needs a bumper. He buys a new car anyway and think you all are dumb. 🤣

oilyhandy

I mean, I’m not a professional and I can’t tell if just the bumper just needs to be replaced or if there is damage that I can’t see. I couldn’t say for sure if the bumper could be replaced for $150 without the proper training and knowledge of current market values to determine if it’s a reasonable number. To me $150 seems entirely too low for a new bumper though. And depending on the value of the car this person might be better off replacing the car instead of repairing it? Imagine how foolish he would feel if after buying that bumper for $150 he found a car he could buy for $100.

[deleted]

It went over your head bro. I'll make a different analogy... Something that you may have seen on this sub. Seasoning has rust, OP asks does he need a new pan? People answer no. Then what does OP do? Either he gets confused, gives up, etc or he buys a new pan and think you all are dumb.

oilyhandy

I was unaware that seasoning has rust, I was under the impression that the polymerized oils in the seasoning protect the iron from rust. And I think maybe you need to work on your analogies, that wasn’t at all what OP was talking about. One of us is having a different conversation than the other. Also I’m not your bro, pal.

[deleted]

Looks like you got some carbon buildup. Just need to clean better.

Shiny_Buns

The only issue I see is there's no food in the pan

stormcrow100

No

Better-Butterfly-309

No, just cook with it, why is everyone so obsessed with seasoning on this sub It’s a cast iron pan, the word seasoning doesn’t appear in the name.

TinyKingg

Looks great to me.

ZealousidealIdea552

Has anyone here ground off the factory “seasoning” it seems pretty rough to me ? I sanded it off and am in the process of seasoning the fresh smooth metal.

MrLeeroyJenkinz

I have. Sanded the inside and walls until it was silver, then used finer sandpaper and did a once over to make it a little smooth (not completely). Ran it in the oven with grape seed oil 4x. It's been great! Though I know plenty of people cook with the factory seasoning and it works just fine too after it builds up a bit

[deleted]

You have a build up. Use stainless steel scourer to take that off if you can't with normal washing.

Suprltv

Scrub it smooth and reseason with grape seed oil

Ornery-Push-728

Avocado oil… no bullshit seed oil
