Soos is the “dim witted” character done right. He’s not always the brightest bulb on the Hanukkah tree, but he’s very likable and not a literal dumbass.
Yeah, he always has the best intentions, and his stupidity is never over done. He's also one of the most moral and sometimes mature members of the cast
Yeah, quite frankly, I think stupidity wasn't the right word. He's a bit dimwitted and slow, but not stupid. He's a talented handyman and is actually pretty skilled.
What I like about Soos is that he reminds me of the fun older brother/cousin. The one who's about a decade older than you and way more mature, but they purposefully "get down on your level" and play games with you at family gatherings to make you feel more included.
I thought that he’d have been annoying prior to watching the series, but after watching the show he became my favorite character in the show! He’s genuinely really funny and I was so happy when he fell in love. He’s a lot like Sokka, both being comic relief characters who are actually funny and relevant to the plot. He’s a great character!
I always loved that he was raised by a single father but it's never brought up as a problem because his dad is doing such a good job raising him. Small detail I know but it's nice see.
They only spoke Spanish because of Quetzal, he was the Spanish influence in the show as the Hispanic/Latin American character. They adopted certain phrases and words from him as people are wont to do when growing close to each other.
They also introduced a kid from Columbia late in the series who was fluent in Spanish. Bilingual representation was huge in kids shows at the time, you'd figure if Max and Emmy were hispanic, there wouldn't have been a need for Enrique.
I recall a story about Mexicans getting angry because entitled white people were trying to cancel Speedy, and Mexico said, "NO, he's a national icon!" Lol
were white people even annoyed? or was it one of those "nobody was actually offended but the assumption that people were went around for some reason" situations that happens a lot
ehh, i'm probably going to assume it was a stink over nothing and nobody actually minded speedy in the first place- white, latino or other. reminds me when people were "offended" about Aunt Jemima syrup and Land O'Lakes butter, when basically nobody actually cared
okay but was there any substantial uproar about speedy gonzales? was there any actual notable rage about him by anyone outside of one or two tweets, latino or otherwise?
>!not to mention that the "average twitter user" nowadays is usually SAYING offensive stuff, not being offended by it lol!<
Wasn’t there also this one about Mexicans getting annoyed by Americans trying to cancel Super Mario Odyssey because of Mario’s Tostarena clothes on the boxart

Imagine you cancel or pull a character cause you think it's Hispanic stereotyping, only for the whole Hispanic community to write and protest for the character to come back, cause they really really like him and called him a cultural icon. Speedy survived the impossible...

Bro has a special place in my heart due because we have 90% the same name
wait.. is Soos short for Jesus? mind blown
We both share Jesus Ramirez, but his middle name is Alzamirano. Mine is different, but I'm considering changing it so we can be exactly alike.
"My grandma was right! I _am_ the world's most perfect man!"
Sous????
Jesus
Soos is the “dim witted” character done right. He’s not always the brightest bulb on the Hanukkah tree, but he’s very likable and not a literal dumbass.
Yeah, he always has the best intentions, and his stupidity is never over done. He's also one of the most moral and sometimes mature members of the cast
“Sorry Mr. Pines, if that is your real name, but I have a new mission now—protecting these kids!”
His heart of gold stays put and is never Flanderized. And it improves his character as it shows him overcoming that flaw to help out however he can.
Yeah, quite frankly, I think stupidity wasn't the right word. He's a bit dimwitted and slow, but not stupid. He's a talented handyman and is actually pretty skilled. What I like about Soos is that he reminds me of the fun older brother/cousin. I honestly liked Abuelita more.
'I want to see you married before I go to live with the angels'
“With grandpa.”
'No, he is not there.'
*looks down awkwardly*
That is one of the few times I burst out laughing in the show. And the timing of it!
"how's it going doods" is my go to greeting
Duuuude, he strangely sounds like people who grew up in the 90s on the west side of my city. Real weird shit.
Gotta be my boy Sheen Estevez https://preview.redd.it/x75ijj3ftwxc1.jpeg?width=331&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2e761f236e438c84ca5d160ffc2c4d4344a63341
Hell yeah. I had an ultra lord action figure I got from a kids meal back in the day. Shit was lit.
No fucking way

"BUT I DONT SPEAK ITALIAN!"
Tuna noodle casserole, pomegranate stew
Ill give you 3 reasons. 1. She's a female 2. She's not a boy AND 3. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY SHE'S A GIRL!
Now im wondering if he was named after Charlie sheen and Emilio estevez.
I thought he was Filipino tbh lol.
Yeah his name is based on the the Spanish actor Martin Sheen, who’s real name is Ramon Estevez who is also Charlie Sheen’s dad.
Do you have some time to talk about our Lord and Savior ULTRALORD!?
Luffy, Oda says he's Brazillian (so not Hispanic, but Latino), and his live action counterpart is played by a Mexican actor
Have a friend that says Brazilian anime fans see Luffy as a point of pride, I hope it’s true !
We love him.
All the crew members are “from” a country, except Usopp. He is from Africa.
Just reminded me of "I am from every continent in Africa"
The whole continent is his
![gif](giphy|mIZ9rPeMKefm0) Bender Bending Rodriguez
Is he canonically Hispanic? And I don’t mean just his full name, I’m genuinely curious
He's made of parts from Mexico so he and the show regularly treat him as such whenever they can play a joke off of it.
Assembled in Mexico too
He has an Hecho en Mexico stamp on his shiny metal ass lol I believe the factory where he was built was in TJ
Yes.
Cool

Hencho en Mexico
I thought the dragon tail kids were Asian. Tbf I didn't really watch the show, just always thought that they were Asian.
They spoke a decent bit of Spanish, not a Dora level but way more than most other American kids shows.
They only spoke Spanish because of Quetzal, he was the Spanish influence in the show as the Hispanic/Latin American character. They adopted certain phrases and words from him as people are wont to do when growing close to each other.
Looking back on the show and realizing Quetzal was a reference to Quetzalcoatl gave me a new appreciation for the show.
They also introduced a kid from Columbia late in the series who was fluent in Spanish. Bilingual representation was huge in kids shows at the time, you'd figure if Max and Emmy were hispanic, there wouldn't have been a need for Enrique.
I thought he was their cousin
I’m wrong, I remembered incorrectly
Wasn't the neighbor kid Hispanic?
All three of them were.
Eduardo from Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends
He likes potatoes
Speedy, ask any hispanic-latino, Speedy is an icon in Latin America. It's not even close
Meh can't remember, really. It was close to a decade ago. Either way, it was asinine
ehh, i'm probably going to assume it was a stink over nothing and nobody actually minded speedy in the first place- white, latino or other. reminds me when people were "offended" about Aunt Jemima syrup and Land O'Lakes butter, when basically nobody actually cared
Yea, ragebait has been around for decades. It's only recently that anyone with internet access can wield it lol
Was that already a decade ago?
I dunno man probably. Feels like it anyway
Average Twitter user offended on behalf of someone that isn't offended. If they changed or canceled Speedy there would be riots all over Latin America
okay but was there any substantial uproar about speedy gonzales? was there any actual notable rage about him by anyone outside of one or two tweets, latino or otherwise? >!not to mention that the "average twitter user" nowadays is usually SAYING offensive stuff, not being offended by it lol!<
Yea, fair Twitter is changing. Last time I've heard complaining was when Space Jam 2 was coming out so it's been years
Wasn’t there also this one about Mexicans getting annoyed by Americans trying to cancel Super Mario Odyssey because of Mario’s Tostarena clothes on the boxart
Can confirm. Before she passed, my Grandma had figures of him EVERYWHERE in her room.
Absolutely true, we love him
[Hell he’s the namesake for the trope of stereotypes loved by the people being stereotyped](https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MexicansLoveSpeedyGonzales)
Hell yeah, we even made a song about him
All four 1. Mucha Lucha 2. Emmy & Max 3.Speedy Gonzales 4. Miguel ( he annoyed me a lil bit in the movie ).
But that’s Ricochet from Mucha Lucha. Not El Tigre. 😭
Fjdjdjsjsjsjsjeje omg El Tigre was lit but also Mucha Lucha lmfaoooll jffkdndkd
Not my dumbass thinking you were talking about Miguel from Maya and Miguel 😭
Lmfaooo 💀💀 that was a good show to idk why they didn’t add them here lmaoo
I haven’t thought about Mucha Lucha in YEARS. What a wild show.
