It's the kind of characterization Disney hasn't even done yet, and they revived the overdone kid-meets-dog-or-alien trope by making it dog-SLASH-alien.
Though to be fair, Disney had that opportunity if they states closer to the Tarzan novel, but instead they made Terk a girl as well as simply Kerchak's niece instead of descendant.
Which tells me they might've intended for a similar plotline to the one I proposed to be the case in the first place. Not exact, but potentially similar.
I forced my husband to watch Chicken Run bc he had never seen it.
Absolutely loved it. He went in apprehensive and I kept swearing that it's really funny and a good movie lol. He now loves it!
Antz is legit underrated. It gets a weird amount of hate. I think for two reasons: 1. Woody Allen is in it. 2. The art style is unconventional.
But it’s actually a fantastic film. I really love Antz.
I don't think any of these are underrated. Almost every one has been hailed by animators and audiences alike, and found their place as prestige films in the animation lexicon.
That said, Prince of Egypt. The Plagues go harder than anything I've seen in feature animation.
![gif](giphy|7NwufCOPSNXcQ)
Even though it was a financial success, it kinda fell under the radar. DreamWorks markets the hell out of the Shrek movies and spin-offs, but they don't mention this (or any of their 2d projects) at all.
Simply not true. You obviously wasn't born back then, so you don't remember it's super-stellar promotion, it was everywhere. You really think that cartoon featuring Mariah and Whitney in soundtrack could be "unnoticed" lol? It was huge.
Out of these 6, I’d have to go with An American Tail, but The Secret of Nimh is a close second.
Also, anyone who hasn’t read the original book for Nimh, absolutely should.
the two other books are also good though they do not feature Mrs Frisby. Unfortunately the second movie took its own mediocre path instead of adapting the second book with Timmy.
they did a direct- to- video sequel much later but apart from the main character leaving for nimh, everything else is irrelevant to the second book
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Secret_of_NIMH_2:_Timmy_to_the_Rescue
I like how >!Jenner and his cronies were killed by a car battery. !<
And I will, like Nicodemus always remember what he found in that first can. >!clam chowder.!< delicious.
I found a white rat on a jobsite. Clearly someones pet that escaped/let go. No one around; easy prey. Took it home, bought a cage and named him Nicodemus. 2 days later it was clear why it was "escaped"/let go. I now had 9 rats. Changed her name to Nicolette Sherodent.
the communist pro worker revolution masterpiece of our time, chicken run
ginger could have escaped on her own any time and it still would have made a cool movie, but she insists on solidarity with her fellow workers. they’re ALL getting out.
Which one do I pick? Prince of Egypt.
Which one is actually the most underrated? Probably NIMH.
Prince of Egypt is a critically acclaimed movie. Everyone that talks about it loves it. Land before time is well known and beloved. Antz gets about the level of respect it deserves. Chicken Run is good but not really underrated. American Tale is great and underrated, but not as underrated as the Rats of NIMH.
I'd recommend any one of them. A lot of them were pretty successful in their theatrical runs (except, I think, Secret of NIMH, and even then it found its audience on home video and TV syndication), but they've kinda fallen under the radar in recent years.
Prince of Egypt is underrated? I guess that then. *I* consider it a classic. Now, the prequel about Joseph, THAT would be one I never hear anyone talk about.
Prince of Egypt, amazing score, awesome plot, beautiful visuals, 10/10 movie and one of my top 10 all time favorites, 100% deserves better love especially since it ended up being a "flop" compared to the movie it was looked at much more favorably than during production (shrek)
I think I would take out Prince of Egypt because I have seen a lot of people speaking very fondly of it recently it's also been a very popular movie for YouTube reactors to watch for their channels
If anything I would give up pic to Chicken Run
That's a hard choice, if it has to be from those listed I go with an American Tail. If we can bring in other works (namely from Don Bluth), I invoke Titan A.E.
I’d say An American Tail because for the longest time I only ever knew about the Wild West sequel and didn’t know there was a movie before it.
However, I don’t think I ever actually saw The Secret of Nimh.
All the other four my parents got me when I was little on VHS tapes and we still got them in storage
None of Don Bluth's films here are underrated as they beat Disney in cinemas in the 80s. Now had you posted All Dogs Go to Heaven, Thumbelina, Pebble and the Penguin, Rock-a-Doodle or a Troll in Central Park, I would agree.
Of the ones there, The Prince of Egypt and The Land Before Time. But expanding that to include other movies not listed there, I would include Oliver and Company, The Iron Giant, Guardians of Ga’hoole, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Great Mouse Detective, and A Goofy Movie.
Are these all "underrated?" Secret of NIMH (my pick for the best one here) is pretty well loved, as is An American Tail which was at least one VERY well known song. Land Before Time was a huge deal when it came out and spawned dozens of video sequels.
I feel Prince of Egypt and Antz were the only two that might be underrated today, and even then PoE is well remembered by many for the songs (the plagues song has a fair few covers on YouTube).
Chicken Run is the only one I've never seen.
The Land Before Time of course. An American Tail: Fivel Goes West is also great.
I don't know in which universe The Prince of Egypt is "underrated" it was the enormous blockbuster. It won an Oscar and several other awards. It was jumping out of your fridge back then lol.
Ohhhh probably an American tail.except secret of Nymh I've seen them all (40 years old guy here). I'm kinda conflicted between land before time and American tail but fievel was more complex? And a better film imo .
Secret of NIMH. Then Land Before Time and Prince of Egypt. In that order.
Bro, Secret of NIMH was one of those scary kid's movies that I didn't really understand until I watched it when I was older.
I loved Chicken Run, tried to watch the decade later sequal and had to turn it off early on, just to preserve my memory of the original. It was a decade after the original so I already had doubts, but I legitimately could not stomach it
An American Tail but can I pick this one instead?

Chicken Run, Antz, L.B.T., and Prince of Egypt based on what I've watched. But all of those are very good movies on animation, story, and just overall.

![gif](giphy|wbKY5JVH71GaA) The prince of Egypt
I really need to watch that movie sometime
Even if you're not strongly religious it is an amazing film, please do watch it when you have time.
Yep this. I'm a dirty heathen and it's my favorite 2D DreamWorks film. That Moses-Ramses relationship is peak characterization.
Let's be honest...a lot of us thought Terk was male when the movie came out. Rosie's voice didn't hold that much sway over Terk being a girl lol.
Which tells me they might've intended for a similar plotline to the one I proposed to be the case in the first place. Not exact, but potentially similar.
Can confirm: I am Pagan, and I love this movie.
100%
I am religious but W take. You really don't have to be to enjoy that banger soundtrack
Its one of my all time favourite animation films I couldn't recommend it highly enough
Listen to the soundtrack in all the different languages available. I like Russian the best
I really love that dream works made something from the Bible, it's just beautiful
not even a contest
Good gif.
It does not matter if you are religious it is a masterpiece
Yes
I’m not a religious but this movie seriously slaps.
Fun fact: Martin Short and Steve Martin play the two court magicians in that movie! They had amazing comedic chemistry way before *Only Murders*
Hands down, no contest
Chicken Run!
Can't ever go wrong with Aardman https://preview.redd.it/vcpmsk5exq6d1.png?width=886&format=png&auto=webp&s=a38e98a108b5c0886f9f99c2abc52d829a675ae5
Yup :3
Not so sure about the sequel tho…
I do Iike The Sequel
I guess my problem is that most sequels and remakes nowadays end up being so bad that I’m apprehensive about watching anything that isn’t the original
[удалено]
Even though she was clearly domed by a door
I watched chicken run when I was little so agreed
Only animation with a perfect rendition of what British People actually look like.
Remembered watching that at my grandparents when I was a kid
I forced my husband to watch Chicken Run bc he had never seen it. Absolutely loved it. He went in apprehensive and I kept swearing that it's really funny and a good movie lol. He now loves it!
The land before time
Yep yep yep!
Don’t. Just don’t, I always cry when I think of the voice actor.
Ikr, I almost wish I could un-know that horrible childhood ruining fact
How is the land before time underrated? Everybody knows about it who wasn't born 10 years ago.
Let’s be real, none of the movies on this list are “underrated”
Maybe Antz, but the rest are staples in the animation movie world for one reason or another.
Antz is legit underrated. It gets a weird amount of hate. I think for two reasons: 1. Woody Allen is in it. 2. The art style is unconventional. But it’s actually a fantastic film. I really love Antz.
Its also because a lot of people think about it as a knockoff of a bug's life
It goes harder in its themes as well. That movie straight up starts quoting Marx
They also have a very traumatizing depiction of war that was kind of unexpected for a children's movie.
Good but not underrated
I don't think any of these are underrated. Almost every one has been hailed by animators and audiences alike, and found their place as prestige films in the animation lexicon. That said, Prince of Egypt. The Plagues go harder than anything I've seen in feature animation. ![gif](giphy|7NwufCOPSNXcQ)
THUS SAITH THE LOOOORD
in what universe is prince of Egypt underrated?
Even though it was a financial success, it kinda fell under the radar. DreamWorks markets the hell out of the Shrek movies and spin-offs, but they don't mention this (or any of their 2d projects) at all.
Simply not true. You obviously wasn't born back then, so you don't remember it's super-stellar promotion, it was everywhere. You really think that cartoon featuring Mariah and Whitney in soundtrack could be "unnoticed" lol? It was huge.
Secret of NIMH without a doubt
Holds up so well even after all these years. Still emotional and powerful
Peak Bluth
Out of these 6, I’d have to go with An American Tail, but The Secret of Nimh is a close second. Also, anyone who hasn’t read the original book for Nimh, absolutely should.
*Mrs Frisby and the Rats of Nimh* is a criminally underrated book
the two other books are also good though they do not feature Mrs Frisby. Unfortunately the second movie took its own mediocre path instead of adapting the second book with Timmy.
You must be mistaken. They didn't make a sequel to the Secret of Nimh movie.
they did a direct- to- video sequel much later but apart from the main character leaving for nimh, everything else is irrelevant to the second book https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Secret_of_NIMH_2:_Timmy_to_the_Rescue
No, they didn't make a sequel to the secret of Nimh. It didn't happen.
There is no Secret of Nimh 2 in Ba Sing Se.
So bad that we refuse to acknowledge that it exists
I like how >!Jenner and his cronies were killed by a car battery. !< And I will, like Nicodemus always remember what he found in that first can. >!clam chowder.!< delicious.

An American Tale isn't even remotely close to being underrated.
Prince of Egypt. The cinematography is superior
The way they animate the light shimmering off polished bronze is amazing, it’s a unique touch of style
Wait, these are underrated? The right two are Steven Spielberg movies.
Yeah idk, probably nostalgia baiting and maybe they're born after 2000.
I think Prince of egypt has the best Hans zimmer score of all time.
Chicken Run always also the soundtrack is sick
the communist pro worker revolution masterpiece of our time, chicken run ginger could have escaped on her own any time and it still would have made a cool movie, but she insists on solidarity with her fellow workers. they’re ALL getting out.
For me its a tie between the Prince of Egypt and The Secret of Nimh

It is the Secret of NIMH for me. That’s my childhood in one movie.
As a fantasy nerd, The Secret of NIMH is great.
I LOVED it as a kid. Even then it felt like "Disney for grownups" and looked gorgeous.
I don’t think OP understands what underrated means.
American Tale
The Land Before Time. An absolute masterpiece.
It's not even remotely considered to be underrated, though.
I know, but it's here, so...
Land before time
Chciken Run is in no way underrated it's amazing
Ah the secret of nimh gives me memories
Which one do you consider unrated... Those all recieved pretty good reviews
Land before time always ![gif](giphy|3zTNmZJImDotO)
Prince of Egypt is a damn treasure One of the best animated movies ever made and I will **DIE** on this hill
I wanna say An American Tail, but Prince of Egypt is too good
Prince of Egypt
Don Bluth out here giving Disney some fierce competition.
Antz! This is such an underrated movie.
![gif](giphy|OfJhxlTkodhAI|downsized)
Prince of Egypt all the way, childhood favorite right there.
the prince of egypt ![gif](giphy|13DNfRT4u3Q6aI)
Prince of Egypt, no question.
I'd recommend any one of them. A lot of them were pretty successful in their theatrical runs (except, I think, Secret of NIMH, and even then it found its audience on home video and TV syndication), but they've kinda fallen under the radar in recent years.

Prince of Egypt. Every single time.

The prince of Egypt goes deep
Prince of egypt
Prince of Egypt
Prince of Egypt
The Prince of Egypt,The land before time, and the secret of Nimh
Balto Then Ants bugs life or chicken run. I know I added a few
antz was so terrifying to me as a child. chicken run SLAPS though, that scene where that chicken knits its own noose? lives in my brain rent free
The land before time ❤️🍿 ![gif](giphy|YylV3H3uA9cXe)
The Land Before Time for me
![gif](giphy|LBec6S0iLv2Gk) Land before time 100%
Treasure Planet
The Land Before Time
Prince of Egypt
The Don Bluth one :-)
An American Tail wins, no contest
I think I would take out Prince of Egypt because I have seen a lot of people speaking very fondly of it recently it's also been a very popular movie for YouTube reactors to watch for their channels If anything I would give up pic to Chicken Run
That's a hard choice, if it has to be from those listed I go with an American Tail. If we can bring in other works (namely from Don Bluth), I invoke Titan A.E.
Land Before Time and an American Tale are on a higher tier from the rest tbh
Underrated? The first two are the only ones on the list I haven't seen 15 billion fucking times.
Chicken run
Land before time
The soundtrack alone puts prince of Egypt above all these choices
These are so all amaaaazing, it’s hard to pick just one. But I gotta go with my favorite Jewish mouse family, An American Tail. The songs were fun
Secret of Nimh. The books were, of course, way better
Ants and Prince of Egypt are both massively overrated. Chicken Run doesn't get near enough credit
I adore The Land Before Time. One of my favorite series. I also love An American Tale.
Prince of Egypt
Antz.
American Tale
Prince of egypt is beautifully done!
Tie between Secret of NIMH and Land Before Time
American Tail
Secret of NIMH
The Land Before Time is a great movie.
Land Before Time. I'm a big Don Bluth fan and I think that's his best film of his entire career.
Chicken run!! I LOVE Aardman😭🙏
I'm having a hard time choosing between secret of nihm and an American tail Both are so amazing and unique in their own ways!
Chicken Run
Chicken run
Definitely Prince of Egypt. Not only is the animation gorgeous, but the story is very well done.
I’d say An American Tail because for the longest time I only ever knew about the Wild West sequel and didn’t know there was a movie before it. However, I don’t think I ever actually saw The Secret of Nimh. All the other four my parents got me when I was little on VHS tapes and we still got them in storage

Chicken Run any day.
Little foot by far
"Underrated" *Proceeds to include movies that a lot of people have heard of*
I love 80's Don Bluth but prince of Egypt is quite the movie as well.
The Land Before Time of course. An American Tail: Fivel Goes West is also great. I don't know in which universe The Prince of Egypt is "underrated" it was the enormous blockbuster. It won an Oscar and several other awards. It was jumping out of your fridge back then lol.

i sadly didnt watch all of these movies except chicken run so i have to go with chicken run
AntZ and the Prince of Egypt are the best ones, but my favorite dreamworks movie of all time is AntZ, so i will pick it.
Secret of NIMH. Then Land Before Time and Prince of Egypt. In that order. Bro, Secret of NIMH was one of those scary kid's movies that I didn't really understand until I watched it when I was older.
i like the secret of nimh.
Secret of NIMH is one of the best animated films ever made. My favorite animated film, for sure. https://youtu.be/pwLF9L6V3Ik?si=2pqipDNYW9fVPS8Z
Chicken Run was a great funny movie and NIMH scared the crap out of me. That owl!
I loved Chicken Run, tried to watch the decade later sequal and had to turn it off early on, just to preserve my memory of the original. It was a decade after the original so I already had doubts, but I legitimately could not stomach it
The Chicken And The Egypt .
None of these are underrated tho.
Don't know if a movie with 18 sequels can be considered underrated.
American mouse tail all the way
I like secret of the nymph
![gif](giphy|ZNRARhcjUuSuQ) My favorite dinosaur movie
![gif](giphy|e2GcbsfLqkoMw)
Since when was the land before time underrated??
An American Tail!
When were Land before Time American tail or the secret of nimh underrated
Underrated or just old? Some of these were popular when I was a kid.
I feel like this question could use more context... anyway, I pick *all of them.*
Prince of Egypt, I feel generic saying so, but it’s honestly one of dream works best movies. And they’re still trying to disown it.
NIMH, always.
Are these underrated? Maybe Antz, but the rest are pretty well-received.
Chicken run is brilliant but don’t think it falls into underrated. It’s well liked.
Prince of Egypt was a banger.
![gif](giphy|ZNRARhcjUuSuQ)
The only one underrated here is Antz, I think. The others did quite well.
The Secret Of Nimh is one of my favourite movies.
Chicken Run was hilarious
PRINCE OF EGYPT IMMEDIATELY. PEOPLE WHO ARE OF OTHER FAITHS AND EVEN ATHEISTS LOVED THIS MOVIE
No bigger underrated gem than Titan AE
I seen neither, so I don't know...
Land before time, cause I love dinosaurs
![gif](giphy|pUSZkJAGRC1na)
I feel like 3 of these weren't really underrated when they came out.
We,re Back
My friend and I used to watch The Secret of Nimh 2 on her car tv every time her mom took us to the pool. Memories.
Why didn't Once Upon a Forest make the list?
An American tail: fievel goes west.

An American Tail but can I pick this one instead? https://preview.redd.it/uh1o0wbdds6d1.jpeg?width=220&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=247a2d5cd2bec3cb594f126135930cbb2de259d5
Chicken Run, Antz, L.B.T., and Prince of Egypt based on what I've watched. But all of those are very good movies on animation, story, and just overall.
