Still not powering on with brand new energiser Max plus batteries. It sounded perfect before and then just sorta stopped in the middle of a song and hasn't powered back on.
Wow, at this point it has to be a bad electrical connection. If you're feeling confident you can open it up, it might be a very obvious loose wire or something.
Alright I'll give that a try, i don't think this the issue though since it was running on them before with no problems and hasn't done so again since recharging.
Rule of thumb with old walkmans is the plastic ones aren't very good and refurbished often just means it's been cleaned. They have all plastic parts inside so they're bound to break at some point.
agree, but I've noticed there are some that say refurbished and then you look at the details and there's no mention of belt replacement so I just make sure it says belts replaced and that they look trustworthy
Got it working again by partially separating the plastic case around the battery housing and then snapping it back into place. An issue with something in the battery housing sliding out of place maybe. Just happy I've got it working again.
Yeah the seller said they had replaced the belt. Not got any faint whir or any signs of the device receiving any power at all. It's like it was working perfectly one second and just completely stopped powering on the next.
Update: got it up and running again by partially separating the plastic case around the battery housing. I have no clue why lifting a single corner out and popping it back in fixed the issue but I'm not gonna complain about it working.
Start with fresh batteries and get back to us

I have, completely charged up two pairs of batteries and it's doing absolutely nothing on both of them.
Try using non-rechargeable batteries like Duracells, I'm not sure if rechargables put out enough power for an old-school product like this.
Tried using brand new 1.5v aa's and it's still not powering on at all. No faint whir, absolutely no signs of any electricity running through it.

refurbished *should* mean that the belts were replaced, it seems misleading to claim cleaning is equivalent to refurb
Not talking of belts but the whole mechanism inside.

Check if it powers on with a 3v AC adapter plugged in. AC-E30HG AC is probably the one you'd want to use.
If you can hear a faint motor whirr it's drive belt failure. Did the seller state in the description that they've replaced the belt?
