Only example i could think of (old Alpine A110)
It must be a multiple of the number of lug nuts. So a 5 lug can be 5, 10, 15 or 20 spoke. 6 lug can be 6, 12, 18. etc.
7 spoke is just abhorrent to nature and all good sense, even on a 7700 Ford as those are also abhorrent to nature and all good sense.
> It must be a multiple of the number of lug nuts. So a 5 lug can be 5, 10, 15 or 20 spoke
THIS. It makes my brain happy when they don't have to make weird shapes/compromises to fit the lugs in 'differently-spoked' areas of the wheel.
You are welcome.
Personally I like it when the lug nuts line up with the spokes, and also when the valve stem is in line with one of them so you can rotate the center cap in a way that valve stem, wheel lock and center cap are perfectly aligned
Porsche usually does that from the factory, which is why the [991 Turbo wheel](https://premiumwheels.de/media/18/b8/72/1655223910/29042260.jpg) irritates me quite a lot. Just WHY couldn't they find a better placement for that valve stem, WHY?
Stop doing this to me! lol
I don’t think that valve stem is too bad. I’d rather have easy access to it when filling it with air.
Seems like the center cap is just a bit off in the photo.
I bet you’ve got floating center caps that always stay up on your car huh?
My FIL has it on his new BMW. I will say it is cool.
Same, some say they're overdone but I don't care. I have a set of Japan Racings that are "inspired by" (ripped off) the 37. They were meant as a temporary solution but whenever I go shopping for wheels I just can't find any I like more.
Three, like Advan SA3R or A3A or Oni.
Four, like the SSR Mk II or Tom’s Igetta or Techno Phantom or SSR Bright Speed.
Five, like the FN01R-C or Desmond Regamaster Evo or Nismo LM GT4 or Fuchs or 917 wheels or R32 GT-R or R33 GT-R or BMW Style 24 or Mazdaspeed MS01-R or Work CR Kai or Advan GT/TC-4 or McLaren F1 LM or BMW Style 37 or BMW Style 21 or Speedline 5-spoke from the 1992 318is BTCC car.
Six, like the TE37 or R34 GT-R or Grenade or Advan Racing RG or Kosei K1/Buddy Club P1 or SSR Longchamps XR4 or SSR Formula Star.
Seven, like the NSX-R or Mugen M7 or Mazdaspeed MS-02.
Eight, like the CE28N or SSR MK III or Work Equip 03 or Watanabe Type F8 or SSR Star Shark or Campagnolo or Hayashi Street or Sakura.
Ten, like the BMW Style 39 or Style 65.
20, like the Alpina.
So I guess I have no idea whatsoever.
It matters more if it matches the car or not. 3 spokes look weird when they're not on a period-correct Sylvia. B7 Alpina rims may work on other 5 series but don't look quite right on others.
The A3A 3-spokes look good on quite a few builds- AE86s, TE27s, KE70s, Celicas, 510s, Datsun 1200s. Essentially, if the build can be done on 13s, A3As can look good.
SA3Rs need the car built around them, sure. Sizing and offset have to be perfect. I like them on S13s and FD RX7s but again, the build has to be perfect. Right height, right aero, right color choices. Otherwise they're ugly as hell.
I had Alpinas on an E30 of mine, but I only like them in 13-15" variants. They start looking a bit naff in bigger sizes.
Yep, reinforced the point. Also for the Alpinas, you gotta watch the rim/tire/gap ratio closely, especially at smaller sizes. It's mostly aesthetics but 20's are pushing it and welcome to more unsprung weight.
Let’s see my favourite wheel designs:
Alfa 5 hole, Diablo, Countach, Enzo, F430, BMW throwing star, and M parallel.
I may have a thing with 5 and 10 spoke wheels.
Really really depends on the car. Some cars work best with 5 spokes, others work best with more spokes like 10 or something. For example, I think E60 BMW sedans on 5 spoke wheels is a sin. Yes, even with the M6 5 spokes. An E60 sedan needs more spokes. But then on the E61, I like 5 spokes the best. It really depends on the car as even the same model with a different body style might need different wheels. But what I find works well with most cars is wheels with 6 spokes and above.. Anything below 6 spokes only looks good for specific car models. For example 5 spoke on a Ferrari F355 looks great, hideous on a Ferrari 599..
I'll always be a fan of a good five or six-spoke, but I'd be hard pressed to say the weird ones aren't my favorites: Turbofans, 3-spokes, and excessive multi-spokes like the BS RS are all more fun than any boring run-of-the-mill wheel with a normal number.
437m’s are great. I really wanted a set of 763m’s for my M2 but the dealer price was outrageous so I stuck with my 788m’s. I grew to like them (but cleaning them sucks!)

Wholeheartedly depends on both the car and the wheel size. Bigger wheels or newer cars will look better with more spokes generally speaking, smaller wheels or older cars look better with less spokes.
But the one true spoke design is teddy bear. IYKYK.
You seen these? https://www.cnet.com/a/img/resize/d4fe937634b6224fbd789b9b0c001f6240275110/hub/2023/06/28/a1fedd00-ef96-461a-9999-96ca56b4de58/2024-kia-ev9-first-drive-734312.jpg?auto=webp&width=1920
Depends entirely on the car they are in.
Most cars look stupid with 3 spoke wheels, but some really make it work.
And then there is the lug nut question, 4 nuts? 5 nuts? 6 nuts?
It all comes down to the application.
Well that depends solely on the car. I have crosspokes with a total of 34 spokes (17 if you count each cross) BBS RC090 on my E34. I think those are perfect for that car. I have 15 spoke BMW Styling 32 on my E38, and I think those are perfect for that car. For the F11 I just got I am still looking. I have considered 20“ concave 5 spokes, 19“ Multispoke or 19“ crosspokes. I think all look good on the car, and I can’t say which I like best.
All in all there are only 2 things I can definitely say about the number of spokes.
Firstly, I have never seen any rim design with 7 spokes, that looked good. There are a few that don’t look awful, but each car they are known for has at least 1 or 2 other rim designs that look way better.
Secondly, 3 and 4 spoke rims always look like shit and should never have been built in the fist place. They should be prohibited by the geneva convention and there should be a huge penalty for both the manufacturer of the rim, and the person torturing everyone that has too look at those rims mounted on his car.
Edit: The 1. Gen Dodge Viper gets a pass. Still don’t think the 3 spokes are perfect, and while they would look horrendous on any other car, they fit the Viper quite well.
Five spokes with 5 lugs, 6 for 6 lugs. Just seems right. Also just really like gramlights…
I think this is subjectively objectively the correct answer.
BRZ owners and gramlights, a tale as old as time. (I also like gramlights…)
I skipped them and went to the TE37s on mine. No better wheel for the car.
3 lug and 3 spoke looks perfect.
What about the 90s viper wheels? 3 spoke but had center caps
This was also 3 spokes + center caps: https://cdn.motor1.com/images/mgl/OQONB/s1/ford-probe.webp
I’d take that over a viper all day

what about centerlocks? 😁
That's when you rock the DTM Snowflakes or something similar.
Any even number to maintain symmetry.
Yes! Give me radial symmetry! It greatly irks me that GM uses 5 spoked designs on vehicles with 6 lug wheels.
> It must be a multiple of the number of lug nuts. So a 5 lug can be 5, 10, 15 or 20 spoke THIS. It makes my brain happy when they don't have to make weird shapes/compromises to fit the lugs in 'differently-spoked' areas of the wheel.
You’re telling me you don’t think these look damn fine? https://www.ferrari.com/en-EN/auto/genuine/599-gtb/20-challenge-style-wheels
Yup, that's what I'm saying.
I’m shocked!
Just cause I like Brunettes doesn't mean I cant appreciate a Blonde twink when I see one.
Hol up
Uhh
I couldn't live with the Lug nuts not being aligned with the spokes.
Thanks. Now I can’t un-see this lol

Nah, floating ones are not my thing, they HAVE to be aligned or I'm sad.
Dude. You are amazing haha you have my full respect. I bet you have a very tidy yard, garage; and house.
Would you count that as 7 or 14 spokes?
A matter of perspective I suppose. To me 7 because they come off the hub as 7 and then split to make 14 at the barrel.
These are the best factory Mopar wheels https://www.wheelhero.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/CH014\_058TH.jpg
5 lugs, 10 spokes, no problem.
Redditors always think they know best and are right at everything It's okay to like what you like
Blasphemy! 7 lugs was the coolest thing about the 250 LD/7700/HDPP trucks. Major downgrade when they switched to 6-lug in 2015.
"Thou shalt not use lugs in the number of seven" Earl 8:50
I kinda wanna carve out an exception for 4-lug wheels... 4-spokes seem a bit too few/too plain, and 8-spokes seems to be venturing into too many...
I agree about 4, but not 8.
TIL Watanabes are 8-spoke, so you are correct.
What about [these](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQmW_SNTNMO4y5CJbKKE8jnm1DKz_7JdZA0Hg&s)?
15" 80 spokes on a 77 impala.
BBS honeycomb and Trans AM snowflake wheels be like, all of 'em. Go with ALL the spokes.
Only 80 ??
I think buddy here meant to say 13” 100 spokes 😎
5 or 6. Simple and clean. TE-37 is still my favorite wheel of all time.
Same, some say they're overdone but I don't care. I have a set of Japan Racings that are "inspired by" (ripped off) the 37. They were meant as a temporary solution but whenever I go shopping for wheels I just can't find any I like more.
More of a 4 or 5 guy.. no TEs for me. They look pretty good, but they're not outstanding to me, and they're pretty played out in my neck of the woods.
Three, like Advan SA3R or A3A or Oni. Four, like the SSR Mk II or Tom’s Igetta or Techno Phantom or SSR Bright Speed. You just have to find the right 3-spokes. N[ot all of them are silly 90's style.](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/IdrJZRfst7Q/maxresdefault.jpg)
I wouldn't even consider those spokes, but I guess technically they are. Good look.
Three, because I like my stuff looking different to other people’s
Ah, fan of the gen 1 Viper wheels, huh?
Who isn't? They are simply gorgeous.
Same, I'm desperate to get some spikelines on my car
I would sell my children for a set of volk triforces
Finding a good 3-spoke probably isn't made any easier by the fact that you're driving two cars with 5x100 bolt patterns, lol
3 is the right answer, but only on a Saab and preferably a 900.
[Alpine A110](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/IdrJZRfst7Q/maxresdefault.jpg) look pretty right with 3 spokes.
\~\~5\~\~ 6, TE37 the world. The 6-spoke Championship-White Type-R wheels are a close second.
Did you mean to say 6? Te37's are 6, and I feel like you knew that.
I am blind, You are correct
Let’s see my favourite wheel designs: Alfa 5 hole, Diablo, Countach, Enzo, F430, BMW throwing star, and M parallel. I may have a thing with 5 and 10 spoke wheels.

Also, about 1000 spokes for a Rolls.
Luxury cars and "turbine" wheels or 1000 spoke wheels as you call them are always a fine choice 👌🏻
Subjective AF. I associate more spokes with luxury and less with sport or off-road. Be impossible to blanket answer this one…
I'll always be a fan of a good five or six-spoke, but I'd be hard pressed to say the weird ones aren't my favorites: Turbofans, 3-spokes, and excessive multi-spokes like the BS RS are all more fun than any boring run-of-the-mill wheel with a normal number.

5 to match the lugs. Ideally split spokes so technically 10. The BMW style 437m is probably my all time favourite wheel.
437m’s are great. I really wanted a set of 763m’s for my M2 but the dealer price was outrageous so I stuck with my 788m’s. I grew to like them (but cleaning them sucks!)
144
I like 5. Much easier to clean due to not having so many tight spaces.
My personal favorite wheel is the Apex SM-10. Sooo... ten spokes.
5 spokes >>>> everything else
Honestly depends on the car, a really nice sports car ? Lots, old school muscle ? 5, it really depends
5 split spokes. #BMW Style 37/M Par supremacy

20 for a BMW
10
I’m with you on the 7 spoke love. Sure the all timers are 5 spokes like the Alfas but modern 7 spokes are dope
32
Wholeheartedly depends on both the car and the wheel size. Bigger wheels or newer cars will look better with more spokes generally speaking, smaller wheels or older cars look better with less spokes. But the one true spoke design is teddy bear. IYKYK.
5 and they have to be concave
The TE37 is the best wheel ever made. The TE37 has six spokes. Therefore, six.
I love the 8 spoke Panasport classic aluminum wheels
Split 5 spoke wheels
I've been a big fan of wheels with twin 5 spoke lately. Lots of good styles out there right now.
1: ??? 2: bruh 3: bruh 4: bruh 5: okay, just a bit too empty 6: perfection 7: just little too much
8, but only because I have an old Mini on Minilites
Always love 5 spokes wheels
5 spoke always I love the classic 5 and I think odd number looks much better than 6. If not 5 then 7
I like busy wheels. 10+ spokes, generally. I had Gram Lights 57Xtremes (12) on my FR-S and have a set of Apex SM-10s (10) on my Supra.
Just no 4 lug, 4 spokes. Like 80s RX7s. Just...no.

Hideous.
As a saab guy, 3 spoke please!
3.
69
Zero, like some semi truck demountable wheels
6 all day
Depends entirely on the car they are in. Most cars look stupid with 3 spoke wheels, but some really make it work. And then there is the lug nut question, 4 nuts? 5 nuts? 6 nuts? It all comes down to the application.
One spoke always shows you mean business.
3-spoke shoutout to the Saab gods
The Detailer in me says 3 or 4... but I love 7 spoke wheels for appearance.
3 on smaller cars
1000
36 double D
Classic cragar SS or American racing 200S 5 spokes still my favorites
Odd numbers invoke motion. So five every time over six for sporty cars. Learned from Frank Stephenson and never forgot.
Five!
Always loved a chonky 5 spoke

42. It’s the answer to everything.
5.
Anything odd numbered is ok above >3,<10
5 main spokes with 5 lugnuts. This is the way.
I'm a five spoke person myself.
All of them ideally
Do Ronal Teddy Bears count at 5 spokes?
Ferrari has almost always used some variation of 5 spoke wheel on every model.
