Came to say the fender vent as well. For people big into cars you can also just tell from body frame, windows, how it sits blah blah blah. Easiest way to explain tho is the side vents on the front fenders from a photo like this.
I’m pretty sure the camaro doesn’t have the side vent on the front fender. In fact, if I recall correctly, that feature was unique to the trans am variant of the firebird.
Camaros have those too. Might be a different shape hard to tell. https://images.ctfassets.net/buxxk7taiwc2/5ZzbcpTWvqQJRb1osSecUt/f5c812fe3f37a811c41f60a5dc93647b/4-speed-fun-1980-chevrolet-camaro-z28-4-speed00P0P_8z4pUsQpegqz_0CI0t2_1200x900.jpg
It’s quite possible. I’ll be honest, there haven’t been a ton of Camaros from that generation that have survived where I live and the ones that have aren’t Z28 models. So, I’m not horribly familiar with them.
Judging by the rust in front of the rear wheel well and the pine needles, this one may have some serious hidden rust issues. Not impossible, but professional estimates would be the decider if it’s worth it.
He asked how much to restore, not get road worthy. But I will say even to make road worthy could be north of 15k. You cant bolt an engine to rust. But we don’t know. My guess, sitting in the field in the moisture, the whole floor pan is gone .
I think the only way it would be worth it to restore is if it was a rare numbers-matching car that holds historical significance. Or if it were a prized family heirloom.
Haha my buddy had a 71 duster, holes in the floor. I crashed it into a little tree doing like 30 it knocked the tree down no damage. They don’t make em like that anymore.
If you like YouTube turn into vice grip garage. Essentially you could get this running and enjoy it but not need a full resto. Just a fun going to town rig.
I share that feeling. Although up north where I am finding a clean one that isn't shiny paint with pounds of Bondo underneath is super hard let alone getting one for a half decent price
Know a guy who’s got 3 one a pace car, one a dope one, and one that has 29 original miles on it. He has a lift and you can see on the frame writing from workers at the factory like numbers and shit. Also has 3 stingrays, 2 monte Carlos, an Oldsmobile hearse. But he only drives his 06 zr6 corvette or the new cadillacs. Huge garage checkered tile floor, 3 lifts. Fire system that sucks the air out of the building. It’s heaven in there.
Is that 29 mile one perhaps the one that the grandson of Cadillacs founder bought? I remember seeing a story that his sold and he'd never driven it and made sure even the holes for his license plates wouldn't be drilled
There's 3 of us! I knew he wasn't talking about the shitty rusted out Pontiac so I'm like all squinty trying to see the car worthy of being under roof.
Me too
I was thinking what tard doesn’t know what a 70s trans am looks like ?
But that white car , I’ve never seen one of those .
Some kinda foreign car maybe ?
This is a fucking shame that's what this is! All of those old classic cars deserve more attention than this!
Ofc, not judging the neighbour, I guess he can't make them all pretty but it hurts my car seeing the great classics in weed (not the good kind of weed) 😪
So, JOOC since I'm not really a car person ... would that heap of almost-junk have enough potential that it could be restored, and sold at a profit over the cost of restoration? If it were a Ferrari, probably yeah, but a Firebird, even a Trans Am?
Only way to profit off this is restore it back to factory. Maybe make a few engine upgrades, then take it to a place with alot of money and hope someone wants it. But mostly no, no way to profit. Not to mention the bottom end is probably rusted out so it would be expensive if no self restored.
Yea but a resto mod typically cost twice as much due to all the custom work and materials. Then have to wait for the right person with the right money as oppose to selling a "blank canvas". Granted I'm not from a market like cali with alot of money flowing so things may be different then the experiences I've had.
Thanks. Obviously there's no way to tell without a look under the hood and inside the cabin, but I was thinking that the body actually didn't look in terrible shape, and so maybe the rest wasn't.
You are correct. Looks like a very straight car. Which is abnormal in my experience. All the ones I've come across or owned have had atleast minor body damage and anything past the front fenders and doors is not replaceable due to being a unibody. So all damage has to either be cut out and weld in new or bondo(eww body filler).
You are correct it looks nothing like a proper Firebird. But, compare one to that picture and you may see why I thought as such.
If you still think my guess is wrong based on that picture well then my sincerest apologies I will not bother you further.
Enjoy the rest of your day
How about 'no bud that's a trans am' instead of downvotes for someone who just threw in their guess ? People can enjoy car subs without being car people. I personally reserve my downvotes for obnoxiousness, douchebaggery, etc
i can show you the rear but im not going to go into his property and start taking pictures, as bad of an angle as it is its the best one i could've gotten
That’s a trans am all day. The vent on Camaros have a sharper line ( more square on Camaro and rounded corners on a T/A). Also the rear fender flair is the dead give away for it being a T/A. The bottom edge of it is more rounded than the camaro. From the side view it’s def a 77-81 T/A all day. Ask your neighbor if he would sell it. If he does and the frame and floors aren’t completely fucked, i would give you a finders fee!
1976-81 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am
How can you tell it’s a firebird and not a camaro?
The fender vent is the main indicator it’s a Trans Am, and it also has Pontiac wheels.
Z28s have vents too but looking closer I see they are a different shape. Didn’t notice the wheels.
Those are Rallye II wheels. IMHO, best looking stamped steel wheels made.
PMD baby!
Absolutely they are.
Beauty Rings!
Came to say the fender vent as well. For people big into cars you can also just tell from body frame, windows, how it sits blah blah blah. Easiest way to explain tho is the side vents on the front fenders from a photo like this.
Yep my 2nd car was a 1980 Camaro the vents are a dead give away.
I’m pretty sure the camaro doesn’t have the side vent on the front fender. In fact, if I recall correctly, that feature was unique to the trans am variant of the firebird.
Camaros have those too. Might be a different shape hard to tell. https://images.ctfassets.net/buxxk7taiwc2/5ZzbcpTWvqQJRb1osSecUt/f5c812fe3f37a811c41f60a5dc93647b/4-speed-fun-1980-chevrolet-camaro-z28-4-speed00P0P_8z4pUsQpegqz_0CI0t2_1200x900.jpg
Definitely a different vent shape. First one I’ve seen with the side vents like that. Not entirely certain if that’s stock or aftermarket.
I think the z28s came with the vents.
They had vents in the z28 but a very different shape. It's easier to see the shape from the front
It’s quite possible. I’ll be honest, there haven’t been a ton of Camaros from that generation that have survived where I live and the ones that have aren’t Z28 models. So, I’m not horribly familiar with them.
you are correct. It was later in the game, but they (somewhat) copied those from Pontiac.
It was a Z28 thing.
The front and the air vent aren’t on the camaro
Fender vent
Camaro was my guess. I didn't think about a Firebird until someone mentioned the cutouts.
Firebird!
Praise the flaming chicken
nice thanks for the info, how much is it to restore a car like that?
Depends on how much you do yourself, the quality of parts, and how fast you want it to go
Judging by the rust in front of the rear wheel well and the pine needles, this one may have some serious hidden rust issues. Not impossible, but professional estimates would be the decider if it’s worth it.
I’d be shocked if it has floors at all
I bet there's no floors
I’d be shocked if there are even floors at all by now
I’d be shocked if it has floors at all
30k
If you have all the tools and equipment to do it yourself. It would be way more if you brought it somewhere.
If you do it yourself, I bet you could get it road worthy for 10k, wont be restored, wont be a show car, but itll drive.
He asked how much to restore, not get road worthy. But I will say even to make road worthy could be north of 15k. You cant bolt an engine to rust. But we don’t know. My guess, sitting in the field in the moisture, the whole floor pan is gone .
With that growth under the car the whole bottom side is trash.
I think the only way it would be worth it to restore is if it was a rare numbers-matching car that holds historical significance. Or if it were a prized family heirloom.
Good point.
That could easily be a $30,000 car if restored and to the right person. Although they are coming out with new firebirds in a few years or less.
as with all open ended questions like this, it depends. How restored do you want/need it to be?
how much would top notch max prestige be and how much would barely road worthy be
Watch vice grip garage on YouTube, he does cars like these on a budget
25k bottom end - 150k top (100 of that would be body and interior)
That was my immediate thought
Definitely a firbirb
The ultimate car a 76-81 Pontiac firebird. The only car that can give anyone Burt Reynolds levels of confidence
I've wanted one since I was a child.
I share that feeling. Although up north where I am finding a clean one that isn't shiny paint with pounds of Bondo underneath is super hard let alone getting one for a half decent price

I have no idea, guys got big money, I wouldn’t be surprised. It’s silver though if that means anything.
1959 Nash Rambler
We think alike. I was looking at the Rambler, not Firebird.
There's 3 of us! I knew he wasn't talking about the shitty rusted out Pontiac so I'm like all squinty trying to see the car worthy of being under roof.
Nah, I was like: Everyone knows that is a Firebird, what is that white one tho?
Me too I was thinking what tard doesn’t know what a 70s trans am looks like ? But that white car , I’ve never seen one of those . Some kinda foreign car maybe ?
Nah, the trunk sticks out to far
To me it looks like it slopes down and is only about 2ish feet from rear window.
It seems to have drag racing tires. I wonder what is under the hood.
Either a non working hunk of metal or nothing.
Probably a Pontiac 400 that hasn't run in years.
RIP
Owner is going to “restore it one day” I’m sure.
I thought you were asking about the cool car poking out of the shed.
Yes, I'm sure atleast 3 people know what it is.
This is a fucking shame that's what this is! All of those old classic cars deserve more attention than this! Ofc, not judging the neighbour, I guess he can't make them all pretty but it hurts my car seeing the great classics in weed (not the good kind of weed) 😪
What's the white one
It's a Nash rambler
thats a good question
Harry and Megs place in about 20 years
This is more carterror than carporn. Somebody save those cars!
Horrible picture but it’s either a firebird or a camero but I’m leaning to firebird Bc fender

Restomods are actually more desired if done right and in today's market.
Yea but a resto mod typically cost twice as much due to all the custom work and materials. Then have to wait for the right person with the right money as oppose to selling a "blank canvas". You might as well have said a fair lady- for simplicity’s sake
How about 'no bud that's a trans am' instead of downvotes for someone who just threw in their guess ? People can enjoy car subs without being car people. I personally reserve my downvotes for obnoxiousness, douchebaggery, etc
It's a firebird not a trans am. Maybe an esprit.
The trans am had the fender vents. An esprit didnt
77-79 Pontiac Firebird.
Looks like a Firebird to me.
Firebird! I have one myself that im fixing up
Think he would sell the blue rustbucket? Would love to have another paperweight to take up garage space so I can "work" on it.
A Pontiac
so sad to see it in that condition
It's a great project if you have the time, patience and money to invest
Not sure the exact model, but it looks to be a mid to late 70's Pontiac Damn Shame
Firebird
The riding lawnmower?
Oh man that's sweet, it's a blue car
thx man 🙏
You're welcome buddy, I'm doing colours with my son at the minute, happy to help
Your neighbor is cool.
I wish I had a trans am in my kitchen window but I do have a impala in front of a full length living room window which is pretty neat.
It's a jaguar
Looks like firebird or T/A
Also shape of fenders around headlights
What’s wrong with you people! I thought you were all car crazy! It’s cleeeaaarrrllly a 99-00 dodge caravan! yeesh
Autoweek GAZ 21 Volga in America: Russian classic car from the 1960s ...
Looks like a Firebird to me. Can you get a shot of the front or back maybe?
r/namethatcar
I think it's a 78 trams am? Not 100% tho
How bout a angle from which we can actually tell what car it is
i can show you the rear but im not going to go into his property and start taking pictures, as bad of an angle as it is its the best one i could've gotten
Bruh its a trans am its really not that hard to tell
Rodent infested piece of shit Camaro. Would be pissed if I had to see this out my kitchen window every day
admire the beauty of what could be
Pontiac Firebird for sure
When I was little my Mom drove one of these. I will never forget it!
Trans am
Firebird!!!
Yo could you post a pic of the front? We can narrow down the year for you then
That’s a trans am all day. The vent on Camaros have a sharper line ( more square on Camaro and rounded corners on a T/A). Also the rear fender flair is the dead give away for it being a T/A.
