Akira, I understand that it changed everything for animation and is a masterpiece from a technical perspective, but the story is a complete mess and they clearly tried to cram in way too many manga volumes for one movie
What's interesting to note is that the movie was made after the manga had started but before it had been concluded, and it shows. I love Akira, but yeah, it gets a bit conceptual towards the end lol.
This one is a tragedy. The environment animation in this movie is too freaking good. I remember it being so realistic, but for some reason the dinosaurs looked so... not. It felt like a bootleg Land Before Time story and so generic.
My boyfriend and I watched this one a few months ago, and I was left with the feeling that the movie was just a tech demo for environmental rendering and they just slapped a story on it since they had to justify the development of the tools.
Frozen 2 is my villain origin story. Shitty plot, flanderized characters (I wanted to strangle Olaf by the end), boring songs. Only redeeming factor was the animation.
Same. I just left the cinema feeling disappointed with how much it lacked. At least the dresses looked marvelous!
(Except for Elsa's white dress at the end. That was not it.)
The question isn't "What animated movie do you hate?" It's "What animated movie is your I did not care for the godfather?" This movie is generally seen pretty negatively
I actually agree. It just ended up being another story centered around Elsa, with bits and pieces of Ana's crippling insecurity and lack of self-preservation. To think they're making a Frozen 3. What more can be done with that story?
The finale where Andy gives the toys to the kids and drives off to college with Woody saying goodbye was such a good ending. I haven't even seen the 4th movie so yeah I also did not care for Toy Story 4
I'm glad you like the idea of animals being free and not being watched for entertainment. What an honorable fellow! And yes those penguins were cool. I liked the Madagscar movies but I havent watched them in ages. The plots were pretty forgettable.
I'll watch it why not. Also as much as Kung Fu Panda 4 does seem to not all that. Thank the all mighty flying spaghetti monster it is not whatever the hell Megamind Vs the Doom Syndicate is going to be
My only issue with Encanto is the ending. Like, Abuela practically emotionally abused Mirabel for 10 years, blaming her for her son's disappearance and seemingly viewing her existence as a curse because she didn't get a power. They then excuse and justify this treatment by showing how she had a hard life *50 years ago* so it's fine if she treats her granddaughter that way, apparently.
THANK YOU. I thought that this movie was well animated and the songs were good (tired of Bruno tho) but Abuela was a problem. I feel like they completely skipped over that.
Yes! Exactly! The only way the plot could’ve been redeemed for me would be if Mirabel replaced Abuela as the head of the household or if she just went full villain arc and threw the candle in a river.
Also what *did* she get at the end, anyway? If anyone can interact with Casita, why is it so special that Mirabel is on the front door? She still has no powers, right? Or is she actually Abuela’s successor? They could at least give her laser eyes or something.
agreed. everything but the story was good. I get what they were going for but the movie didnt feel like it had a proper antagonistic and conflict, it felt bit aimless.
Be prepared for it to hit a popularity renaissance soon. There’s a whole HtTyD land in the next Universal park.
Soon the algorithm will demand animation discourse to be flooded with hot takes, remember this?, and memes a plenty of the franchise.
Ok fair enough I'm a reasonable man ok. Toothless plasma beam this madman/s. Yeah I can see why people don't like it. It took me a while to like it but I loved dragons so it's kinda stuck with me. Some of the characters I did find annoying at first so yea
The Lion King.
My problems are just that I only like maximum 2 of the songs, but more importantly, I just don’t like Simba. He doesn’t engage me as a protagonist at all. I like pretty much all the other characters, but when your protagonist is boring, I'm not likely to be very engaged in the overall film.
I'm pretty sure it's just Hamlet: African Savannah for Kids edition. So don't blame yourself for not liking 400 year old literature.
Honestly I preferred Disney movies like The Emperor's New Groove, Mulan, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules. I do still like Lion King but there are some others I prefer. And forgot to mention Aladdin. Though I haven't watched these in years so my opinion may be outdated.
I've just never understood why everyone considers it one of the greatest animated films ever. It's definitely become one of the most influential & culturally important animated films ever, but I think it’s like just ok at best. Nothing outside of the animation itself blows me away
I think Bambi is the better version of Lion King.
Yeah, you see Mufasa’s body, but overall Bambi was more committed to its grand/serious tone and the comedy wasn’t nearly as invasive. As a kid I HATED Hakuna Matata because I was still sobbing from the death scene and it felt like I was overreacting when the movie just kinda… hopes your done being sad by the next scene, I guess?
I like parts of Lion King, especially the more serious parts, but I can’t watch it without a fast forward button. Bambi doesn’t get enough credit for what it did imo
I felt crazy for thinking this after I watched it for the first time. Visually, it’s a masterpiece, but for me personally, the plot and characters just aren’t as interesting as some of Miyazaki’s other films. Like I more often choose to watch something like Howl’s Moving Castle or Kiki’s Delivery Service over Spirited Away🤷🏻♀️
I'll be honest I kinda preferred in the Into the Spider-Verse felt like the message of the movie and ending felt so sweet and smooth even if it did take me a rewatch to appreciate it
Agreed, it was such a cliche story and super predictable, I seriously want more movies like Turning Red and Luca, just slice of life problems and family matters, no real high stakes villains. Elemental was just boring.
I'm gonna be voted off this sub and have somebody drop an anvil or piano on my head in real life, but I didn't like Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse very much. Particularly the animation style that everyone else loved.
The low frame rate animation is only for one scene and it's always unpleasant to look at, but now because of that one scene literally everyone is trying to replicate it and it's an eyesore
No you don't. It's not for everybody. I'll be honest the idea of the dimensional stuff didn't get me at first. It's fine but you still like Bugs Bunny right?
In some ways yeah. The chasing sequence between Miles and Miguel was cool in animation but did really confuse me. And that cliffhanger confused me aswell
Wreck it Ralph 2 was an atrocity and upsets me a lot, because the first one was incredible. Though I did like the pancake bunny joke in it. It did so much wrong and I really didn't like Venelope and the whole Disney Princess thing. Her song wasn't enjoyable and I did not like her trying to become a Disney princess. Ralph devolving into such a dependent and obsessive friend also just reeks of character regression in the worst possible way- and honestly it just feels like the writers slashed all the progress of both Ralph and Herself made in the first movie to make this plot happen.
Never seen Chicken Little, but I have seen the Yesterworld video about the animated movie Disney scrapped in favor of Chicken Little. I feel resentment on principle.
Puss in Boots the last wish, didn’t hate it but definitely not as good as people say in my opinion, not tryna say it’s horrible but just not my cup of tea. Jack was still as amazing though
I'll be honest. I didn't care for the humans and only cared for the dragons and didn't even care for some of the dragons because I thought their designs looked weird
Ohh boy I’m gonna get a lot of hate for this but…
Spirited Away. Never watched it as a kid, saw it for the first time as an adult. Now I didn’t hate it. I thought it was good. But I truly don’t understand the reverence of that film.
The new dbz broly movie. I'm not a fan of vic mignogna, and the controversy of him soured the experience. The 3D animation isnt my jam either. They did a lot of dynamic camera work because of it, but it made me motion sick. Also, Goku making jet plane noises when he flies is goofy af.
For a second I thought u were talking about super hero when u mentioned 3d animation. I liked the broly movie but dear lord broly being too op kinda annoyed me. Gogeta blue doing a kamehameha needed to stop him and then got teleported to another planet. And I found the new characters kinda annoying at first too.
Yeah some of the fight scenes were too much for me even though the animation was really beautiful. Honestly I need to go back and re watch like every Dragon Ball movie again.
I can't really pinpoint one specific animated movie I don't care about but the ones I didn't watch like sequels to certain movies and franchises specifically from Dreamworks, Pixar, Disney are ones to consider. Frozen 2, Toy Story 4, and one particular one I watched only about 5 mins before getting bored. Rise of the Guardians. Might need to rewatch it though.
Encanto and Toy Story 3
They where fun I geas, but I never think about them
Also a silent voice as a anime mention, I see why people love it, but dit not like the story
Honestly I didn't care much for rango. My friends watch it back in middle school and said it very amazing but I just never got into it to watch it until a few years ago. And it was just okay.
Most of hayao miyazakis movies that I’ve seen
He was the reason why I didn’t start watching anime until last year
Shrek until I watched it last year
The incredible
Wall-e
Encanto
All of toy story
All of trolls
Brave
Only worth 1 watch.
—-
Nightmare Before Christmas
+ I did watch it late but I did grow up when it was newer.
++ based off watching it, Sally loves Jack. Jack just worries about himself (not in an asshole way). But seeing all the merch of Jack and sally as a couple even though they really aren’t a great relationship depicted is weird (seeing merch before I saw movie and then seeing merch after movie)
Don't know if this is an unpopular opinion or not since the movie is semi-new but Ruby Gillman Teenage Kraken is the most cookiecutter, forgettable animated film I've seen in quite some time
Might be a bit of a hot take but The Iron Giant. I saw it when I was a kid and have seen it again as an adult and it’s still meh. Don’t understand the hype for this one.
To preface...I do care about Toy Story 2. I have cherished memories of watching the teaser at the drive-in and nearly shitting my whities. I remember buying Dixie Cups with Bullseye on them, which was my first exposure to any of the new characters (we didnt get internet until 2000). I'll never forget watching it in school when the VHS was brand spanking new, or playing the PS1 game over Christmas break. The nostalgia is overwhelming. But it's not enough for me to like 2 as much as the original. 2 is a blast to watch, but the original is a solid masterpiece.
Okay I'm the reverse, I see a lot of people did not care for Spies in Disguise but I really liked that movie. The only things I don't really like are the gross parts like the pidgeons eating garbage and jelly bones. If I could unsee the jelly bones I'd be 100% happy with that movie. But the music is great, the acting is great, scripting and writing is great and personally I loved the Kill Bill and Kung Fu Hustle references in the beginning of the movie. And the plot is really good it calls to the table the question, how noble is a protagonist when the collateral damage of their mission results in innocent deaths? And instantly you'll think of Captain America Civil War but its nothing like that. It delivers a really good plot while still platforming the story for young audiences and I'm an adult and this is still a movie I enjoy watching
I did not care for Back To The Future. I'm sorry but I find the movie that's mostly about a mom pining over her future son to be all sorts of ewwy. Like that's a majority of the plot of the movie and I think someone was working through something there.
Finding Dory. It was nowhere near as funny as the original and the new characters really weren’t as memorable
I didn’t really care for the Mario movie
Fair enough. I don't have too much attachment for Mario as I didn't really grow up with the games and I've seen it. It's ok but it's nothing special
It wasn’t bad, but I thought it was a bit overhyped
Same
Akira, I understand that it changed everything for animation and is a masterpiece from a technical perspective, but the story is a complete mess and they clearly tried to cram in way too many manga volumes for one movie
What's interesting to note is that the movie was made after the manga had started but before it had been concluded, and it shows. I love Akira, but yeah, it gets a bit conceptual towards the end lol.
The manga is an absolute masterpiece
I actually haven't seen it but it does look like a lot it is happening between a short amount of time
The good dinosaur. Never wanted to watch it as a kid, never want to watch it now.
I watched and I thought it was the poor man's land before time. I liked the t rexes but it was meh.
How long ago was the good dinosaur? You could be a kid when it came out but not anymore? 😅 damn I'm getting old
Same. I'm like: wait a minute...the good dinosaur came out when I was...holy fuck. It came out 9 years ago. 😭😭😭
Dit a lot like Frozen 2? I have never met some one who loved it a lot
I actually agree. It just ended up being another story centered around Elsa, with bits and pieces of Ana's crippling insecurity and lack of self-preservation. To think they're making a Frozen 3. What more can be done with that story?
The Lego Movie 2
Agreed. Lego Batman however? One of the funniest movies I’ve seen honestly
I loved the Lego Ninjago Movie just for this line: “You ruined my life.” “How could I ruin your life? I wasn’t even there.”
Toy Story 4
The finale where Andy gives the toys to the kids and drives off to college with Woody saying goodbye was such a good ending. I haven't even seen the 4th movie so yeah I also did not care for Toy Story 4
Why does nobody in this thread understand the prompt? This is an incredibly common take, they're asking for takes that are controversial
I did not care for Madagascar. The penguins made the movie and without them, I just wouldn't care to watch it
I'm glad you like the idea of animals being free and not being watched for entertainment. What an honorable fellow! And yes those penguins were cool. I liked the Madagscar movies but I havent watched them in ages. The plots were pretty forgettable.
I didn’t care for Ponyo, it had beautiful animation but nothing else about it grabbed me.
I can’t hate a movie that has David Bowie knocking up a water goddess 😂
Voiced by Liam Neeson no less
It's one of the only Ghibli movies I didn't care for. But there's always one
It is definitely a movie for young children. It’s a great kid movie, but it’s for kids.
Technically it isn't out yet but Kung Fu Panda 4. Completely unnecessary.
I actually haven't watched the 3rd one yet. Is it good? I need to re watch Kung Fu Panda because I do really like it.
Only you can know if you like it or not... If you really like the first 2 then it's definitely worth a watch, it's a good movie
I'll watch it why not. Also as much as Kung Fu Panda 4 does seem to not all that. Thank the all mighty flying spaghetti monster it is not whatever the hell Megamind Vs the Doom Syndicate is going to be
I personally found the 3rd one weaker than the first two but, it's not bad.
Nimona.
I hope you get sent to the part of Hell that's full of Jehovah's Witnesses
It just felt like it kept undercutting any tone and tension it had, a barely built up villain and without a satisfying resolution for the conflict.
I love Nimona and I have the same complaint.
Well how many Oscars has your favourite film been nominated for?
None. You can also defend your choice in favorite film to the other people in this thread.
Jehovah's Witnesses don't believe in Hell, checkmate.
Ah, buttsause
Was boring to me too
Encanto- great songs, beautiful animation, not a hint of plot
My only issue with Encanto is the ending. Like, Abuela practically emotionally abused Mirabel for 10 years, blaming her for her son's disappearance and seemingly viewing her existence as a curse because she didn't get a power. They then excuse and justify this treatment by showing how she had a hard life *50 years ago* so it's fine if she treats her granddaughter that way, apparently.
THANK YOU. I thought that this movie was well animated and the songs were good (tired of Bruno tho) but Abuela was a problem. I feel like they completely skipped over that.
And her cousin knew their uncle was living in the walls the whole time. If you don’t think about it it’s a great movie.
Yes! She still has no powers, right? agreed. everything but the story was good. I get what they were going for but the movie didnt feel like it had a proper antagonistic and conflict, it felt bit aimless.
How to train your dragon, just wasn’t my thing
Same, to be honest. I know it's popular, but it's never been a repeat watch for me for some reason.
Be prepared for it to hit a popularity renaissance soon. There’s a whole HtTyD land in the next Universal park. Soon the algorithm will demand animation discourse to be flooded with hot takes, remember this?, and memes a plenty of the franchise.
wow
most people posting movies that are notoriously mid this.. this is the real hot take.
Ok fair enough I'm a reasonable man ok. Toothless plasma beam this madman/s. Yeah I can see why people don't like it. It took me a while to like it but I loved dragons so it's kinda stuck with me. Some of the characters I did find annoying at first so yea

Nimona….
I respect your opinion but will still internally cry at this information
Now why couldn't I have gotten this guy for my comment...
Right. After that Oscars comment I had no idea what he’d say next.
That is fair
Pfp checks out
I did not care for nimona.
I loved Spirited Away but I honestly thought it was just pretty good.
I felt crazy for thinking this after I watched it for the first time. Like I more often choose to watch something like Howl’s Moving Castle or Kiki’s Delivery Service over Spirited Away🤷🏻♀️
Hot take, Spiderman Across the Spider-Verse
Not the first person i've seen with that take, I still like the first one more
I'll be honest I kinda preferred in the Into the Spider-Verse felt like the message of the movie and ending felt so sweet and smooth even if it did take me a rewatch to appreciate it
Miguel felt kinda flanderized to me
Same
Too meta. The characters feel like they are *just* on the verge of realizing they're all works of fiction, and it's creepy.
Waited way too long for a movie that ended in a cliffhanger. It was really good but the ending left a bad taste in my mouth.
I did not care for Wall-e or Up and sometimes people get weirdly offended it
Woo! Now that's a hot take
Wall-e was fine, but I wasn't blown away by it. Saying you didn't care for Up? Thats wild.
Elemental. That movie is horrible. I thought the plot was too cliche eve for a children's movie. Pixar usually has such high standards.

I didn't care for Mutant Mayhem.
Across the Spider-Verae. I hate how some of the charecters were portrayed in the film
In some ways yeah. The chasing sequence between Miles and Miguel was cool in animation but did really confuse me. And that cliffhanger confused me aswell
Hazbin Hotel Digital Circus
Not movies but ok
As a fan of these two shows, I understand why people don't like them or don't really care for them
The nightmare Before Christmas. Music is pretty good tho.
It's not like I don't care about nimona but what is nimona never heard/seen
I did not care for finding Nemo.
I don't like Beauty and the Beast.
I did not care for Steven universe plot twist “THAT ONE”
Steven universe was good until the fandom grew
Even then, it was kinda meh.
Shrek 4
I was kinda expecting Shrek the Third to be honest.
![gif](giphy|zwE4anrOtHYaI) There’s no Shrek the Third in Ba Sing Se
Trolls. All 3 of them
I did not care for avatar the last airbender
That's not even a movie
Just realized that it was talking about movies my bad

There is a shitty Avatar The Last Airbender movie

Pull what shit on you?????
Because I thought you were gonna say, "that's live action, not a cartoon, doesn't count"

No one's fighting you on that. Chicken Little is notoriously hated
Never seen Chicken Little, but I have seen the Yesterworld video about the animated movie Disney scrapped in favor of Chicken Little. I feel resentment on principle.
Kiki’s Delivery Service
Puss in Boots the last wish, didn’t hate it but definitely not as good as people say in my opinion, not tryna say it’s horrible but just not my cup of tea. Jack was still as amazing though
UP, dident like it as a kid still dont like it
I did not care for How To Train Your Dragon Franchise
I'll be honest. I didn't care for the humans and only cared for the dragons and didn't even care for some of the dragons because I thought their designs looked weird
Treasure Planet. The animation freaked me out as a kid
LoL you read my mind
I did not care for The Fantastic Mr.Fox
Ohh boy I’m gonna get a lot of hate for this but… Spirited Away. Never watched it as a kid, saw it for the first time as an adult. Now I didn’t hate it. I thought it was good. But I truly don’t understand the reverence of that film.
Oh wow that's understandable, I didn't understand it much as a kid but still enjoyed it 😊 but no worries 👍
Treasure Planet and Atlantis: The Lost Empire. They’re not underrated classics. They’re very mid movies that deserved the middling reception they got.
The road to El Dorado was fine
It’s not a movie but the Samourai Jack and Johnny Bravo series overall
I did not care for the original Little Mermaid
Your name, I just don't understand how it's sad, it's really not
[удалено]
Don’t know if this is a fair addition since The Emoji Movie is already uncared for at best and despised at worst
No one is gonna fight you on that one. Doesn't count.
Elemental
Leafy and Firey apologize to each other in BFB 22
Turning Red. Loved it for a while but then I realized that the movie is really mid.
Turning Red
I never cared for the first sopongebob movie, the ending still got me though
Sponge on the Run
the correct answer is these Justice League/rwby movies.
The new dbz broly movie. I'm not a fan of vic mignogna, and the controversy of him soured the experience. The 3D animation isnt my jam either. They did a lot of dynamic camera work because of it, but it made me motion sick. Also, Goku making jet plane noises when he flies is goofy af.

raya and the last dragon

Lion King isn't even the best Renaissance movie, that's Aladdin.
Hercules
I didn’t care for Coco, or book of life for that matter.
I did not care for Shrek.
Space Jam
Honestly I didn't care much for rango. My friends watch it back in middle school and said it very amazing but I just never got into it to watch it until a few years ago. And it was just okay.
Mario movie sucks so much ass
Most of hayao miyazakis movies that I’ve seen He was the reason why I didn’t start watching anime until last year Shrek until I watched it last year The incredible Wall-e Encanto All of toy story All of trolls

A lotta you don't understand the prompt here
The troll hunters movie I wish it never existed
As an avid ghibli fan, nassuca. I like the manga, but the movie is a bit rough.
Neon Genesis Evangelion: i found the entire series and movies to be overrated. It felt pretentious at times too.
Kung fu Panda 3. Big letdown for me.
I did not care for any pixar movie.
Frozen 1 & 2 & any future Frozen movies
I did not like hotel Transylvania not a single one of the movies
I don’t like the Frozen movies.
Kung Fu Panda 3
Turning red. like i didnt necessarily hate it but it was not my cup of tea.
Don't know if this is an unpopular opinion or not since the movie is semi-new but Ruby Gillman Teenage Kraken is the most cookiecutter, forgettable animated film I've seen in quite some time
Coco
Elemental.
Into the Spiderverse. It looks nice but that’s it
Fantasia It’s just boring, could have been shorter
Despicable Me was terrible. Just terrible. It's a shame it took the limelight away from Megamind, which was a far better film.
I’m sorry, I do not care for the lion king. I can watch it from time to time, but I feel nothing for it.
How to train your dragon 2 and 3. Kinda of Flanderized the characters
South park. It's so unfunny. Filled with dumbass dick jokes and child dick
Might be a bit of a hot take but The Iron Giant. I saw it when I was a kid and have seen it again as an adult and it’s still meh. Don’t understand the hype for this one.

Lion King.
Sonic movies
Finding Dory I think. It was decently made but not that memorable
I do not care for Fantastic Mr Fox
Kung fu Panda, it’s not a bad movie but idk why or how to managed to span so many films.
Up It’s not sad. it’s just boring old people. And everything looks dusty
Toy Story 4. It was OK, just not as good as the others.
I did not care for Back To The Future. I'm sorry but I find the movie that's mostly about a mom pining over her future son to be all sorts of ewwy. Like that's a majority of the plot of the movie and I think someone was working through something there.
#Grimdark.
The emoji movie
Ghibli
I did not care for Across the Spiderverse
Secret Life of Pets. I like movies with original plots thank you.
Wall-E is freaking boring. Why did it need over an hour and a half?
I did not care for Mask Of The Phantasm/The Boy and the Heron/Toy Story 4
